Cat Bell vs Faith Hill

Before: No doubt about it - it's a tune up for Cat. Hill one of those better-than-you-expect blondes, but basically outgunned and maybe even outlegged in this fight - Bell the prohibitive favourite has to guard against complacency, but not much else. Hill flirting with danger in pre-fight - basically courteous, but refering to Cat as 'cupcake', setting Bell's teeth on edge for the dime to come. Bell in electric blue bikini, Faith in white bikini.

During R1: Hill moving right, doubles up on the jab drills the right cross and BELL IS HURT! Seconds in, the tap,tap - BANG rhythm rocks Cat and has her stagger stepping early. Faith not pressing the issue, spanks jabs, keeps up the circular movement to steer Bell most of the round. Cat shaking it off in the final minute works to the midsection with swinging lefts and rights, backing Faith up late.

R2: Shutout Cat Bell - much sharper, more alert Cat Bell this round, featuring more head movement and higher guard - Hill basically defensive, runs when she can clinch - Bell having to work for every scoring blow.

R3: Cat cutting off the ring, punishes blonde ribcage this round with tough strokes out of a tight guard - Cat snapping her fists back to her cheek after biting into the target, ready to punch. Hill standing flat footed, reaching with the left, trying to turn into the clipping right hand, but she's showing Bell too much respect to threaten the brunette.

R4: More two way action, but Bell the boss in every exchange. Hill covered up tight, laying in with Cat, shoeshining to the stomach or breasts on occasion, but not setting down on her punches. Contrast with Bell - every punch a hard snapping lick that thuds heavilly against body, visibly beating down Hill's resistance.

R5: Hill with the little step over to the right behind a double-tap jab and BANG! Right cross swivels Cat's head as Bell tilts forward over her feet. Faith stepping in, outside Cat's left shoulder, bending her back into a slinging right uppercut from the side and Bell's head bangs back for the highlight of the night. Cat wobbly butt, falls in to clinch - mistake from Hill as she accepts rather than pressing to finish. Bell able to recover as Faith lets her off the hook, and Cat mounts a patient attack with her head on Hill's shoulder, just curling and clubbing her fists inside to swab that flat tummy. Big round for Faith, should have been bigger as Bell gets out of it in good shape.

R6: Faith stumbling as she dances to her right - legs are feeling the effects of those body punches. Bell walking her girl down, dialing in from outside with right round punches to the waist, then bodying up to play her fists up and down the blonde's torso, finishing combinations with jarring short lefts or rights across the chin. Faith sitting ropeside for the final minute, just covering up and taking it to her sides as Cat breaks her down at last.

R7: Bell rolling Faith up - Hill in panicky retreat just runs out of ring - by the midway point, Bell is beating her methodically up against the ropes. Cat using her shoulder and left elbow to nudge Hill back, gets room for swiping left/rights inside, bouncing her fists off the solar plexus as Hill starts to droop. At the bell, Faith looks pale and shaky - dare we say Despairing.

R8: Crunching body punches crumple Faith forward and Bell piles on, pumping her right hand up into the trembling midriff while cradling Hill in the crook of her left arm. At the ropes, Cat opens up with good old fashioned shove and slug, working Hill to the body to set up clouting lefts or rights across the mouth that have Hill swooning. Bell swaying side to side as she pulls punches into her opponent - a final left hook helps Faith out of the fight as her head snaps hard to the side, then folds limply to her chest. Bell steps back to allow the blonde to melt to the canvas - KO8 Cat Bell.

After: As expected, except for the opportunistic power shown by Faith in the first and fifth - lack of pursuit may have cost Hill the upset. Bell staying sharp - most anticipate an imminent challenge of the much heavier handed Debbe Duning in the days to follow this victory.
