Before: 5'8" of pure, dynamic, energy, Sharon "Malice" Leal may be a new name in the FCBA (one previous bout: Lis Shue, 2003) but for the past 16 months, the 38 y/o NY showbiz vet has been hitting the gym prepping for her role in CW's hit cheerleader drama, "Hellcats" where Ms. Leal plays head Hellcat and coach Vanessa Lodge. Sharon got her 'fight genes' from her parents: a Filipina mom and African-American military father, and honed that talent in New York soaps (Guiding Light) as well as apartment boxing and wrestling bouts. Before the FCBA, Sharon 'made her bones' beating well-known New York fighters like Jennifer Lopez, Bridget Moynihan, Khandi Alexander (CSI:Miami) plus Hollywooders such as Lake Bell, Deborah Woll (True Blood), Kate Walsh (Private Practice) and Lisa Edelstein (House) as well as Broadway and Hollywood singers, dancers and bit players whose names aren't well known outside the fight community (like another 'Hellcats' cast member: Heather 'Leather' Hemmens).

Sharon's 'Hellcats' co-star, Aly Michalka, credits Leal with her own development as a boxer saying, "She taught me so much in our sparring sessions. I'm just glad she's finally getting a chance to show her stuff in the FCBA."

Theron, noted for giving lesser known fighters exposure, never-the-less says she's, "...intent on winning this fight. I want to give Sharon a showcase, but not a victory," she says with a winks at her favorite Tractorpull reporter. "Not many people know her, and I haven't seen any tape of her, but I've talked to people who fought her or have seen her in action, and they've all been impressed. So I won't be taking her lightly. She's gotten a big break with her TV show and I want everyone with an interest to get a look at her. There's too many young fighters who never get the opportunity to show themselves and Sharon was one of those who got sidetracked early in her career. It's time to make that right."

Theron in her favorite fawn colour bikini, hair loose, feet bare. Leal in teal one-piece with cut-outs at the sides, high at the hips and low in back; hair in saucy ponytail; black trainers. White gloves for both women.

During R1: Leal springing nimbly from her corner; forgoing the usual 'feeling out' to start throwing leather; surprising Theron with the handspeed of her combinations. Leal setting down on her punches, crisply ripping hooks and rights to the body from in close as she tattoo's Theron's torso up one side and down the other. Charlize content to let Leal spend herself on the attack, backstepping in good order to put her butt in the ropes; covering up behind a defensive shell as Leal wallops away to her heart's content. Closing seconds, Theron coming off the ropes with a flourish; digging to the older brunette's body with both hands. Bell: Women exchange a 'hi-five' glove slap acknowledging the other as they pass on their way to their stools.

R2: More of the same. Similar to the first; Leal out-speeding Charlize, touching the 'Golden Goddess' up early and often. Leal spitting out a good, sound, solid, jab; flashing good, quick-mitted, combinations. Closed stance for Leal; her left shoulder toward Theron, her left hand at her hip, then striking cobra-like from there with the double hook (body-body or body-head). Her right hand held at her right breast, cocked. When she throws, the right is either straight into Charlize's left breast or curls in under her left elbow. Leal's head looks exposed, but constantly ducking, dipping and bobbing proves an effective defense in itself and she's only being lightly touched as Theron concentrates on Sharon's 38 y/o body this round.

R3: Theron gets tall this round; using her height edge as she unleashes her superior jab and uses it to manage Leal's speed. Leal finding it hard to penetrate now; being forced to bob and weave outside CT's poke making her own jab equally ineffective. Tactical round for Theron; frustrating one for Leal as Charlize's long legs and solid jab make a lethal combination - one that Leal has no answer for. When Sharon tries to force the action inside, she's speared by Theron's jab and the times she does manage to penetrate, Charlize's thudding right plays havoc with Leal's leftside ribs.

R4: Both girls having moments: Leal when she can get inside and get off; Theron when she get her jab on Leal, spread her out and line her up for deadly right crosses. Leal gritting her teeth, accepting the punishment to get inside Theron's jab, then setting up to pound away at the body with short, chopping, lefts and rights. It's hard work because Charlize's right is tearing her up and Leal finds herself continually being forced to rotate to her right, away from Theron's right - but right into her left hook! Late second/early third minute are Leal's best moments as she hurts Theron to the body with a tattooing attack to her jugs! Theron recoiling breathlessly in wide-eyed jugg shock at this effrontery! Theron quickly gathers herself and drives Leal back across the ring with criss-crossing blows to her own 'frontage' to quickly restore nature's balance.

R5: Looking good for Leal early as she thinks she's found the key and charges back inside where she pounds Theron's tummy and tit...then suddenly eats a flush right cross and starts stepping in fence post holes! Charlize's follow up is a sweet little double jab to set up a straight stab-and-retract right to Leal's forehead that snaps her head back sharply and Leal goes baby-stepping backward; her eyes glassy; hands loose. Theron hops forward in her stance - then yo-yo's the jab again upstairs to keep her girl on her heels. Suddenly, Charlize dives in and down, POUNDING the straight right into the pit of Leal's stomach with a big splashy SPLAT! Leal, already moving backward, goes down on her butt, rolls onto her back with her knees drawn up; arms across her mid-section hugging her ravaged body; rocking side-to-side and gasping with gutshot agony. Sharon Leal struggles to rise but can barely get to all fours before the count passes her by. KO5 Charlize Theron with a rare one-shot KO to the body - one of the hardest Theron body punches ever seen in all her years in the FCBA! Several potential future opponents at ringside watch slack-jawed; faces pale at the thought of what that must have felt like!

After: Charlize helping Sharon to her corner, arm around her waist; heads together as the big blonde commiserates with her defeated opponent. There's none of the usual rancor or hard feelings from either fighter in the aftermath of this bout; no stable pride at stake; no bitter prefight sniping to remember or regret. Just two veteran fighters having gone out and done their jobs.
Postfight, Leal expresses her gratitude for Theron giving her the opportunity "when she didn't have to and had nothing to gain. She's a class act; remembers what it was like to be a struggling actress and isn't afraid to give a girl a chance to show what she can do. Who knows, maybe somebody out there will think I did well enough to get another shot - I know that's what Aly and I had talked about when Charlize called and offered me this fight. I've got my fingers crossed and my cell is turned on if anyone's trying to call with an offer!"
Charlize properly deferential toward an opponent some experts thought didn't belong in the same ring with her. "She's a tough, gritty, veteran fighter and just because she doesn't have a half dozen movie blockbusters on her resume doesn't mean she can't fight. I was happy to hear that she's gotten several movie offers since her TV show took off and it's about time. She's been around for far too long without getting the chance she so richly deserves. You all saw how she took the fight to me; and I'm bigger than most of the women she'd normally be fighting. I just wish we had room at The Academy, because I know that if she caught on at a stable, Sharon has what it takes to quickly fight her way into the top ten. From there? Who knows!
