Rachael Leigh Cook vs Rachel Bilson
(Words: ABC / Results: Lookout!)

Pre-fight:
This battle of the Rachaels marks the second name-sake war that ABC’s Rachael Leigh Cook has entered in recent times, having beaten Rachel Stevens with a round 6 KO late last year.

Rachael Leigh Cook is 5-0 since signing with Alpha Boxing Club last November. Prior to that she had not won since 2011, and it has been an incredible turn of form that the veteran marks down to training with the likes of Jennifer Connelly and Alyssa Milano, as well as simply maturing as a fighter. “It feels like it’s finally all come together,” Cook smiles. “For years I struggled to put sense into my fights, but all of a sudden things have just clicked. The stable has been a huge part of that, and I’m not letting them down. I’m going 6-0 tonight and I’m taking this to the top!”

Bilson enters the ring for just the second time this year after a loss to Cheryl Cole, and her only fight in 2015 was a loss to Anna Kendrick. Time will tell whether a little ring rust is still present, but Bilson assures all that she has every reason to be the preferred fighter entering this bout. “I’m ranked higher than her for a reason. Just because she’s part of some fancy stable now, doesn’t magically make her better than me. I can, and will, take her down.”

Both combatants come out to the approving crowd wearing tight bikinis as they stroll down the beach to the ring. The August PPV is always a popular one, and Cook and Bilson show why as they limber up in their eye-drawing attire.

Round 1:
Rachael Leigh Cook out of the gates quickly and she wastes no time taking it to Bilson, flashing the jabs and finding pretty Bilson face by surprise with pace. Bilson is on the back foot early and RLC is popping away briskly, taking face and temple as Bilson tries to cover and move. Cook is quick though, and she is right on top of her in this first round, looking very fresh and well-conditioned. It’s a complete 180 in tactics from Cook’s last outing, but trainer Alyssa Milano has obviously instructed her to prevent Bilson from gaining any confidence boosters early and that is exactly what Cook is doing. A few shots of leather to the temples and a cheeky jab right on her nose has Bilson shuffling out of harm’s way with haste, showing no signs whatsoever of damaging Cook in this first round.

After one, Cook takes a seat comfortably while confidently smirking across at Bilson. She has been claiming all year that she’s ready for a title run, and she seems to wholeheartedly believe Bilson is just another quick speedbump on her way to certain victory. Bilson looks a little more focused on the task at hand, although that does involve getting her bleeding nose sorted out already.

Round 2:
Bilson needing a change of strategies between rounds and she’s done it with aplomb, meeting a confidence-brimming Cook head-on right off the blocks and the two engage in a rapid exchange of leather to tight midriffs until Bilson smacks a fist up at Cook’s left eye, stinging her. Flinching Cook takes a solid barrage to abs and she is driven back into the ropes by Bilson who has a wide grin now, obviously relieved to have turned her first round fortunes back to her favour.

Cook looking a little surprised and certainly less cocky now as Bilson searches for that confidence booster, continuing to light up Cook’s midriff and turn those tight abs a stinging red. Cook is huffing and touching meekly at abs as she slowly climbs onto her stool after the second, and Bilson slips to her corner looking far happier with herself after that round.

Round 3:
Bilson and Cook still looking like they have a lot to give as we enter the third, and that’s not a bad sign for Bilson who only has one fight to her name in the last year. She rushes back in now with some killer confidence after that second round, but Cook is too wise and successfully stifles the attack, her guard working tightly and her footwork burning some serious rubber. The offense from Bilson is coming fast and furious, but the defence from Cook is impressively sharp. Cook’s wiley experience matching Bilson’s dogged determination to put herself back in the title hunt, and they largely stuff each other’s attempts of anything for the entire three minutes. As the round nears to a close, there isn’t much of anything separating the two fighters, and it’s anybody’s guess as to who took that round.

Round 4:
Bilson is determined to get through Cook’s guard and she hammers away once more, this time managing to clip Cook’s left ear and it rattles her a little. Bilson slips a hook under the guard and into fit tummy, bending Cook before rising an uppercut into hanging jug, slamming the contents of Cook’s right bikini cup against her chest and getting a pained yelp from her before retreat is forced. Cook staggers back towards the ropes and Bilson pursues eagerly. Cook is still rubbing that right jug, a pained look on her face, and Bilson finds room to whack a left cross through Cook’s right cheek, staggering her into the ropes now. Cook bounces against them and Bilson flies in with unbridled lefts and rights. Cook sways left to avoid a wild straight, then gets the guard in front of a dangerous hook, and hastily manages to shuffle along the ropes to her left and out of immediate danger. It was a close call for Cook, but she’s given herself half a chance here, and it’s all the veteran needs to turn things slightly back in her favour, popping a retreating jab into Bilson’s face, followed by a firm hook to ribs, now forcing Bilson to rethink her positioning.

Bilson backs off and resets and Cook gladly takes the opportunity to readjust her bikini top with a grimace and ready her guard once more as Bilson makes her way back in. Bilson pops testing jabs, trying to work her way inside, and Cook blocks solidly and keeps her feet shuffling, maintaining enough distance to have the upper hand on defence, able to react to whatever Bilson attempts. That is, until Bilson fakes a left jab and suddenly rushes, basically crashing into Cook and driving them both into the ropes. Cook yelps as Bilson’s chest collides with her own and Bilson pops some short, sharp shots into her ribs from close range, bringing a look of pain over Cook’s pretty features.

The round comes to and end with Bilson taking an upper hand and Cook grimacing and groaning her way into the ABC corner, rubbing at ribs and still trying to fix her bikini top, a little shaken. Bilson looks a little tired, but she’s right with Cook and she knows it. She takes a seat on her stool, staring with focus and intent across the ring at her opponent, clearly thinking over strategy, her mind solely on getting the win over the in-form boxer.

Round 5:
Cook looks a little upset as she comes out of her corner for the fifth, and if looks could kill, we’d be looking at an early round five KO. But they can’t, so Cook elects to let her fists do the talking for her and blasts an early, unexpected right straight into Bilson’s left bikini cup, startling and obviously hurting the brunette. Bilson is stopped right in her tracks, jaw dropping as her left breast shakes under duress, and Cook throws a left cross straight through open jawline, rocking Bilson sideways! Bilson is staggering about, trying to work out what just happened as Cook pursues and jabs leather into face, though Bilson is able to get the guard up and block most of what is coming. This just makes Cook drive some low hooks into taut tummy and Bilson is shaking on her stems now as Cook works the body over. Ribs and tummy turning red and Bilson is going to want to fight back or Cook is going to beat her into the ground.

Eventually Bilson’s guard finds a hook, then another, and she has the presence of mind for a moment to whack one of her own gloves up at Cook, remembering she’s allowed to hit back. The leather stings Cook’s right cheek and gives Bilson half a chance to pop some more jabs at head height, half wanting to hurt her and half wanting to slow her from landing punches. The two manage to peel apart and reset again, and Cook is glaring at Bilson still, while Bilson is too busy trying to gather herself and get back a little bit of control.

Bilson attempts to flash forward and regain the upper hand, but even when the leather lands on Cook’s chin, Cook simply replies with a bigger overhand that bangs on Bilson’s temple and has her seeing stars. It doesn’t look great for Bilson, but she is saved by the bell and she’ll have a chance to work things out in the break.

Cook takes her seat this time looking a little less pained, and certainly more focused. She’s fighting like she has something to prove now, and perhaps nobody warned Bilson about bringing out that side of the ABC firecracker.

Round 6:
As we begin the sixth round, Bilson is eager to get some rhythm going again, and she leaps in, hunting for Cook midriff. She finds it, but Cook takes the blow and lurches forward into a big straight left that crashes through Bilson’s jawline and knocks her silly!

Bilson is staggering backwards, arms flailing, and Cook pounces, smacking a right up at Bilson’s nose, swelling it, then a left into her eye, then a right under chin, a left into eye again, and a big right uppercut under the jaw that has Bilson careening straight onto her back! Rachel Bilson is down and it’s lights out for the pretty brunette.

Cook steps back, grinning as she lets the referee get on with his count, but we all know it’s not necessary as Bilson is not stirring an inch, laying there on her back, eyes closed. The count of course reaches ten in due time, and Rachael Leigh Cook wins, KO6!

Post-fight:
Rachael Leigh Cook is ecstatic as she dances in her corner, climbing the turnbuckle and waving to fans in the audience. Bilson in contrast is slowly and gently brought around to consciousness, looking a little disoriented and certainly pained.

“I told everyone, I’m ready to be a contender,” Cook says matter-of-factly. “My time is now, and I’m not going to waste it. Bilson is ranked some 26 places higher than me and I floored her. I’m stepping up baby, and I want that title. I’m coming for it, and nobody is gonna stop me!”

“I did okay,” manages a groggy Bilson. “I still feel a little rusty, but I’m starting to book fights again and I know that if I keep at it I’ll be beating that smug grin off of Cook’s face with no problems.”
