Emily VanCamp  versus Claire Holt (Bantamweight Title

(Words: O & E / Results: Lookout!)

Before: Claire back in the big show, had a good camp - she's quietly confident in prefight. "Emily's a complete fighter, there's no cheap way to beat her, I have to commit to her body, discourage her down there, take away her legs, then I can go about dismantling her from there. I think I'm the harder puncher, so I want to make this fight about punching to a certain extent - I don't want her running the clock and sharpshooting me."

Five years since Emily stepped to on the beach, “I told my guys--’get me Claire’--because this is where I end her. I’m not the girl she edged out in our last fight. I’m all grown up; I’m here to do what it takes, and mark my words: this fight is going to mark the end of Claire’s comeback.”

Ringpost set in sand. Claire entering in her gold fish-scaled beach-fighting bikini, hair wetted and slicked back, black gloves. Emily in yellow bikini, hair back in battle bun, white gloves.

R1: Claire jogging across the sand, attacking Emily in her own corner, Champ beaten up against the turnbuckles as challenger digs in. Bell to bell Holt: loose crossed-arm guard, dipping and twisting side to side to haul clubbing leather onto VanCamp’s flanks, arms and skull. Emily too adopts a crossed-arm, stooping forward, trying to dip under Claire’s horizontal swings. Rude beating for the champ: Holt just on top, shelling away big-girl as VanCamp can’t get out of there.

R2: Emily surprises Claire with a punishing jab, good ring generalship to open. VanCamp stepping left around a brace of belly jabs, twists into a clanging right rocking Holt’s head back. Claire momentarily stunned, stepping in fence post holes, Emily hops in all grins and GETS CHEWED UP! Holt halts VanCamp’s advance with a rough shoulder in the chest, hooks her midriff, hooks her face, turns into a clouting right off the face, Champ getting hammered, bravely trying to muscle her way through it. Gorgeous slamming stuff from Claire, tearing at Emily and hurting her. Holt easing to her left, grimly working the body, then the head--crisp, compact power punches. Down the stretch, Claire bends into a short right off the face, stacking Emily up, pops a zesty hook out of the crouch, undoing Champ’s legs, then a gorgeous series of gut wrenching hooks thumps home VANCAMP TAKES A KNEE! Emily squeezing out tears hugging a mugged ribcage--she beats the count all a-swoon as Claire gets to her in a big way.

R3&4: Emily really impressing on the outside in the opening minutes, a nice workmanlike stick ramming away tonight, she’s taking smart little steps and sliding her feet, keeping her punching balanced. Claire dipping and weaving, but she’s getting nailed right hands as VanCamp finds openings, rubbering up challenger’s legs for a moment in early action. Holt takes over on the inside however, backing Emily up with a fusillade of jagged, pumping lefts and rights, determined to collapse the Champ with a pointed attack on the midriff. Once again, VanCamp sagging against the ropes, dukes rigid at her eyebrows, Holt going brawny, propping her upright with shoulders and forearms, twisting side to side to strap home the hurt. Tough rounds to score, Emily with gaudy power early, Claire with consistent punishment and draining body attack the rest of the way.

R5: Claire finds a seam, peppering jabs to screen, drops a crunching right on chin to set Emily’s legs a-stamping. VanCamp still trying to rally when Holt doubles up the hook to ear and liver, buckling her knees and backing her into the ropes all a-quiver. Claire squares away, gets her shoulder in Emily's chest then it's 1,2,3...1,2,3...1,2,3 the rest of the way. Holt staying close, keeping elbows in, head lowered, bashing away at the body, tapping the jugs, clipping the chin, bumping VanCamp off - systematic working over as the Champ slouches through another beating.

R6: Claire continues to make inroads. Emily fading back behind her jab, but keeps getting found by stiff right hands up top: Champ blocking the one-two, but Holt's follow-on left uppercut the answer as VanCamp's picked up pretty. Emily chin-checked repeatedly in second minute action, starts to loosen up: Claire scoring heavily to her foe's skull. In the final minute though, Holt gets drilled a vicious lead right, then hooked HARD to the chin - challenger steps in a fence post hole, eats a left uppercut and DROPS TO ALL FOURS! VanCamp glaring down in satisfaction: that got the knockdown back as she struts to neutral corner.

R7: Payback time, Emily catches Claire in the opening minute, sends her stomping back on her heels momentarily astonished - VANCAMP'S turn to pour it on at the ropes. Emily as strong, compact and efficient as Claire had been, bullying with a controlling shoulder, putting punches together up and down the torso in 3 punch patterns. VanCamp doubling up occasionally on a tidy hook to the breadbasket - Holt doesn't like it, issuing the fight's first clinches as she soaks to the bell. Both girls showing wear, both have been shocked, but there's no plan B: it's slug and be slugged under the broiling sun tonight.

R8: Claire’s eyes swelling to slits, lips all cracked and swollen, Emily battered beyond recognition, HER eyes swollen to slits, cheeks all puffy. Shopworn vixens shuffle mindlessly to midring--neither girl can pick her mitts up higher than waist level. VanCamp stepping gingerly to her right, lifting the jab off her hip and smudging it across Holt’s jugs. Claire can’t see the hand that prods her, pawing for Emily’s pestering left and pouting in outrage at the cheap jug being taken. RIGHT HAND HOLT! VanCamp can’t see it--punch just POUNDS into jaw, swiveling her skull--crowd screaming as Champ weeble-wobbles but won’t go down. Claire waves a right, missing--eats a right as Emily stumbles forward, but challenger drops a left-handed bomb of her own on target. VanCamp lifts the jab into Holt’s mouth, punching her head back; Claire drops a right cross onto Emily’s face, both fighters plodding forward, pushing out exhausted leather, VanCamp ducks down as Holt stumbles forward, straightening to lift a thick, gutting right deep into the cuddly swell of challenger’s breadbasket, folding her forward into a clammy embrace. Devastated Claire making a fish gulping gasp, Emily with her left arm riding around challenger’s ribs shoves another pumping right into tummy, dislodging Holt’s mouthpiece in a sad little tumble down VanCamp’s back. Both fighters crying senselessly now, clinching on reflex--ref pulls the girls apart and accidentally almost pushes them both down, so shaky are the legs left in this fight. Claire on instinct just wants to come forward, Emily waits for the tottering blonde and leans into a crashing right, smashing poor Holt’s face to the side and sidestepping as she crumples face-first into canvas. VanCamp swaying, dimly staring down at Claire’s back: challenger’s tear-damp cheek moist against the sand, it’s over. Concerned ref kneeling down to tend to KO’d Holt: VanCamp staggering away in a fog—limp-limbed as she’s tackled by her own stablemates in celebration. KO8 Last Woman Standing fashion for the Winner and STILL Bantamweight Champion, Emily VanCamp!

After: Elisha Cuthbert heartlessly taunts Claire with cries of “WE BEAT YOU BABIEEEE! YAH! WOO! YOU’RE SHABBY AND WE’RE PRETTY!” When the dust settles, Emily’s the champ and looking stronger than ever. “Great fight--I knew Claire would bring it,” VanCamp admits; swollen, tender features supporting her claims, “but I stopped that girl in her tracks tonight. She’s driving herself way too hard--I’ve been there, I know. She got into a brutal tussle with Shay - she just didn’t have enough left to go to the wall one more time with someone like me. We drew a line in the sand tonight and just said ‘enough’s enough.”
