Claire Holt vs Minka Kelly
(Odds & Ends Fight Studio vs Lioness Club of America)
(17-7, 11 KO vs 40-17-1, 36 KO)
Results: Lookout; Story: Vassago

BEFORE: We're ready for the Main Event here in the MGM Grand as two former bantamweight champions are ready to duke it out in a not-so classic Irish-Australian battle for supremacy. Some pundits questioned whether this fight will ever take place as both Claire Holt and Minka Kelly were accused of ducking each other but Lioness Club of America's head trainer Claudia Schiffer indicates that's a dish of the day over at the Asylum School of Boxing and it's only down to the schedule of these two being soooo busy during the past couple of years, the fight didn't happen sooner.

Minka openly dismisses claims she judges Holt as "too young" to accept her bid as Erin Andrews drags an old story about the Lionesses refusing to fight Chloe Bennet due to the age difference. Minka agrees that Claire is the second yongest opponent she's faced in her career (only older than former stablemate Nina Dobrev) but her team owes the Odds & Ends Studio a favor or two based on the past Body Paint invitation and a few other things: "That was before my time here in Bradenton so I don't know all the details. Just ask Mr. V and he'll explain it all to you!"

Claire Holt wears a golden basque top, bright green hotpants and black gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a fighting braid. Minka Kelly wears a red basque top, white knickers and white gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a high ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.

Rounds 1 & 2:
Both women are overly cautious at the start of this arguably too-close-to call affair and don't force their hands at all; Minka's last outing saw her go extra rounds versus Allison Mack but one can never accuse her of a light schedule while Holt's mediocre run of results over the summer leads to questions about her mental toughness. She's the younger of the two though and Erin Andrews is keen to learn how Minka handles the age difference which she carefully side-stepped for most of her career. The curious reporter will have to wait a little longer to find that out since Holt makes little progress in the early going and it's truly fair to wonder what's up with the blonde's confidence coming off a loss to fellow cougar Claire Danes in her last fight. And why on Earth isn't Kelly pressing on against the visibly unstable opponent is anyone's guess too.

Round 3:
Minka's polished and down-tempo style is a visible change from her Lookout days and Erin Andrews thinks it's due to lack of competition on the Lioness roster. With all the respect to Nicole Scherzinger and Eva Mendes, they won't push the Irish brunette as hard as Nina Dobrev and Emily VanCamp did back in the old gym. However Andrews' in-depth analysis is brutally interrupted when Holt cashes in with a jabbing drive that finds the brunette's cheeks and enables the Aussie ex-champ to romp clear from point-blank range. Holt is the slightly taller of the two so settles in the close range comfort zone while Minka's footwork isn't exactly up to par as she allows the younger woman to pummel her back to the ropes before escaping at the very last moment as Claire was breathing down her neck with more punches aimed upstairs. The Vegas crowd finally gets a proper test of the Main Event billing but Holt's hectic pursuit in the final minute only allows the L.A. actress to stretch her legs as she drops her lethargic approach in the proccess.

Round 4:
Kelly finally sticks some juice upstairs and keeps Holt's aggressive ideas in check early in the forth. Both women settle into a jabbing dispute but Erin Andrews thinks that's down to the Aussie looking very menacing all of the sudden. She throws more punches than the Irish-American but just can't land that money shot and falls into a steady body assault as Minka switches her targets under Claudia Schiffer's advice. Both women dish out plenty of beef in close range but their resistance is world class here and they take a clinching break when it becomes obvious they won't find an upper-hand anytime soon. This is another fight that can potentially go the distance but most of the pundits fancy Holt's chances if that's indeed the case.

Round 5:
Another close range dispute remains unsolved but Minka's determination in tackling the blonde's liver area leads to Holt searching for a way out come the one minute mark. Kelly swings one hopeful after another switching upstairs threafter but that's more to just move the younger woman around as suddenly Claire takes her foot of the gas possibly pondering that full distance scenario. However Minka's jabbing rush throws her off the comfort zone and results in another hectic close range tangle, this time it's all stacked against the blonde's ribcage again and a couple of late harpoons really make the Aussie cringe in pain as she hangs on until the bell but probably concedes the round anyway.

Round 6:
Both women swarm in close range and Claire just can't stretch her elbows enough while soaking up too much pressure around the liver area again. Minka leans on her and almost accidentally headbutts her but once the proper action resumes, it's all about the brunette slicing the toned Aussie ribcage apart and driving her back into the ropes. Claire wants a foul to be called as she claims Kelly worked with her elbows too much - then she's silenced by a powerful hook to the ear and drops on the ropes for good with the brunette slamming more jabs into the exposed face. It all goes up in a hurry and the high-octane jabbing rush catches most of the audience cold, by the time Holt wraps herself around the American, she nurses a nasty cut on the nasal ridge and nobody saw this coming after an otherwise very even contest to this point.

Round 7:
Claire aims high but misfires in a hectic pursuit to halt the Minka run; she wobbles too much side to side and just can't take advantage of her allegedly superior footwork before getting caught wholesale by a ripping left/right hook that opens the nasal wound again. The blonde gets briefly stranded in the center of the ring but as she tries to protect her wound upstairs, she leaves a hole downstairs and MINKA SLAMS IN a left hook that probably flips the liver sideways alone! Ugh! DOWN GOES HOLT!!! The proud Aussie gets chopped onto the canvas in a blink of an eye and wraps herself in embrional position holding the aching area. She just can't beat the pain more than outright wear & tear of this contest. Let's face it, it's still a shocker! KO7 Minka Kelly in lumberjack fashion!!!

AFTER: Just when one thinks Minka's not up to the task against the younger opposition anymore, she delivers a strike like that! Most of the new generation fighters abandon the classic body assault but Kelly remains old school and is proud of that: "Yeah, I started out slow... again. But even girls like Claire are too afraid to blow their gasket within the opening rounds. I read right through them and I know they respect me too much to go all-in straight away. Plus they're not stupid either! I know I'm not 18 years old anymore but I haven't heard any calls for my retirement. As long as Claire Danes keeps racking up the numbers, I'm not going anywhere myself! You can quote me on that, Andrews!"

Final result: Minka Kelly def. Claire Holt KO7.
