Jenna-Louise Coleman versus Lucy Liu (BBU Flyweight Championship)
(Words & Results: Lookout!)

BEFORE: October 7, 2000 – it's adate, for fans of the Female Celebrity Boxing Association (FCBA) and celebrity fighting in general – that will live in infamy.
Definitely one for the history books as that was the day Lucy Liu won her record 16th (sixteenth) boxing match in a row, beforemaking her move up to bantamweight and vacating the flyweight title. Lucy Liu is one of the sports all-time greats and pundits generallythought that it was a record that would never be broken – competing at such a high level over such a lengthy period of matches, without a major mistake or let down – is extremely difficult. Lucy certainly showed it could be done, however, and plenty of fighters have flirted with the record before coming up empty in the end.

But, here in the British Boxing Unlimited (BBU), one such fighter is on the verge of succeeding where so many before have failed and that fighter is Jenna Louise Coleman. Jenna hasn't lost in the BBU since November 28, 2012 to Debby Ryan, which is a defeat she avenged earlier in the year and has won sixteen a row. If she can pull off a victory today, she would set the record for consecutive wins within one league, although if you count bouts between the FCBA and BBU, Jenna won 23 (twenty-three) in a row before tasting defeat against rival Sophia Bush, but since they keep their records separate, this one is for the record. Win or lose,it's an incredible accomplishment, but history doesn't remember those who almost set records and if Jenna wants to make her mark in the world of celebrity boxing, tonight is her opportunity. It's even bigger because Jenna has agreed to put up the BBU flyweight championship, as a sign of respect for her opponent and her confidence in her success tonight.
As a result, the stands are packed here, even more than usual, with managers from the FCBA and BBU, with plenty of fighters present. Rivals of Jenna Louise Coleman, of which there are many, pack the stands and eager to give predictions of how she might lose. Most rivals are torn between wanting to see history made today and wanting to see a thorn in their collective sides brought low, but all agree, they'd prefer to be the one to stop her winning streak. There is a palpable buzz in the air as it's abig night for the BBU and for celebrity boxing, with Lucy Liu officially fighting for the first time in three (3) years to try to defend her record.

It's clear that Lucy has kept in shape, although no longer the top fighter she was as she is now 47, but Lucy Liu continues to star as Joan Watson in Elementary, a modern and American take on the story of Sherlock Holmes and has maintained her high profile over the years. However, this represents her most high-profile opportunity in years and she states she is honored.

“Of course, it's an exciting moment for the sport and for me personally.” Lucy says with a smile,“That has been one of the biggest records in the sport and everytime somebody gets close, I won't lie, I get a little nervous. But, when girls like Charlotte McKinney took down Kate Upton or Emily VanCamp winning over Chloe Bennet, I pop open a little champagne to celebrate the record lasting a little bit longer. But, Jenna here has almost reached the mountaintop and seems ready to declare herself Queen of the Hill. So, it's up to me to push her back down andmake sure that she can sit with me on top of Everest, but she won't have it all to herself. When you put yourself up on the pedestal with the best, you better believe that the best are going to be ready to knock you right out.”

Jenna Coleman grinning, “Honestly, regardless of what anybody tells you, nobody joins either the BBU or the FCBA to set records, but they would be lying to you if they tell you it's not exciting when you have the opportunity to set one. I've been lucky to have a lot of milestones in my acting career and boxing career, but this is as bad a bout of butterflies as I've ever had. The past few weeks, since I managed to beat Kelly Hall totie the record, I've just been buzzing – it feels like my blood is on fire – I'm so excited. When we realized we had an opportunity to set the record, we knew there was only one person to call – Lucy Liu. Honestly, we didn't think she'd accept, but she showed just a few years ago that she is a top-shelf fighter still as she crushed Hayden Panettiere and that competitive edge never goes away it seems. So, I am very honored, lucky and fortunate to be here with a Hall-of-Famer and legend in the sport with Lucy Liu,competing for a chance to make history and when it's all said and done, I hope to have made the most of the moment!”

And what a moment it is as the arena is positively rocking, with the announcers and referees barely able to hear themselves as both fighters make their entrances. Lucy enters in a black push-up sports bra, with matching shorts and gloves –hair in a fighting ponytail; Jenna arrives clad in a TARDIS-bluesports bra with matching shorts and gloves- hair also in a fighting ponytail. Referee has both fighters meet in the center of the ring and touch gloves respectfully, which they do. Fighters can barely hear the ref's instructions over the roaring of the crowd, but at the end of it, do head to their respective corners to prepare for the momentous fight ahead.
It's been sixteen years since the record of sixteen fights in a row was set – will tonight be the moment when the record finally falls? The crowd, both fightersand the history books are ready to find out...

R1: Liu comes out very quickly, eager to start things off quickly, surprising Jenna with her hand speed and just whacking away up top towards Coleman's face with thudding jabs, showing power from either hand. Jenna appears to be a bit disorganized and perhaps overwhelmed by the moment as she falls backwards, stumbling towards the ropes. Back pedaling, she gets caught by a short right lead hand that crashes into her cheek as her legs lock up and she nearly falls to her butt, but manages to clinch and keep herself upright. But, Lucy just keeping up the pressure as she pushes Coleman back, just slamming her fists in aggressive fashion to Coleman's body as the brunette sits in ropes at the bell, with Lucy taking the first round wide.

R2: This round is much closer, with both Jenna and Lucy circling at midring, just displaying that classicfast-paced flyweight hup-hup as they deliver against one another withslick jabs and hard-hitting hooks to the body. Both girls prove adept at blocking, pivoting or moving their head to avoid punishment in wild back-and-forth action as they keep attacking each other. No respite for either one of them as it's three minutes of punishing punches, but once again, it's Lucy who manages to be a little more aggressive late and Jenna, still perhaps undergoing some nerves, finds herself butt-into-ropes once again, soaking up shots from the aggressive Asian fighter.

R3: Lucy Liu just shining right now with more pressure, trapping Jenna in her corner and coming forward behind dizzying combinations. This is Hall-of-Fame offense ondisplay right now as Jenna's defense is just swamped, with spanking left hooks to the ribcage double Jenna over and transition into quick right hooks to the face. Jenna is hit with a short left-right combination inside, sending her stumbling off balance and Lucy shoulders her backwards with her body to send her staggering back into the corner again. Jenna is wobbly-butt and doubled over, her legs holding her up as keeps getting hammered, although late in the round, she does manage to get in some nice counters off of the ropes to keep Lucy from running away with the points. Regardless, however, she drops the first three to a very determined Liu as her corner tries to calm Jenna down and help her to focus in this bout.

R4: Jenna comes out a little skittish, with Lucy hunting her brunette foe, just stalking and spitting out jabs, with Jenna retreating back along the canvas. However, midway through the round, it's clear that Jenna has set a trap as Lucy pounces in for another crushing combination and Jenna times her for a sneaky and stunning right handover the jab – sending LUCY DOWN! Lucy falls to all fours, but manages to beat the counts, although is clearly woozy when she gets back up and Jenna takes over. It's Jenna squaring up now, just crashing her fists into Liu's ribs and jerking a tight uppercut up into her foe's cleavage, chin and torso. Lucy crumpling forward asit's Lucy's turn to bully her foe backwards against the ropes, just leaving Lucy sputtering at the bell as Jenna hammers in a left hook across her foe's breasts late, taking without response as Lucy canonly squeal in outrage.

R5: Jenna coming on strong now, outjabbing and outhitting Lucy, backing her foe up to the ropes and smothering her offense with swift shotsright up the middle. Lucy falling back to the ropes, elbows coming in tight and trying to slip the shots, perhaps roll her way to freedom, but having difficulty getting anything going. The two of them keep beating at one another shoulder to shoulder in the corner, digging away at one another in bitter trade with little defense late. But, Jenna manages to get the better of her foe and end up ontop, just whacking away to body with right and lefts, feet planted as she leaves Lucy mouth-breathing as she pushes off her all big girl, grinning as Coleman finally seems to have settled down at last to getthis match on track for her.

R6: Lucy determined to go down swinging and comes out rejuvenated, trying to keep hammering up on top to double up with the jab and crashing inhooks to the jugs and face to force Jenna backwards. Jenna caught by surprise, stung badly by a series of short, but hard right hands to the jaw and almost gets sent to the canvas, but clinches again to steady herself. Jenna wincing as Lucy fights through, just ripping away a torrid set of strokes to the body as she folds up against theropes. Jenna's legs and body hold up though as she fights back late in a bitter trade, just sweeping side to side with right and left combinations to Lucy's body – managing to fight her way off of the ropes late as they keep hammering back and forth in a phone booth(TARDIS-style!) in a crowd-pleasing exchange. The ref has to step in to separate the two as both girls are breathing hard and looking worn at the bell, heading to their corners to recover.

R7: Lucy comes storming out and marching in behind a determined jab. Lucy just using the jab that has been so successful for her over the years, leading her to numerous titles, winning streaks and success in her Hall-of-Fame career as she stuns Jenna, rocking her head back with the left and using her shoulder, along with her veteran wiles,to nudge Coleman off balance in order to sling her back to the ropes. Liu using a combination of speed and precision, but Jenna refusing to be bullied back, not with everything on the line, as the two of them engage in a ferocious and furious trade in close quarters, right in the middle of the ring. The two of then pounding away at one another, shots ringing across the ring as both girls fire in a short right up top, but Jenna connects first and LUCY IS HURT! Jenna follows up with a left hook across the cheek, then another and another, just crashing in hard over the top as Lucy staggers to the ropes. Lucy is dazed as Jenna hammers another left hook to hercheek and a right uppercut, leaning back against the ropes as she isn't offering up much defense. The ref comes over to step in as Lucy demands, both verbally and with the intensity of her gaze,glassy-eyed as it's getting, to keep the fight going. But, Jenna tells herself that if the ref won't stop it, then she will as she pours it on, just twisting her sturdy frame into rights and lefts to the body, then bashing away up top via the jab to batter Lucy into acceptance. Lucy's eyes grow vacant as the ref finally comes to step in, but it's too late as Jenna twists her body into a short right hook to the face that sends Lucy sprawling to the canvas. LUCY LIU IS DOWN as Jenna staggers back to the ropes, trembling with anticipation as her body is on the verge of exhaustion, waiting to see whether her foe will rise. But, Lucy won't be getting back upand the ref awards Jenna her RECORD seventeenth (17th) winin a row via KO7!

AFTER: The arena practically silent at first, so quiet you can hear a pindrop, then suddenly it explodes into stunned cheers as Jenna Louise Coleman pulls off the impossible and manages to break one of the most hallowed records in celebrity boxing with a win over the legendary Lucy Liu. Jenna shocked, eyes wide and brimming with tears as she almost is ready to fall to her knees, overcome with emotion. But,before she spills to her knees in exultation, she is literally swarmed by her stablemates from both Lookout! Atlantic and Lookout!Boxing – many of them rivals of hers, but all rivalry forgotten in the moment as she is hugged and held up by her stablemates. Emilia Clarke whispering congratulations in her ear, Vanessa Hudgens high-fiving her, Gemma Merna giving her a cleavage-crushing bearhug,Doutzen Kroes holding her hand up into the air before Kate Upton and Yvonne Strahovski literally carry her around the ring on their shoulders, on and on as confetti and balloons rain down from the ceiling. Coleman is sobbing through it all, beaming with excitement and trying to make sense of the moment as she pumps her fists through the air, just on top of the world right now.

When she is set back down on the canvas, although still seems to be walking on air, Jenna heads over to meet up with Lucy Liu, separating from her stablemates. There is no question of any posts match humiliation here tonight between two fighters who respect one another as they exchange a hug as Jenna keeps struggling to contain herself. Jenna is practically gushing with sincere respect for her opponent, almost wanting to apologize for knocking her out, but restrains herself from doing so. Jenna and Lucy talk for a few minutes among the roaring of the crowd and with her stablemates keeping the reporters back to allow them some privacy. The two of them just smiling and separate seemingly on good terms, with a hug. Lucy goes to leave the ring, but not before Jenna leads her to the middle of the ring to lift her hand to the air as well as the two of them pose in the middle of the ring. It's a big passing-of-the-torch moment as Lucy makes sure to lift up Jenna's arm and gesture to her as the new record holder, with the crowd giving them both a standing ovation.

Of course, some members of the crowd are personal rivals of Jenna Louise Coleman and Lucy Liu, who can't stand in the arena any longer and head out quietly to allow Jenna her moment of coronation and celebration. It's a major celebration as Jenna listens to the crowd chanting her name, finally drying her eyes as she allows herself a big, confident smile and heads over to each turnbuckle. Mounting the corner as she pumps her fist, bellowing and roaring with excitement, soaking in the moment and then, eventually being literally soaked with champagne as Rosie Jones and Emily VanCamp break out the champagne bottles. It's a wild moment – one that Jenna Coleman or anybody present will soon forget – as Jenna makes history and sits alone atop the mountaintop at last.

Who would've thought a young star from Blackpool could pull this off? The answer is likely nobody, probably not even Jenna herself, but here she is and as exciting as this moment is, her journey isn't over yet and she can make anybody breaking this record even harder with a few more wins. But, that's a story for another night, as continued success is never guaranteed. You can only take it one match at a time and one moment at a time – for right now, that is exactly what Jenna Louise Coleman plans to do. To arrive here is improbable and unbelievable, but as the great Sherlock Holmes said: “When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?” And the facts are undeniable as they are improbable –Jenna Louise Coleman has set the record with 17 in a row and that is the truth!
