Danielle Fishel vs. Britney Spears
(Words: FS / Results: Lookout!)

BEFORE:

There aren't many pairs of fighters in the FCBA that can claim as many big fights between them as Danielle Fishel and Britney Spears, fighters who've combined for nearly 400 fights and 22 titles. But, one could argue that, for Spears at least, none of those fights was as big as this one, because it's the last one. The blonde beauty is stepping into the ring for the last time and she definitely wants to cap a Hall of Fame career with her 93rd victory.

"I remember my first fight," says a nostalgic Brit. "I didn't win. But, I didn't lose, either. It was against Charisma Carpenter. And, everybody told me I should be happy, fighting a girl like that even in my first fight, when I was a teenager. But, I wasn't. Because I wasn't there to fight somebody even or impress somebody with my potential. I was there to win. And, I've been there to win in every one of the 151 fights since then, so, I'm damn sure here to win the last one, and that's exactly what I'm going to do."

"I said what I had to say in my challenge," says a hard-eyed Dani. "She's not getting out of the FCBA without getting in with me one more time. Tonight, Britney Spears isn't going to retire. Tonight, I'M going to RETIRE Britney Spears."

ROUND ONE:

Obviously, there's no affection between these two long-time rivals, and, if anyone had any illusions about the pair having mellowed over the years, well. Those thoughts go right to the ash-bin in the first ten seconds as the two bantams simply charge one another and begin banging away in the center of the ring. For Spears, the target is upstairs, but, for Fishel, it's down, and that pays off early as she HURTS BRIT TO THE BODY with a nasty shot up under the rib cage! Spears STRICKEN, face a mask of pain and Dani's all IN! She's not only going to retire the blonde, she's going to do it in humiliating fashion, inside the first round! Fishel pummels a lead-legged Spears back into the ropes and just gives her an absolute pounding for the remainder of the round. Referee seems ready to stop it several times, but, for whatever reason, he does not. Instead, he watches as Fishel beats up Brit and wins the first going away.

ROUND TWO:

Fishel thumping away early. Brit still feeling that body shot and the resultant punishment from the last round and Dani's taking full advantage. Slowly, however, the blonde begins to solidify her front. She's holding canvas, banging back, slopping with The Queen of Slop. Fishel perfectly happy right here, in close, hammering away. These are The Tank's terms, and there aren't many fighters who are going to be able to beat her on them, even a fellow Hall of Famer like Spears. To her credit, though, the sturdy Brit's giving about as good as she gets in there. She's making Dani take plenty of leather as payment for all the punishment she's dishing out. Late in the round, things get even more testy, as Fishel lands one low in the belly and Britney takes exception, giving her a shove. Ref is between them and the clock runs out before action can resume. Staredown. But, the ref chases the ladies back to their corner, while the judges give the round to Fishel close and put her up 20-18.

ROUND THREE:

Bitter, bitter stuff now. Fighters both looking to deal punishment as much as score points and win the fight. Britney now concentrating on Dani's body, all the better to pay her back for the damage Fishel's already inflicted on Brit's. The brunette, meanwhile, doing her thing in close, levering with the shoulder, hooking the flanks, using that dangerous uppercut both upstairs and down. Entire round is fought in the phone booth, with neither fighter apparently wanting any distance. By the last minute, we go from almost no distance to none at all. Girls fighting with heads on one another's shoulders, just digging body with everything they have, both, apparently, confident her own sturdy frame will come out on top in a war of attrition with her rival's. At the bell, referee has to shove between the fighters to break them apart and stop action. It's another close one. This one to Spears, who now trails 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Britney tosses Dani a curve ball. Fishel moves forward to engage and Spears circles, jabs, makes the brunette work to cut the ring. Brit may be 35, but she's in terrific shape and still moves like a dancer. Dani immediately a little frustrated by this unexpected turn of events, unexpected because Brit hasn't fought this way in some time. But, she's doing it now and doing it well, so Fishel has to try to match footwork and bring the blonde to battle. BOOM! A right hand from Brit and DANI'S HURT! Spears catches Fishel coming in with a one-two, a left jab to stop her and then a follow on right that unhinges the knees! Fishel wobbles, but stays on her feet and Spears begins calling in the big guns immediately. Blonde thumps the brunette with flurry after flurry as Dani backs and covers, tries to ride out the storm. By the final 30 seconds, it's Fishel on the ropes, taking fire from everywhere and the ref looking in again...but, again, deciding to allow it to continue. At the bell, Dani's looking out on her feet, but, she's standing. Brit, however, has grabbed it wide and evened things at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Spears all over Fishel. She's got Dani in trouble and she's determined not to let her off the hook. Fishel in retreat, jabbing back in spots, playing for time, trying to get those sturdy legs back under her. Dani putting the body on sale, but Brit not buying much. She wants to end this thing right now, and she's concentrating upstairs, looking for the big shot that will do it. BOOM! The big shot comes...from FISHEL! Dani walks Brit into a perfect right hand counter and DOWN GOES SPEARS! Britney blown to her back by a brutal right hand that lands right on the chin. Dani quickly to a neutral corner to watch Spears' career finale. Brit down and out of it as the numbers mount up. BUT. At nine, somehow, to her feet. Fishel can only shake her head. And wait as the referee doles out the mandatory...and allows it to continue yet again. ON COMES FISHEL! There are but 30 seconds left in the round, but they have to seem like 30 minutes for Brit, because Dani takes her to the woodshed and beats her with it. Fishel just UNLOADING on Spears as Brit wobbles against the ropes. Ref again looking closely, but, it's clear he doesn't want to be the one to end this. If Spears can stay on her feet...and, somehow, she can. At the bell, SHE'S now looking out on her feet, but, she's standing. Dani, though, has gotten her two-point lead back with one punch, as the cards now ready 48-46, Fishel.

ROUND SIX:

Fishel after Spears early and, for the first time all night, Britney goes to the pocket. Spears on the ropes, playing defend and counter as Dani settles in for a long siege. Fishel very aggressive early and pays for it, because that's exactly what she can't do here, open herself up for those sharp counters from the blonde. Doesn't take the brunette long to realize that, so, she becomes more measured in her attacks. Rest of the round sees some excellent tactical stuff, with Fishel trying to create openings in Spears' excellent defense, while Britney takes every opportunity to counter with hard, accurate stuff every time Dani throws a punch. It's a good, two way round for the last two minutes plus, but those early stages, where Fishel was too aggressive and took too much leather win the day for Spears, who narrowly claims the round to cut Dani's lead to 57-56.

ROUND SEVEN:

Brit right back in the pocket and Dani right back to the Siege of Britney. Fishel working hard to create openings and she's now managing to do that more frequently. For her part, Spears still sharp and accurate in the counter. Very accurate. BOOM! A blistering right hand from Britney and FISHEL'S HURT! Dani stumbling backward and Brit explodes off the ropes and DROPS HER WITH A COMBINATION! Fishel dropped to her back half way through the seventh! Spears quickly to the neutral corner to watch and wait, but, she's going to be just as disappointed as her rival was earlier. Fishel to her feet at seven. Ref gives her the mandatory and waives on Spears. Now it's Brit who wants to make sure Dani doesn't wriggle off the hook. She's throwing everything she has at the brunette, driving her back into the ropes and hammering away, looking for the 'off' switch. Fishel shaken several times, but refusing to go down. Referee again looking, but not willing to stop this thing, and, as a result, Dani makes the bell. But, it's Britney 10-8 and, for the first time, Spears takes the lead 66-65.

ROUND EIGHT:

Danielle Fishel, this is the Woodshed. Woodshed, this is Danielle Fishel. From the opening seconds of the round, Brit takes the fight to her fellow Hall of Famer, punishing her with everything in the arsenal. For Dani's part, it's just about survival now. She's hurt, legs wobbly, looking ready to go. But, there are reasons a girl gets into the Hall of Fame, and one of them is an iron will. And, there's no question Danielle Fishel has one of those. And, it's on full display for the length of the eighth round. Spears hammers Fishel with shot after shot, emptying the magazines, sitting down on every punch, just POUNDING her in an effort to finish her. But, Danielle won't go. Fishel's sturdy legs are sorely tested, but they pass. By the end of the round, the brunette's looking a mess, face puffing up, legs wobbling, but she's on her feet, and that's all that matters for the moment. Spears has failed to finish, but, she's claimed the round in a shutout and leads 76-74.

ROUND NINE:

Britney goes to the pocket. Spears definitely arm-weary after the last two rounds and figures to spend this one on the ropes playing defense. And, that's just the opening Fishel needs. The pressure off, Dani's able to go back to the offensive. She digs deep and finds something, shaking off the last two rounds and putting together a brilliant siege of the rope-bound blonde. Fishel's firing away in combination, buffeting Brit with salvo after salvo of hard shot. Spears rolling with, countering here and there, but not able to do much of anything now that Fishel's got it going. It's a combination of the arm-weariness and Dani's excellently executed offensive, of course, and the result is a dominant round for a girl who looked finished a few moments ago. From bell to bell, it's all Dani, who's grabbed a shutout round of her own just when she needed it to cut Spears' lead to 85-84.

ROUND TEN:

Corners have different ways of delivering the same message. In Fishel's, it's simpler. "You need the round, Dani. She's ahead." In Spears', there's a little more to it. "Last round of your life, kid. Make it a good one." Spears does not go to the pocket. She's still got legs in the tenth, and she's using them, moving, jabbing, showing some of the Britney we first saw way back in 1999. Fishel's seen the act before, over the years and earlier tonight. She's got the remedy. The Tank moves the feet, cuts, the ring, brings Spears to battle, starts firefights. Brit holds her own there, then slips away, gets back on the move. Dani right back after her, showing she's still got legs after nine grueling rounds, too, cutting, closing, creating big exchanges. Before Brit slips away again. It's good, two-way stuff for two minutes, and then, BOOM! It's a brilliant right hand from Britney and DOWN GOES FISHEL! Dani blasted to her back by a a straight right hand and Spears leaps into the air, thrusting her right glove high above her head. Blonde clearly thinks it's over, but she wastes no time getting to the neutral corner where she watches as Fishel stars up at the referee, head lolling from side to side as he counts. At six, Dani drapes her right arm over her eyes. She can't get up! And, it's OVER! And your winner by KO10 for the last time is Britney Freakin' Spears!

AFTER:

Any hope of a post-fight interview trashed immediately by the Front Street corner. As soon as the count reaches ten, corner personnel are in the ring to lift Britney up on their shoulders. Rest of the stable pours in behind them and helps carry the Hall of Famer around the ring. Brit buries the head in the gloves briefly, the enormity of it all washing over her, but, then, red eyed, she drops the gloves, smiles, and enjoys the ride around the ring, first pumping her fists and then waiving at the crowd one final time before being lifted over the ropes and carried back to the locker room, a victor one last time.
