Elodie Frege vs. Lea Seydoux

BEFORE:

Battle of two of the best French bantams in the world. Both have won titles in the BBU, and, while Seydoux's had more success in the FCBA, Elodie's collected some impressive scalps in her time on the western side of the pond. And, neither lady lacks confidence coming into this one.

"She is very good," says Frege with a nod. "I know this, as I see her every day. But, I am better, and this I will prove."

"Elodie is a challenge for anyone," says Lea. "She's very skilled. But, I am stronger and better, and I'm going to defeat her."

ROUND ONE:

Seydoux out aggressively as usual. Blonde after Elodie immediately, and Frege quickly retreats into the pocket, where Lea begins the siege. Which, of course, is exactly what Frege WANTS her to do. Blonde looking to get hard shot on target and she's throwing a lot of leather. Problem is, for every punch she lands, Elodie slips or blocks multiple shots, and, each and every punch opens Lea up to the hard, accurate counters at which Frege excels. Results are predictable. Elodie quickly gains the advantage, the points and damage she's scoring in counter adding up much more quickly than what Lea can accomplish fighting lead. Late in the round, Frege catches the blonde with a solid flurry that backs her up. Lea covers up and Frege steps forward off the ropes to finish the round with a nasty combination that seals a wide victory for the older woman in the first.

ROUND TWO:

Seydoux backing off the gas pedal to start the second. She's still looking to fight lead, but she's not coming forward now, instead setting up at range and looking to box with. And, that ALSO suits Elodie just fine. Frege's an excellent boxer in her own right, as she's proven time again in the FCBA and the BBU. Result is, if you're a purist, one of the best, prettiest rounds of the entire pay-per-view. This is slick boxing at its best, with both French beauties moving the feet, hands and head, using jabs to set up right hands and follow on with combinations, feinting, dipping, slipping, ducking, blocking, all in service of creating openings for accurate fire. And, as both ladies are plenty good at this, both score well and often despite the excellent defense. There's not much in it at all, from opening seconds to closing bell, but, when the bell rings, it's Lea who's taken it, by the slimmest of margins, to even the fight at 19.

ROUND THREE:

More of the same, as both fighters are now comfortable where they find themselves, boxing at mid-ring. And, while both are able to get a lot done, just like in the last round, neither is able to grab control of the round. Instead, it's a steady back-and-forth, a Frege flurry followed by a Seydoux flurry, a good right hand from Lea followed by a good right hand from Elodie. Just like in the previous round, there's a lot for purists to love, but, this stanza is even more entertaining for fans, because there are more solid shots landing. Both ladies have the head snapped back multiple times during the three minutes, though neither is ever hurt. And, both find themselves backed up a step more than once. And, once again, there's almost nothing in it the entire way, leading both women to turn up the volume in the final seconds trying to grab the points. Once again, though, it's Lea who does so by a cat's whisker, and Seydoux now leads 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Lea getting a bit more aggressive, and Elodie responds by getting into the pocket again. Seydoux not going to play the "all-in" game this time, though. Instead, she attacks much more carefully, working harder to set up punches, limiting Elodie's opportunities for sharp counters. Problem is, Frege is one of the better counter-punchers in the FCBA, so, even with limited opportunities, she still does damage, scoring well enough to keep the round even for the first half. Then. BOOM! A perfectly-placed right hand counter and LEA IS HURT! Blonde steppin' in fence post holes! Frege explodes off the ropes, letting the hands go, determined now to finish this thing. Seydoux driven before her stablemate, trapped on the ropes and SAVAGED as Elodie sits down on barrage after barrage of accurate fire. Lea's in deep trouble in the final 30 seconds, and the only question more pressing than what's holding her up is what's holding the referee off. Something does both, however, and the bell, mercifully, sounds with Lea still standing. It's Frege wide, though, and we're even again at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Elodie pressing forward now. Seydoux's legs are more than a little wobbly, and the older woman is determined to take full advantage. Frege so slick, so accurate, setting up punches beautifully, keeping Seydoux on the back foot, keeping her in retreat. Blonde tries again and again to solidify her front, slow Elodie's offensive, but she can't get it done. Instead, Frege keeps on rolling, keeps on piling up points and then GETS ROCKED! Out of nowhere comes a right hand counter from Lea and now it's Elodie stumbling around the ring! Seydoux quickly pounces, letting her stablemate have it with both barrels. Frege covering up in the center of the ring, shaken by punch after punch until, finally, DOWN GOES ELODIE! Frege simply crumples to her right side, the weight of shot proving too much. Lea's to a neutral corner to watch and wait. Elodie manages only to roll to her belly. She can do no more before the count passes her by. It's OVER! And your winner by KO5 is Lea Seydoux!

AFTER:

Seydoux over to check on her opponent. Frege helped off the stool for a hug with her stablemate. Lea plenty respectful in the post-fight, while making no secret of her ultimate goal. "We are friends," says the blonde, "And, I did not enjoy fighting her or beating her. It would have been so much more enjoyable had the opponent been someone else. Emily VanCamp, for instance."
