BBU INTERNATIONAL FROM MADRID ARENA, SPAIN

BEFORE: Georgie Thompson is back on international duty which this time takes her all the way to the Madrid Arena in the Spanish capital city where local favorite - and "La Sexta" TV reporter - Sara Carbonero makes her official BBU debut tonight. The fight was agreed on short notice when Irish TV presenter Laura Whitmore - and fellow free agent - accepted the challenge to boost her stock following the St. Patrick's Day defeat to Christine Bleakley.

This is a curious match-up in several areas. Spain has lacked a proper BBU entry since Pilar Rubio didn't turn to be be anything good and was released from the Lioness Club after posting 1-7 record. A number of Italians and French have taken BBU by storm so it was strange to see the Spaniards struggle so much to provide at least one respectable fighter despite plenty of talent around. Sara Carbonero is truly one of those talented girls after rising to celebrity fame in 2010 when she was revealed as Real Madrid goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas' girlfriend (she's since married the lucky chap and resides in Porto where Iker earns his salary these days).

Of course being a WAG is a reason to be proud of in pure showbiz attitude, just look at Danielle Lineker, Frankie Bridge (nee Sandford), Yasmin Verheijen and Christine Bleakley as well as the now divorced Sylvie Meis (ex-van der Vaart). Even Katie Price is no stranger to courting the football wizards. Georgie thinks that Sara can easily challenge Christine Bleakley in the future, she's posted 117 lbs on the weigh-in but Laura Whitmore battled the Ulster brunette in catchweight rules and there's no reason to believe Sara wouldn't follow suit if Iker and Frank Lampard talked them into it!

Sara Carbonero wears a crimson red bikini set and black gloves. Dark brown hair in loose waves, tucked behind the ears. Laura Whitmore wears a light green bikini set and white gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a custom ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.

Round 1:
Plenty of Mediterranean heat early on as Sara splits the blonde's mitts and snaps her head back with a promising drive that indicates the Spanish girl wasn't really signed into BBU off the street. Laura's a relative newcomer herself but she clearly didn't expect such an aggressive start and by the time she gathers her thoughts, Carbonero pushes her into the ropes and whacks across the breadbasket to gain significant advantage. Whitmore can only clinch herself out of trouble but the brunette barks in her ear and shakes her off before blasting a left/right combo on the mouth and bending the Irish girl against the turnbuckle. Laura can't escape the subsequent flurry of punches to the body and ends the round behind a tight earmuff while the Madrid crowd chants Sara's name to leave Georgie Thompson rather impressed.

Round 2:
Whitmore squares up to the local favortite and jabs between her arms to finally secure a meaningful connection before a blistering left hook on the mouth resumes Carbonero's attacks and leads into a frantic leather exchange in the center of the ring. Laura tries to stay on top of her opponent but despite landing crisp shots on both cheeks, she succumbs to a nasty uppercut combo on the chin and wobbles on her heels just past the minute mark. Sara applies immediate pressure up the middle and clips the blonde's rack to back her into the ropes where she beats her for an overhand tangle and buries her hooks into the Irish presenter's temples that results in another desperate earmuff cover. However Carbonero steers her shots on the body and whacks Whitmore's ribcage into visible bruising before the bell which meets even louder response from the Madrid audience!

Round 3:
Sara acts anything but a rookie in the ring on her BBU debut and despite her best efforts, Laura simply can't match the ferocity nor accuracy of the jabbing attacks early in the third round. The Irish lass has to seek mid distance respite but the cheeky smile on the brunette's face indicates she won't lose her temper just yet and gives the haunted prey a brief moment to adjust her stance. That doesn't help Whitmore at all though and come the final minute the punishing jabs are finding the targets again to dump the blonde into more moaning disarray behind a high earmuff at the bell.

Round 4:
Laura finally cracks a big punch on Sara's face to open the fourth but she eats triple as much in response as the Spanish reporter leans on her body and harpoons the liver area to stagger the blonde in the center of the ring before blasting a vicious uppercut on the jaw. Whitmore's head snaps back and the Irish girl spins back to the ropes with eyes closed when Carbonero nails her with a left hook on the temple. The Madrid audience roars in support again when the brunette traps her aching foe on the ropes and ravages her midriff to sink Whitmore into more spasms. However the efforts to dismantle the high guard are futile and allthough Sara rocks the blonde back & forth on her feet, she's unable to score that desired knockdown before the bell and struts back to her corner talking to herself in visible frustration. Most of her shots in the final minute bounced off Laura's guard and the sheer ammount of production wasn't enough to deck the Irish presenter. The BBU debut isn't supposed to be THAT easy after all.

Round 5:
Sara ups the tempo of her attacks and traps the blonde in close range assault but gets picked off over the top as Whitmore leans on her and decides to respond in ultra aggressive fashion. The first minute is a hammer & tongs affair which leaves Carbonero's lips swollen and the blonde's left eye nursing a nasty swelling but the punishing nature of the exchange fails to secure the breakthrough and seems to underline Laura's above par resistance & durability. Even Carbonero accepts the clinching respite now but gets backed into the ropes in the final minute and Whitmore rallies back into cleaning out her breadbasket which silences the Madrid crowd at the bell. Both women glare down at each other before a quick bump-off forces the ref to step in and prevent any unneccessary antics but according to Georgie Thompson, there's still plenty of brutal action left in this bout!

Round 6:
Carbonero works around the blonde's swollen eye early and hopes to shut it down completely but leaves a lot of space downstairs for Whitmore to pounce on and when the Spanish lass gets belted on the liver area she drops the head hunting ideas and bends forward into a quick uppercut on the jaw that makes her moan and wobbles her back to the ropes. Laura leaps after her with a jabbing flurry and shatters the guard to snap the brunette's head back & forth and leave her trapped on the ropes under heavy Irish onslaught. The crowd urges their fav to fight back but the ammount of strikes overwhelms the brunette's resilience and when Whitmore lands another one-two on the mouth SARA TAKES A KNEE which is the only way to secure a breathing respite... Georgie Thompson applauds the blonde's comeback but the Madrid audience begins to whistle amid a wilting support... Still, Carbonero'e eyes are filled with hatred and she whispers to herself in native tongue again to fend off the knockdown buzz... the count reaches eight and the brunette's up on her feet again but the clock expires before Laura can resume her quest for glory.

Round 7:
Laura believes she's gained the mental advantage over her foe but Sara refuses to buckle in wake of that knockdown and squares up to the blonde in the center of the ring which triggers another mammoth leather exchange. Georgie Thompson is truly impressed by this high-octane bout and the Madrid Arena roars in support when Whitmore's left eye begins to close down for good as Sara finally hooks up with her intended target. She drills the blonde into aching struggle and pummels her back to the ropes with a much more effective head hunting display whereas Laura fails to land the body shots she used to dominate the Spanish girl before. It's a quick turnaround compared to the seventh with the Irish presenter trapped on the ropes and unable to tame the local onslaught; Sara gets all vocal in her efforts to deck the blonde but as she snaps her head back & forth, the most significant damage includes Laura's eye shutting down for good and trembling the Irish lass into loud spasms as she realizes her opponent just won't go away despite the knockdown and now assumes a dominant position again. Bell saves Laura from more misery but she's clearly bothered by the lack of vision in the left eye. Who can blame her?

Round 8:
Sara riffles a nasty hook on the wounded eye and beats Laura for a follow up shot on the ear that makes the blonde gurgle into more spasms... The proud  Irish girl lacks a proper approach now that she doesn't clearly see her opponent's moves from the right and the brunette spikes her with a series of jabs to back the aching blonde into the turnbuckle where she ignores the high guard and bursts into Whitmore's solar plexus... this sinks Laura on her knees and drops her guard too - a heavy uppercut slams her on the chin moments later and a left handed follow up crashes into the liver TO SEND WHITMORE SLIDING DOWN ON HER LEFT SIDE with a loud yelp... the Madrid Arena errupts in joy and Sara pumps herself up with more screams too... and Laura's badly hurt by that liver shot... she hugs the aching area and barely rolls onto all fours at six before a dramatic launch manages to freeze the count at nine... ref gives her a long look in the eye and there's visible pain in them but apparently the locals truly want to see a juicy knockout on Carbonero's debut... Laura is denied the stoppage but she's got nothing left for a flurry of jabs that lifts her on her toes and has Sara rearranging her face in the corner.... Ugh! That's the Mediterranean spirit or what? Georgie Thompson gives up the Irish hopes and can only watch in horror as Sara turns the blonde's face into a pulp.... Whitmore is knocked out of her senses half way through the round and will need to consult her surgeon as SHE SLIDES DOWN ON HER KNEES AGAIN - simply unable to embrace the Spanish fury anymore. She remains face down at Carbonero's feet and of course the ref spares everyone the count and raises the brunette's hand in the air to confirm the result. Brutal KO8 Sara Carbonero!!!

AFTER: That was an extremely enjoyable fight which turned outright gruesome come the last couple of rounds when Sara simply wrecked Laura's face and send a huge message to the rest of the BBU bantamweight division. This is the classic Latin character on it's finest display according to Georgie Thompson and if the 32 year old TV presenter gains more experience under her belt, she will become the most feared member of the international media! The likes of Christine Bleakley and Rachel Riley might well start to make some room on the TV personality pound-for-pound podium and even Georgie must admit that despite her pre-fight support of the fallen Irish colleague.

As the fiesta atmosphere spreads around the Madrid Arena and leads Sara into a round of interviews with the local media - for once she's on the other side of the mic - Georgie herself makes her way to the ring and helps the battered Whitmore to regain her whereabouts. Ouch! That left eye will remain swollen shut for the next few hours and the blonde is fortunate enough she didn't end up with some fractured bones in her face! Georgie places an ice pack around Laura's eye and escorts her back to the locker room, she passes by the obviously overjoyed Carbonero who briefly interrupts her interviews and tells Georgie that is was a real pleasure to join the BBU ranks. "I'm sure it was, dear!", Georgie ignores the cheeky wink from the brunette and promises to ask for a raise from the BBU TV front office really soon while finally hauling a semi-dazed Whitmore off to the locker room. Those international bouts are all bordering on classic grudge scenario these days and Georgie wonders if Sara's performance was even more brutal than Elisabetta Gregoraci's arrival at the start of the year?

Final result: Sara Carbonero def. Laura Whitmore KO8.
