(Girls Friday vs DownUnder boxing)

Intro:
Two welterweights looking to make a mark in a division which is showing sparks forming that many pundits are hoping may flicker into something for the much maligned division of talented women.
Michelle Ryan was a woman on a mission to prove all the people who believe her to be a nobody, who wasted her potential on what seemed to be career ending roles like the Bionic woman.
After beating her hated rival Rebecca Romijn in a 5 rounds, she'd challenged any welterweight with the guts to step up and fight her to do it.
Abbie Cornish, who had one fight at welterweight, was herself looking to get her boxing career noticed as her film roles seemed to be growing slowly.
So a possible permanent move to welterweight could help her out in getting noticed in what she felt was a division with a clear open spots of advancement.

At their training camps, Michelle Ryan said to the media "while this fight isn't being deemed a PPV bout, I still see Abbie as being a good named fight for me"
After being asked her feelings about the Australian, she replied "look, Me and her won't enter the ring friends and we won't end the fight friends, she has some of my respect for wanting to fight me but it's purely business and I hope she can bring the fight to me so I can prove I'm no push over"
Abbie in her open training session said to the media "This is a big chance for me as if you haven't noticed, us big girls don't get many calls, we get a spot and if you fall, it's hard to get it back"
Asked about Michelle, she replies "she's a loud mouth but she isn't stupid, boxing allows her to show her talents off and I know she can fight but can she box is the big question, we'll see but I pride myself on being tough so if it gets vicious, I'll take it and give it back tenfold"

Fight time on Miami beach, bleachers set up and ring posts are set into the beach itself so normal boxing conditions somewhat go out the window.
Michelle is the first into the ring, she has a black ringlet bikini on with matching black gloves as her hair is tied into a ponytail.
Taryn Terrell is with her wearing her gold bikini that she normally wears for JMD fights.
Out comes Abbie, she's wearing a yellow bikini and gloves as she completes the look with her own ponytail.
With her is Nikki Visser, she's as much competition for looks as her younger cohorts around her in the ring in a purple bikini.
Nikki and Taryn notice each other and smile as they chat politely while their girls just silently stare at each other.
Then they go nose to nose as they try to psyche each other out, no nasty words exchanged as this is purely about showing who deserves to get the bigger fights next and who needs to continue fighting at this level.
After the final instructions are read out, both touch each others gloves with a not so gentle touch as neither loses that stare off the other.
Getting gumshields in, the fighters are ready for ten rounds of Welterweight action that starts now.

Round 1:
"Ding" out come the fighters as Abbie starts off slightly the quicker as she tries to make her mark early, Michelle though seems ready for her as they trade jabs as they kick up sand circling each other.
Abbie fires the first real combo of the fight early as she presses forward with a jab that finds chin and a right hook that just skims off the gloves of the English woman.
Michelle nods at her opponent as they plant their feet in the sand to exchange piercing jabs and straights, the shots connect with Abbie looking to be taking the worst of it due to her growing into the weight, while Michelle has fought at welterweight these past few years.
Getting onto her bike, Abbie uses her speed to create space so she can outbox Ryan, her stinging jab is keeping the control of the round in her favour with her footwork in the sand being an added bonus.
The round ends with both women jogging back to their corners looking relaxed, nothing the others shown them has them worried.

Round 2:
Again Abbie starts the round with her jab but she's using it to set up that damaging right hook she hopes can be the weapon to end this fight.
But Michelle has Taryn telling her to keep her left hand high to stop that and she's lands a hard straight to the body of the Aussie, whose face curls up in pain and starts retreating for space again.
This time though the brunette gives chase and pounds her blonde opponent to the ropes.
Not rushing her punches, Michelle uses her jab to pin Abbie to the ropes, her right hand is being used to pierce any part of her opponent that's not covered up by her guard.
Abbie manages to clinch up but she's feeling the difference in being a lightweight whose moved up to welterweight in the past year and someone who made that move years OK.
The ref shouts "break!" Hesitantly Abbie let's Michelle go, who in turn has her fists up in case of any sneak attack.
The blonde gets off the ropes as she goes back to flicking that jab out and Michelle looking to find a way through again.
Michelle goes back to the body and Abbie is looking slightly concerned now as her trainer Nikki is shouting for her to calm down and stick to the game plan.
Cornish does seem to get herself back into her zone as she parries a few jabs to counter punch with her own till the bell rings.

Round 3:
Abbie comes out with a game plan to outwork Michelle as she almost seems to be dancing around Michelle with her fists doing her talking.
Michelle seems to planting her feet ready to do some real damage but she hasn't hurt the blonde enough to be able to tee off yet and Taryn let's her know by shouting "get your ass in gear!"
The blonde is tagging the brunette on her nose and it looks sore as Michelle shakes her head and keeps her guard tight up top to cover said nose.
Sticking to the head, Abbie adds a hook attack that is knocking Michelle back a step or two to the crowds delight.
Michelle clinches up with Abbie, this leads to the two strong women shoving each other body to body as sweat from the blistering heat drips off their bodies.
Getting pulled apart, Abbie comes forward with a hard jab again but gets caught with a hook to her left cheek that makes her stumble.
As Ryan charges to attack, Cornish grabs her to stop any assault as they again wrestle body to body as their noses touch, they seem desperate to prove whose stronger at this stage.
Again being pulled apart, Abbie keeps her cool and keeps swiping at Michelle with that jab as she moves around her side to side.
The English woman just can't keep up with her at this stage and it leads to her looking dejected when the bell rings after she had a good last round before.

Round 4:
Control of the fight certainly seems in Abbie's hands as she keeps herself moving well against Michelle who is trying to counter punch.
Swelling can be seen forming on each cheek of Michelle as she takes another barrage of jabs and straights off the dazzling Aussie.
Another hard body shot from Ryan though seems to force her back a step as she can be heard gasping and the English rose takes the fight to her opponent.
Cracking punches are exchanged as they seek to destroy each other in this hot in more ways than one showdown, the crowd are cheering both on to get at the other.
Abbie forces the clinch as both throw blows to the others kidneys in a war of attrition, knowing they need to ware each other out isn't going to be an easy task when you consider how fit and tough these two are.
The ref gets them apart as Abbie comes forward with another piercing straight to Michelle's face, knocking sweat into the air.
Before Michelle cracks another shot to her body as both women grimace from the brutal shots being exchanged and they want this so badly.
Michelle comes strong at the end of the round as she is able to land more powerful shots as Abbie seems to have misjudged the pace under these conditions and is slowing down.
The bell rings with both standing face to face exchanging a few words before returning to their corners to get patched up.

Round 5:
The momentum shifts early as the reddening body of Abbie's takes another hard hook across it and off to the ropes she goes.
Michelle moves forward but isn't rushing in case she gets caught with a counter punch in a moment of stupidity.
Jabbing Abbie on the ropes, she laces hooks around the guard, targeting that body as she can see Abbie starting to slump slightly.
The Aussie isn't done as she fires shots to try and force her way off the ropes but Michelle seems happy to take a few to pound away her own punches.
It forces Abbie to hold again to force the ref to step in to break them up, which he does but not before Michelle presses Cornish against the top rope with her forehead against the blondes.
Tempers flare as Abbie shoves back with her head and both women swear at each other.
As they separate, they square up on the sand and exchange brutal quick hands that leave both a little shaken before they circle a bit.
Abbie shoves her way into Michelle as she let's her temper control her and they exchange body shots that seem like they should be coming out the back of the other.
The bell rings with both women slightly leaning on each other while whispering insults to each other till the ref physical separates them.

Round 6:
Both look tired as they still have some spring in their step but are no speed racers in this ring as the heat and the sand take its toll.
Banging punches into each other, both women are nearly urging the other to try and hit harder as they continue their verbal battle between their physical one.
Michelle lands a hard body punch that rattles Abbie early in the round as the Aussie is heard catching her breath from it.
Pounding body punch after punch, Michelle is forcing Abbie towards a corner as the blonde tries to clinch up again.
But a hard left jab and right hook push her back and the crowd are sensing that something major is happening.
Abbie is fighting with her all but her body isn't reacting as well as it did in the early rounds.
One minute to survive the round and she's doing everything to do that, the problem is Michelle is not stopping in her own assault and keeps pressing forward in these exchanges.
A piercing straight connects right to the liver area of a wild swinging Abbie and down goes the Aussie in pain holding her stomach area.
The ref begins his count but Abbie is in too much pain to even think about getting up as she rolls to her back and tears form in her eyes.
Finishing the 10 count, the ref waves the fight off to the joy of Michelle and Taryn Terrell.

Winner: Michelle Ryan KO Round 6

After:
Michelle climbs the bottom rope in her corner and thumps her chest as she shouts "whose next!" To the cheering crowd.
Before she climbs down and as she calms down, she goes to check on Abbie as Taryn and Nikki are already over by her chatting about the fight and the condition of Abbie.
Helping her up to show sportsmanship, Michelle says "thanks for the fight Abbie, you certainly gave me one"
As the two women share a smile and Michelle helps Abbie to do not a walk of shame but a lap for both to be clapped for coming to Miami to fight.
Abbie gingerly claps Michelle with her gloves still on as an interviewer comes in to talk to Michelle.
"Hard fought battle their Michelle, did you worry at any point that the fight was going to end badly for you?" The interviewer asks.
Replying, Michelle says "let me start by saying Abbie is a warrior and I want to thank her for taking up my challenge for any welterweight to fight me"
Adding "fight wise, she certainly is quick and that had me a little shaken early but once I slowed her down, it was my fight to lose"
"Do you see Abbie having a bright future in the welterweight division?" Asks the interviewer as Michelle nods.
Then she says "honestly yes, I started as a lightweight and they'll be days where she will wake up and think is it the right choice and it's up to her to see it through, when she gets used to this weight fully, I'd happily fight her again to see where we both are"
"Finally, what's next for you?" Is the final question posed to Michelle who smiles and pretends to yawn.
She answers "well a shower and a nap first unless a hunk wants a crack at me" she winks before laughing.
After a moment she continues "seriously, it's back to England for me for a small rest then I'm back on sparring duties with Joan Smalls, the future BBU welterweight champ; but I can continue to come here if the fights show up, so again if any welterweights want to prove they can do more then bytch, find me and we can see about that"
Michelle climbs out the ring to a cheer as Taryn gives her a piggyback to rest her legs as they go back to the hotel for showers and partying in the bar.
