AMANDA RIGHETTI (33 y/o, 5 ft 8, W: 68, L: 25) vs PAULA PATTON (41 y/o, 5 ft 7, W: 11, L: 14)
(Words: Bonzo / Results: Lookout!)

Before: Even past the age of 40, Paula Patton’s a busy, well-regarded fighter at welterweight – she only debuted at 36, and a couple of years later her body’s still considered one of the absolute best in the division in terms of strength, muscularity and stamina. She’s nevertheless found it difficult to turn her athleticism into steady rows of victories: she’s never been in a title fight and has lost bouts against many of the division’s top names, including Regan, Sobieski, Atkinson, Law, Upton and Kajlich. Last year, back-to-back wins over Nolin and Landry have brought her back into consideration, returning her to BWO’s top ten list. She’s still widely known for her duo of bouts against Righetti in 2012, and their diametrically opposed results – her upset KO9 was one of the most comprehensive physical beatdowns of Big Rigs on the record books, while Righetti’s subsequent wide UD10 win stands as one of her own most frighteningly impressive displays in superiority. That variation, Amanda explains, caused her to return for a third bout with Paula, “My revenge win was comprehensive, but lacked a knockdown. Paula’s just as strong now, if not stronger, and I’m lusting to trade with her. I know I can out-jab her, out-box her, but I want to actually trade punches, and see if I can get her onto her back.” Patton’s terse in her response, “I respect Amanda, but if she thinks it’s a good idea to go hammer n’ tongs against me, of all people, she’s not finishing this bout on her feet, but carried out lying on a stretcher.”

Fight: R1: Righetti opening sharp, crafty via a circling, jolting jab; she’s fast and side-stepping Patton, blasting thick, shoulder-powered right hands to Paula’s guard/neck/cleavage when brunette rushes in aggressively, repelling Patton’s swinging Hail Mary overhead rights with well-measured, precise poke. Paula keen to get inside, stayin’ active, movin’ her head well – yet the overwhelming strategy for PP’s not paying off early against Rigs’ straight jabs tracking her, those drifting, sweeping right hands slamming home to Patton’s ribs/skull whenever Paula’s penetrating via her own swaying right. Mid-round: Patton batters thru a timed left detonating on her solarplexus…she grimaces, erupting into two, three straight, strong hooks via her own left, stacking ‘em chip-chop into Amanda’s ribcage, punching Righetti onto her back heels for the first time. Redhead attempts to keep authority, eliminate PP’s penetrating rights: she’s still annoying Patton with the left, left…next time Paula’s bobbed into range, ‘Manda preps a short-distance uppercut, timing it to the chin, plop! Patton still drives forward, push n’ shove-ish…at one point, she’s palming Righetti’s shoulders, pressing her back towards ropes, clockin’ short upward lefty body hooks into Amanda’s side and under her arms as Rigs struggles/buffets against PP’s strong chassis. After separated, Paula’s long, tossing left penetrates first, running past ‘Manda’s…catching Rigs upside the chin, and again, upside the chin, as Patton really lunges in! Rigs takes the individual shots well, but she’s floating back on her heels, out-punched there…her back’s where Paula wants it, in the ropes…down the stretch, Patton starts ripping Righetti’s body flanks, left/right, left/right, before rising into clubbing a left hook onto Righetti’s right ear, rattling her skull to good effect. Detonating, numbing power of Patton’s punches mitigates Righetti – redhead spends last stretch gasping, leaning back, staying alert, but visibly annoyed at yielding the opening round’s points to Paula’s aggressive power.

R2: Righetti uncompromising via the jab, POUNDING ‘em to Paula’s skull, especially upside her cheekbones or to the temple, then alternating ‘em to shoulder/arms/collar…systematic, precise aggressive-defensive work very effective for Rigs, because Patton’s so hungry, stubborn for trade…muscle-bound brunette still wades in a-bobbin’, hopin’ to penetrate, remains very aggressive via wide, thumping right hands, but EATING Righetti’s receipts in healthy, crumping fashion. Righetti working with varied palette: the jab keeps the approaching Paula on her toes, punches her onto her back foot repeatedly…usually followed by healthy, big-girl shoves to shoulders; the right hand PUNISHES Patton for intruding whenever she stays inside too long…Patton can bury some hooks across Righetti’s mid-section/chest, but eats powerful, drifting rights to her face/guard in return; especially, Patton’s not reading Amanda’s hooks well…allowing Righetti to plop down on ‘er via dippin’ shoulder, striking her behind the right elbow, into her ribs, thuddin’ punches across her left jawline. Bell: Patton’s glassy-eyed, looking numbed from Righetti’s blunt force, taking way too many head shots as Big Rigs fully realizes her strategy.

R3: Righetti determined to shut out Patton in similarly devastating fashion – but Paula adjusts a bit, no longer walking as vehemently into Amanda’s poking oomph…she’s dippin’ her body side to side, looping overhead rights when trying to close, but brings a more formidable jab into her game, fixing it snap, snap to Amanda’s breadbasket, hurting her girl in the first minute. Patton changes tack: circlin’, steppin’ onto her back heel, she’s luring Rigs forward, nudging her to lead instead of counter-attack via the jab…Righetti happy to stalk, shift weight to left foot, lean into longer, rangier lefts drifting to Patton’s ribs/tits, but as round moves along Paula’s getting better at anticipating her rhythm – she’s catching ‘Manda out with fast, twirling jabs to the mouth/chin, staggering the redhead’s firm stance now. Sly, slick counter punching by PP – she’s using the straight, jerking jabs well…when she feels she has paved the way, Patton switches more into combos…leaning past/over Rigs’ lunging left, her own back in the ropes, she’s fast ploppin’ the left to the jaw, then jerks the right hand home! Righetti’s in shock! Amanda wooed into her own hole…Patton driving that right hand into the skull, slo-mo replay showing that punch’s churning, concussing impact on Righetti’s astonished face…Amanda stumbles to ropes on baby-steps, blocking via her hands, blocking, as Patton palms, shoves with her arms crossed, tapping her right hand against the guard. In the third min, Patton’s really snapping for Amanda’s meat, her murderous wide uppercuts, left and right, bouncing hard off Amanda’s lats/flanks, the redhead’s upper body slowly stooping over from Paula’s ripping aggression…at the bell, there’s Patton’s wide back glistening, her muscular buttocks a-shudderin’ as she’s still pastin’ ‘Manda to the body until stopped by the ref.

R4: Righetti emerging less gritty, efficient with the jab, fumblin’ it forward, doing less damage to Paula’s face/guard…Patton’s allowed to wade in and penetrate via chop-chop left hooks across Rigs’s tummy and hovering rights to face…she slowly stacks up redhead at ropes, dislodging, ousting her from mid-ring position in the first! Patton such a brawny, irresistible fighter in the pocket when unleashed…Amanda’s plugged in near her own turnbuckle, legs set broadly apart, forming an earmuff stance, leaning the torso away from punches into her sides…Patton workin’, workin’, workin’, all atop Rigs, pushin’ her to chest via the forearm, then drifts right hands to mouth/chin! Brutal stuff…Paula’s alternatin’ hooks/right hands/shoves, turning Rigs groggy, unsteady, more and more passive. Guuuh-guuuh…series of brute-force uppercuts to her left-side neck/jaw in the second minute finally sees Righetti stumbling rightward, spinning her right shoulder away from the harm into ropes…standing at an almost right angle versus her foe’s parallel-ropes stance, Paula Patton RUSHES into the smooth, limber right hand, connecting with the right side of Amanda’s face in ugly, heartbreaking fashion! Righetti’s down! Redhead’s legs no longer supporting her weight, as her body corkscrews, spinning down to the right fast and hard in front of the turnbuckle…she’s landing on the side but gets her right leg up instantly to rise to all fours, heaving in deep, deep breaths…but Amanda beats the count by strength of will! Patton aggressive, in finishing mood now…she stalks Rigs via whippin’ left, right hooks to flanks/tummy, then detonates crude, sturdy right hands knockin’ at Amanda’s skull/guard, skull/guard – Righetti looking windblown, but withstands the powerful rush, stoopin’ into clinches, pressin’ back against PP’s muscular body, slowin’ down the tempo …and Amanda starts trading back in the third! Redhead leaning into a right hand straight over Patton’s left uppercut arm, thudding into Paula’s solar plexus, getting Patton to stumble, now looking hurt…round ends to welter strongwomen – their heads on opposing shoulders, buttocks straining hard – struggling’, shovin’, gettin’ separated, then lockin’ bodies again.

R5: Righetti wary of Patton’s poke but leggy, fit – she attempts to keep her opponent at bay, hold her off via a bobbin’, weavin’, tappin’ jab – Paula’s still getting the better of these early exchanges, building a slender, left-turned stance, leaning in under/over Amanda’s jab arm to land thick, whiplashing right hooks to the ribs/tummy/tits, but she’s frustrated by Righetti’s prompt receipts via good legwork, the defiant left poke. Paula’s no longer backing up her foe as robustly when Amanda firms her stance, blocking, answering…Patton tastes a right hand in mid-ring trade as Rigs twists into a straight from the guard, but answers via pumping mid-section hooks, whacking ‘em to the tummy, whacking ‘em…Patton’s aggression still pounds Righetti into ropes in the second minute by way of prepping her lefts to the breast/shoulder, then twisting into stocky rights shuddering Amanda’s guard. Later…Rigs working from ropes, but looking more relaxed, safer behind a brawny guard, not allowing Patton to penetrate as effectively with her wide, lashing sidehooks into ribs/flanks, timing Paula’s rights better for choppin’ little lefts thru the middle to Patton’s mouth/chin. Paula’s belligerent, but getting outfoxed in the third minute, still impelling the tempo with her sturdy right hand, but starting to eat more and more of Righetti’s counter jabs, as redhead settles in pretty comfortably in her rope position….Patton refuses to leave top position, answering to trade harm inside, keep the left pumping, the right jerking home. Girls trade, trade, trade – but it’s Patton who eats a WHACKING left hook upside her head that leaves her paralyzed, her mouth opening in shock….Paula’s punched dizzy! Righetti moves ahead, thrashing both arms into wide, limber, body punches landing underneath Patton’s tits – Paula suddenly all stiff, moving backwards hastily, forming a slender, defensive earmuff stance near opposite ropes, but Amanda leans in relentlessly from the right, chopping her right hand past Patton’s outstretched jab arm…the staggering punch upside her nose folds up Patton, slumping her into the ropes, her body relaxing. Righetti steps-to for more choppin’ via the left, but Paula’s already loosened…she’s tumblin’ to all fours, flabbergasted! Patton rallies off canvas: swaying brunette takes her time, but beats the count at eight, but she ain’t looking good…she’s mouth-breathing, her steps tottering…it’s the bell that saves her after Righetti wades in, already hacking hooks to the ribs/tummy…Patton looking BATTERED on her way to corner, as team does emergency job on her.

R6: Righetti comes out in punishing mode, while Paula looks bleak, detached…Patton’s a bold fighter, but she’s taking relentless harm from the bell, walkin’ into it…Righetti steps on the gas, weight on her left foot, she’s driving/pushing her foe backwards via the outside pumping left arm’s jab or socking right hands to Paula’s gut/guard/arms. Patton’s legs still broad/strong but she’s moving a little heavy, sluggish now, no longer concealing the enormous punishment dished out by Rigs to her ribs/chest/core at this point…in the course of the first minute, Amanda’s dictating left, the ever-dangerous, ever-sanctioning right hand punch Patton into a stooping, covering up girl…early, Patton’s still trying to stay active, escape ‘Manda via fast side-steps, bobbings to the side, but slowly, Righetti’s left’s boxing, constricting her ever more, allowing Rigs to run down that right hand to Patton’s shoulders/guarded head, churnin’ the meat in heartbreaking fashion, as Paula staggers, wilts under the weight of shot! Patton’s such a stubborn, determined, incredibly proud brawler, but she’s just not getting her foot in the door now…her eyes pounded to slits when her guard opens up from the steady pressure, as Amanda stays close, jerking ‘em right uppercuts to her neck/jaw/face in shuddering fashion. One of the worst, most destructive minutes in Patton’s career…Amanda’s right’s just bashing, bashing, BASHING her…then, one right uppercut sloshes to Paula’s temple, folding her stiff, followed by two smooth left hooks, knock-knock, to the right jawline! And Paula collapses! Patton’s stopped in her tracks, droppin’ the hands…she takes one, two baby steps forward, then just topples down fast! Patton’s lying outstretched, prostrate, not movin’ – she just got stopped in SCARY fashion, KO6 Amanda Righetti!

After: Righetti jubilant – she separates from Paula Patton in their third fight, looking delighted by her knockout power…Patton brought back in stages, getting smelling salts on her stool…proud brunette, one of the strongest women in boxing, got utterly ruined tonight. “Paula’s incredibly dangerous, but when I got back from the knockdown, I felt good”, Amanda says, “I could feel my power coming back, but when I knocked her down, I knew it was different for her. But it was so early in the fight, so I wanted to play it safe and finish her for good. I’ve never been a knockout artist, but I feel like I’m getting to closer to it. A couple years ago, I was riding out some fights for crafty decision wins, but now I feel much more comfortable with my one-punch stopping power. I hope girls are scared,” she smirks.
