Bridget Regan versus Katrina Law

(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)

BEFORE:

It doesn't get much better than this in the welter division. Regan, one of the division's super elite, against Law, who, while she doesn't always get mentioned in that category, perhaps should. After all, she's collected scalps including Peregrym, Biel, Loken, Landry, Patton, Henstridge, Moore, and Bloodgood. And, oh yes, Cassidy Freeman. Twice. One scalp Katrina hasn't collected, however, belongs to Regan, who stopped her in two rounds in their only meeting. Rectify that tonight, and Law might be near the top of the dance card of the winner of the Upton/Hadid fight. And, that's just what she plans to do. "She got me the last time," Katrina admits. "I'd been fighting less than a year and made a mistake. That won't happen tonight."

"I told her then," says Regan with a nod, "That she was going to be one of the top welters in the FCBA. And, I was right. Unfortunately for Katrina, she's getting in with THE top welter tonight."

ROUND ONE:
The last time, the inexperienced Law came out smoking, surprising her redheaded opponent and getting her in trouble early. This time, the experienced Law...comes out SMOKING, surprising her redheaded opponent an getting her in early trouble! Law all OVER Regan right off the bell, sending in fire from everywhere, forcing Bridget to the defensive. Regan backing and covering, getting jarred by hard right hands and DOWN GOES BRIDGET! What the...? Less than a minute in and Regan is dropped to her back by a blistering right hand! Law striding to a neutral corner as if this is exactly what she expected. And, maybe it was. Regan down past six, then rolling to hands and knees at seven. She beats it, but she's clearly worse for the wear. Referee thinks about stopping it during the mandatory, but eventually waives Katrina forward. Law absolutely POUNDING Regan now. Bridget pinned to the ropes and abused for two full minutes as Law tries to finish. What keeps the ref from stopping it is anyone's guess. But, he doesn't. At the bell, Regan's barely standing, but she is. But, Law's up 10-8.

ROUND TWO:

Clean up, Katrina. Law in charge from the first second to the last. Regan with very little in the way of legs. She can only stand and take a beating, and that's exactly what the redhead does. It seems like she could go at any minute, and Law's sitting down on everything she throws in an effort to make that happen, but, there's a reason Bridget Regan is a three-time welterweight champion. Big Red is nothing if not tough, nothing if not sturdy. She takes everything Law can throw, and stays afloat. Oh, there are fire parties everywhere, quenching flames and trying to repair damage. She's taking water. She's listing a bit. She's not firing her own guns very much. But, she will not sink. She stays afloat despite shell after shell finding the mark. And, by the time the round ends, the brunette can only shake her head as she walks back to the corner. She's won the round wide and leads 20-17, but...

ROUND THREE:
Law all over Regan again. This can't go on much longer. Katrina totally dominating things. Regan's face puffy, nose bleeding. She's in retreat, as she has been since the opening minute. Bazz corner shouting instructions, trying to get their girl going, but it's not happening. It's all Katrina, as the brunette continues one of the longest clean ups in FCBA history. Of course, if this were just about any other fighter, the clean up and the fight would long be over. But. It's not just "any" fighter. It's Big Red. Law, though, determined to show that doesn't matter. Determined to get her rival out of there. She's stepping into every punch, damning any and all torpedoes. She's going to end this thing one way or the other. Only, she can't. Despite everything she's tossing at the redhead, Regan WILL NOT GO. At the end of the round, she's a wreck, but she's standing. And, Law's up 30-26, but...

ROUND FOUR:
Regan hears it in the corner between rounds. Do something and do something now or the towel's going to be thrown in. We're not going to watch any more of this. Law, though, not going to cooperate. She's right back to the offensive, right back to firing every gun she has in an effort to sink the S.S. Bridget Regan. BOOM! The redhead times a counter. It's not just her best punch of the fight, it's about the first decent one she's landed. And, if she had her legs under her, it might have done for Law. But, even with the redhead wobbly, there was enough on it to stun and stagger the brunette, who stumbles backward and covers up. And, amazingly, Bridget Regan, after taking an absolute thumping for ten straight minutes, goes over to the offensive! Now, it's Regan hammering away and Law getting hammered. Katrina's a savvy veteran, though. She plays defense, keeps the guard high, takes her punishment, but lasts out the round without any further heavy damage. Regan, though, claims her first stanza and cuts the lead to 39-36

ROUND FIVE:
Regan pressing her advantage. She's not giving Law a chance to recover and get back to the offensive. Redhead wants to keep the pressure on. Her own legs are coming back now, and she's able to move better, put together combinations. Law's legs are coming back, too, but she's unable to get off the defensive, due to the sustained suppressive fire coming from her opponent. This is vintage Regan. An absolute offensive machine. Hard, accurate left hands that snap back her opponent's head. Follow on rights that land with incredible power. Thumps you can hear in the last row. Of an arena a mile away. But, now, some of Law's sturdiness begins to show up. Because, Katrina's taking a beating, but, like Regan in the earlier rounds, she ships the shell and stays afloat. In the final seconds of the round, Regan lands another booming right that shakes Katrina, but the brunette hangs on to the bell. Bridget grabs the round wide, but Katrina still leads 48-46 at the half.

ROUND SIX:
Regan continues her offensive. Law beginning to stabilize, hold ground, fire back. And. We. Have. Got. A. Firefight! Two of the hardest hitters in the FCBA are in the center of the ring exchanging absolute BOMBS! Heads are snapping back, sweat is flying. Both fighters are determined to force the other onto the defensive, but neither is willing to go there. It's all about control of the fight. Regan wants to keep it. Law wants to take it back. And, something has to give. When girls who hit this hard are trading in the middle of the ring, well. It's not going to go on forever. And, it doesn't. A ringing right hand from Regan ROCKS Katrina, sending her staggering back two steps. The redhead steps forward behind a barrage of punches and it's BRUNETTE DOWN! Katrina flat on her back as Regan heads to a neutral corner. Referee begins counting and it looks academic...but it's not. Law rolls to her belly, pushes up to hands and knees...and crumples back to the mat! It's OVER! And, your winner by KO6 in comeback fashion is Bridget Regan!

AFTER:
This fight turns out to be a rerun of the fighters' first encounter writ large. The first fight saw a big first round for an aggressive Law followed by a Regan rally in the second that ended things. Tonight, Law's offensive lasted three rounds with the Regan rally a similar length, but the result is the same, allowing a tired, puffy redhead to manage a smile. "You know, they can talk about some of these new girls wno are making waves in this division, but they really shouldn't forget about Katrina. She's as good as anybody above 130. Except one. And, I'm the one."
