Before: “I understand you’ve won 12 fights in a row since 2016,” Anna Kendrick said to Danielle Campbell as they met for their pre-bout press conference.

“Yes, I have,” Dani said proudly, “and I understand you were Flyweight Champion last year—for a while anyway.”

“I have to say it is a tribute the number of young, inexperienced fighters around here that you were able to build up such an impressive record—on paper, anyway,” Anna said.

“They weren’t all ‘young and inexperienced fighters’—I beat Selena Gomez last time out,” DC said with some irritation.

“But a lot of them were,” Anna said, “just pointing that out. I do appreciate you and your managers thinking they could get some serious respect by fighting me.”

“You mean I won’t get any respect from fighting you? I think that’s a terrible thing for you to say about yourself,” Danielle said with what was clearly mock dismay.

“You are a smart-mouthed one, aren’t you? I like that in an opponent because it makes so much more satisfying when I humble them with ‘Anna’s Hard Punch of Reality’.” Anna replied.

“Wait’ll you meet the ‘DC Devastator’—my KO punch that end your night with a KA-POW!” Dani said gleefully.

“Get ready ‘cause ‘Anna’s A-Bomb’ is headed your way, kid and your winning streak will be history,” Anna cheerfully promised.

“I’m going to like fighting you,” DC said, “you’re as sassy as me.”

“Tell me that after I’ve left you sucking the canvas,” Anna replied, but added: “I do like sass and you do have a lot of it.”

Danielle smiled: “That’s not all people have said I have a lot of.”

Anna laughed: “I’ll just bet you have.”

Come fight night both fighters are in the ring looking eager and ready to go. Danielle has chosen a pink bikini top with black bottoms (DC across the back in pink). Small pink fighting boots with black laces, Pink gloves with black laces. Dani’s hair in a ponytail. Anna in her favorite royal blue two piece with the Diamond Boxing logo on the left hip. White gloves and small fighting boots with royal blue laces. Hair in ponytail Fighters are smiling, but eager to go, especially Dani who seems like a young thoroughbred eager for the next race. Ring instructions completed and fighters go to their corners. Pause. The bell rings.

R1: Danielle zips out of her corner and heads straight for Anna. Anna has her jab up and ready, but Dani just plows right on through. Anna doing damage as she scuffs up Dani’s face, but DC is getting her rapid-fire hooks into Anna, forcing her to give ground. Anna driving straight rights and lefts into Danielle’s chest and face. DC feeling those shots and backs up, but then circles around and comes right back at Anna. Now they are exchanging head shots and DC is smacking Anna to the jaw with repeated right while getting shots to the forehead in return. Dani then attacks Anna to the side of the head. These rights and lefts send shocks through Anna’s body and she drops back to regroup. DC following but gets a sharp jab to the mouth which makes her wary before coming in again. Brisk exchange to the body at the bell. A close round, but judges give it to Danielle Campbell,

R2: Anna asserts herself from the start of this round. She gives Dani a nasty whacking uppercut to the chin that sends the youngster scrambling back, blinking in confusion, Anna smoothly moving to encircle DC and keep her under punching pressure, varying her targets from the belly on up to the breasts with some lightning smacks to the face as the topper. Danielle looking flustered and covering up more than she is punching back. Anna cruises around Dani making her round miserable and enjoying every punch of it. Round ends with DC panting hard, sweat dripping down her body and a haggard look on her young face. Anna spits out mouthpiece and whispers:

“And it’s only been two rounds. It’ll just get worse.”

Danielle’s eyes go wide with shock, but then narrow as she spits out her own mouthpiece: “I haven’t even gotten started yet!”

“So I noticed,” Anna says and turns away. Danielle stomps her foot in frustration and marches back to her own stool.

R3: Danielle seething on her stool, especially as she can see Anna laughing and looking confident in her stool. It’s all Nia Peeples can do keep her charge under control, but the trainer still looks concerned as the bell sounds. Sure enough, DC goes charging recklessly across the ring as though determined to prove something to the older fighter. Anna seems to have expected this and keeps moving smoothly around DC while lumping her face up with repeated jabs even as she dodges Dani’s poorly aimed counters. Anna letting Danielle wear herself down, though it takes her over the half the round until DC starts slowing down. Then Anna goes to the offensive with a flurry of uppercuts to the chin that has Danielle falling back into the ropes with her arms flailing. Then a crushing right uppercut lifts Dani straight up as she’s leaning against the ropes AND DOWN GOES DANI! Danielle topples forward from the ropes and lands hard on her face. She lays sprawled there and raises her head to see Anna smiling down on her before departing for the neutral corner. Dani looks doomed—but, no, the kid shows her determination by rising first to all fours, then to her knees and finally making it to a standing position as the referee reaches “NINE!” Anna looks surprised to see Danielle up. Dani waves her in with defiance even as Nia Peeples can be heard screaming: “COVER UP! COVER UP!” Luckily for her, DC does hear her trainer’s cry and covers up which allows her survive the round, but she is a bruised and bleeding wreck as she gropes her way back to her corner. Anna watches her go and shakes her head, then turns back to her own corner.

R4: Danielle gets a stern talking-to from Nia Peeples during break, DC listens with quivering lower lip and tears in her eyes. She hangs her head. At the end of the tirade, Nia hugs her fighter whi breaks into a relieved smile and then the bell rings, DC goes back into action. Danielle now much more cool and collected as she faces off against Anna Kendrick. Anna not finding the easy shots this round and she getting some increasingly nasty counters, especially to the chin and jaw from a more accurate DC. Both fighters showing some nice footwork as they duel, but Anna is able to get DC off balance more than once and stuff a strong, deep hook into her belly. Dani not quite so willing to take punishment this round, drops back and looks for her own openings, but Anna’s not giving her much. They punch away steadily to the bell. Anna wins the round, but by a much closer margin this time.

R5: Danielle and Anna both out briskly this round, but DC is moving with a certain deliberation and strikes first with nasty straight right to the breast of Anna Kendrick. Anna looks startled and suddenly DC is giving her an all-out jugg-mugging breast beatdown. Anna jabs back frantically as she tries to protect her unexpected pounded puppies. DC really going at it, but then shifts to hammering Anna’s stomach. Anna again is surprised and doubles with a gurgle of pain. DC is working hard and forcing the overwhelmed Anna back towards the ropes. Anna trying to fight her way passed Dani to avoid the strands, but in the process her defenses are wide open. Danielle leaps up with a crashing right uppercut under the chin. Anna caught flush, she is flung into the ropes, bounces off and into the ol’ left hook/right cross to the jaw. Anna lurches off to one side and then FALLS TO HER KNEES! DC heads for the neutral corner, but makes sure the stricken Anna sees her go. Anna on one knee, breathing hard and trying to pull herself together as the referee is counting. Anna waits and then rises at “EIGHT!” Danielle comes back in, but Anna is on the defensive and holds the younger fighter off to the bell. Knockdown assures Danielle a wide win on points this round. She spits out her mouthpiece.

“I told you I hadn’t begun to fight yet!” Danielle points out.

“I’m still standing,” Anna growls after removing her own mouthpiece.

“Not for much longer,” DC says with infuriating assurance and strolls away. Now it is Anna Kendrick’s turn to stamp her foot in frustration.

R6: DBC corner now very busy getting Anna repaired for the next round. Anna slow off her stool and as she moves out to meet Danielle, DC circling slowly at first as though choosing her target. Anna seems grow irritated at this and moves to swing at DC;s head with the right. Dani ducks under the incoming and brings her own right with all the power she can muster into Anna’s jaw. Anna’s head is jerked around and then a left uppercut from Dani finds Anna’s chin. Anna stumbles backwards as her legs give out. She lands on her bottom with a THUD and then she just swoons onto her back with her arms outflung. DC stands there drinking in the sight before heading for the neutral corner. Referee moves in and starts counting. Anna raising her head, but it comes right back down. It’s clear she’s done before the formality of the referee counting “TEN! YOU’RE OUT!”

THE WINNER DANIELLE CAMPBELL DEFEATS ANNA KENDRICK KO6!

After: Danielle Campbell gives out a whoop of victory. PLP teammates Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson and Sasha Pieterse clikmb in the ring to celebrate. Dani takes time to go over to the DBC corner to check on Anna Kendrick., Anna has been revived and is being comsold by teammate Bree Larson.

“Sorry I got a little mouthy with you,” Danielle says to Anna, “well, okay, I got a LOT mouthy with you, but I really do respect you Anna and it made me nervous to fight you. I tend to get a little ‘colorful’ when I’m nervous. Please accept my apology.”

Anna smiled: “I was pretty mouthy myself. So you don’t have to apologize. Trash talking is oart of the game, I promise I didn’t take it personally—well, not too personally.”

Anna and Dani laugh and share a hug. “You should have heard Nia burn my ears after you got me mad and I nearly lost the fight in the 3rd. I needed that. I almost didn’t make it up and then you’d have had me.”

“But I didn’t and that is boxing. Just remember: there is a fighter out there who will beat you. Don’t let it get to you, just move on and beat the next girl you face,” Anna advised.

“You applying for a coaching job with us because you;’ve got my vote,” Dani said.

“Not any time soon, but I like to think I know talent and I think you’ve got enough to go far. You do need to fight smarter or R3 won’t have a happy ending next time,” Anna said,

“I will remember that,:” Dani promised and shared another hug with Anna, then she headed back to her own side of the ring.

Quite a night for flyweight fans. It looked like young DC had met her match in the wily Anna K, but Campbell managed to survive her own mistakes to come back and win it. Should be a notable win for Ms, Campbell as she moves another step upward in the Flyweight division. Not that bad a setback for Anna Kendrick and might open up a new career angle as she could become a gatekeeper of sorts for young flyweights on the rise. You get pass Anna K you just might have what it takes to be a serious contender. If you don’t—well, there is always cruise ship boxing. In any case a most enjoyable bout for flyweight fans.
