Anna Torv vs Miranda Kerr
(Front Street Gym vs Downunder Boxing)
(34-8, 29 KO vs 6-2, 6 KO)
Results: Lookout; Story: Vassago

BEFORE: It's not exactly the biggest fight in Australian FCBA history but it's pretty much as good as it gets without Yvonne Strahovski being involved. Melbourne's Anna Torv and Sydney's Miranda Kerr battle it out for the lightweight supremacy in Brisbane of all places as the Suncorp Stadium hosts the unofficial dress rehearsal before the Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn blockbuster on Sunday. Yes, we're outdoors and it's been ages since Anna Torv fought on home soil but she arrives in Brisbane on the back of league-best 14 consecutive wins that puts her on the brink of another divisional title shot this summer - that's if you ignore the noise coming from her stable which claims Front Street is done with lightweight title fights this season. Don't let that noise fool you, Front Street is always about titles and beating Kerr is like an (un)official eliminator ticket in the 130 lbs category these days.

Anna Torv wears a neon green basque top, matching knickers and white gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a high ponytail. Miranda Kerr wears a golden bikini set and red gloves. Long light brown hair tied in a curly ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.

Rounds 1 & 2:
Both women are overly cautious at the start of this fight and perhaps that's understandable given the high national stakes involved. Anna is anything but a rapid-fire operator and likes to wear her opponents out before dishing out the juice however she turned 38 earlier this month and isn't neccessarily the most durable competitor around anymore. Still, she can lay out anyone within her reach and Kerr's master tactician approach has that dangerous option covered as the model remains half-hearted in her attacks and prefers to high guard safety. Torv deploys the aerial swinging but doesn't engage with all cylinders firing either and since she's not the fastest across the boards, both rounds tail off into a lenghty wrestling stalemate which only bides the women some time and threatens to extend this boxing chess game long into the night.

Round 3:
Anna finally kicks into higher gear and beats the model for the overhand swing before tackling her to the body. It's one area where all these super models are allegedly inferior but Kerr channels some inside leather magic and connects with Anna's boobs before scything her across the mouth to tame the initial attack. Torv comes back swinging though and nails Miranda on the ear while adding another left hook on the ribacge that bends the lanky girl forward and enables Torv to work with an uppercut tirade. She catches the model on the chin several times but eventually runs out of space as Kerr clinches her and wrestles back to the ropes. A couple of desperate hooks still pierce the younger girl's ribcage but there's not enough juice behind them to really hurt the Sydney native.

Round 4:
Torv springs out of her stool and looks to resume the close range assault that won her the previous round but Kerr's speed proves superior and the model beats the charging actress with a left hook on the mouth before adding another uppercut straight up the middle. It catches Anna on the jaw and wobbles her to the side, the slumped gloves briefly offer no protection so Miranda hammers in with another jabbing assault and rocks the blonde's head back & forth until the actress has to yield real estate. Kerr effectively pummels her into the corner and keeps firing upstairs to freeze Torv under the barrage, a late flurry of the Front Street woman misses the target and Miranda really dents the hot streak continuity as she whacks the blonde from both sides until the bell eventually halts her charge. Whoa! Anna is as shocked as anyone in Brisbane but only shakes her head while wiping the sweat from her bruised face.

Round 5:
We're not in the Asylum Arena but Torv does the best impression of a folk town hero with a spirited drive that finally matches the model's intensity. Both women duke it out in mid-range but only single punches reach the destination so we don't have a breakthrough on hand until Anna cuts the younger girl across the nasal ridge and wobbles her on her heels with a proper power supply. A quick switch downstairs cracks Miranda's ribcage and makes her lose her breath which in turn enables the blonde to camp inside her cleavage. Miranda wraps herself around the actress but the stalemate tactics backfires for once as Torv drives her into the corner and dominates the late action with surgical hooks on the bruised ribcage. Kerr really needs to catch her breath after that one!

Round 6:
This is a far cry from the opening couple of rounds but tempers flare early in the sixth when an accidental clash of heads opens the cut on Miranda's nose. She buries a left hook in Anna's tummy and tackles her waistline thereafter which fuels the equally ruthless response from the blonde. The ref had no time to react and break the girls up in wake of that clash of heads but that's only the audience's gain as both women whip each other in close range, a sort of action you'd expect down among the flyweights... the national stakes are indeed on the line and while Miranda's nasal ridge has taken the biggest visible damage, the repeated leather slapping on Torv's ribcage makes the loudest noise and takes the steam right out of the Front Street faithful. Ugh! Anna cries out in pain when Kerr nearly chops her clean on the liver but immediate switch on the jaw rocks the blonde's head back and bends her awkwardly to the side. Ugh! Torv gets whacked below the elbow and cries out one more time before the model slams a right hook on the lips right at the bell that FOLDS TORV ON HER KNEES.... but the clock has expired like half a second earlier and the ref says it was a late punch! He won't issue the count but Kerr simply couldn't pull out of the punch as she caught the Melbourne actress on the follow through... wanna bet the folks in Nashville say otherwise?

Round 7:
Despite (unofficially) going down right at the three minute mark of the sixth, Torv is as fired up as ever entering the next... but Miranda is FURIOUS she was denied the count and beats the older woman for a right-on-right double that splits her lips allows the model to slam another left/right combo on the nose. Anna wobbles to her heels but she's unable to step back as she trips over her own feet and Kerr is right there thumping uppercuts on the jugs - that removes enough air from Torv's lungs she really needs to catch some break now... but the model is laying all the juice available and literally tries to cut the hot streak woman in half! Anna's unable to secure the clinch, that's not the standard Front Street procedure anyway but the lack of defensive edge leads to her downfall as she cries out while getting dissected to the body and drops her arms in a futile protection just as Kerr's right hook rings in her ear AND SENDS HER TUMBLING DOWN ON HER BACK... Ugh! It's Sydney on top! The repeated damage to the midsection proves to be the fatal weakness and Anna is breathing so heavily one can basically feel her pain... and it's too much pain as the blonde rolls into embrional position and fails to beat the count! The 14-fight streak is over! KO7 Miranda Kerr!!!

AFTER: Only two fights away from the all-time record and Anna Torv can't set up the Asylum blockbuster fight which Kristen Stewart once enjoyed vs Salma Hayek (well, enjoyed until she was defeated by the Mexican cougar). And Miranda makes sure Anna remembers how the Australian war was won... "They said us models are weak to the body! Guess what? I just stopped Anna Torv''s streak beating her to the body. It's time to hand over the keys... She's lucky Elle MacPherson is like fifty something... or maybe I'm lucky? (winks). Well, anyway, since Anna is down and out and Elle is like too old to make it competitive, there's only one name out there left for me.. yeah, Vonnie, I'm talking about you! I hope you're free next month cause I'm coming for you! (winks again).

The Yvonne Strahovski open challenge steals all the post-fight headlines especially that the Front Street entourage is focused on running another Asylum PPV later tonight. Anna herself refuses to speak to the local media and shoves Sarah Cumming of the "Green & Gold" magazine away before storming out of the Suncorp Stadium. It's a long flight back to Philly and the blonde veteran will have plenty of time to dwell on her one-in-a-lifetime oppportunity getting flushed down the drain by her fellow compatriot no less. Can she ever mount another run like that? Probably not.

Final result: Miranda Kerr def. Anna Torv KO7.
