Before: One of the biggest wins of Katy’s Career and one of the biggest losses of Yvonne’s was undoubtedly their meeting at the end of 2014 where Perry stopped a potentially historic run with the lightweight title by Strahovski. Here we are again with the lightweight title and there is a lot of tension swirling around in the area. A potential move to welterweight for Katy Perry, regardless of the outcome for this match and of course, the oddsmakers are having quite a night taking bets on whether lightning can strike twice for Katy. Yvonne, of course, is hoping not.

“I don’t know what my stable is going to decide about welterweight, but I can tell you that is not what I’m thinking about tonight. I’d like to get back the lightweight title back and better yet, I’d love to take down Yvonne when I do. Beating her last time was one of the best nights of my career and was just as amazing as singing my heart out in a sold-out arena. I’ve seen what Yvonne has done to girls in my stable, like Anna Torv who I honestly believe is better than her, but I know I’m better than Vonnie too. Just got to prove it again tonight. The fans are going to ROAR and so am I.” Katy says with confidence and conviction.

Yvonne smiling back just as confidently, “I don’t know what is going to happen with Katy in the future, but I do what’s going to happen tonight. I’m going to kick her ass, of course. I’ve said all along she has welterweight power, though personally, I’d love to keep her here so I can keep beating her up.” Strahovki sticks out her tongue at this comment, beaming, “But, tonight, if she wants to see what real power is like in this division, I’m going to show her why I’m the champ. I am not going to lose the lightweight title. Not tonight and not to her.”

Katy wearing a dark blue one-piece bikini with matching gloves and short hair around her face - Yvonne clad in a hunter green bikini with matching gloves and blonde hair in a fighting ponytail. Both fighters tough gloves respectfully, but bump against one another as they’re separating indicating a tough fight ahead between the two of them.

R1: Katy circles left - taking a look-see, Yvonne secedes to work - punching her jab to Katy’s upperchest, crossing the right hand smoothly up top. Blonde turning into her right with her torso, getting the shoulder behind it, twisting the fist: Perry leaning away, gauging the power. Second minute sees Yvonne step over to cut off the ring - rewards herself with a thumping right/left solid against Katy’s firm tummy. Perry frowning, covering up earmuff: Strahovski scrapes a right uppercut against the guard, then lashes a lanky hook to Katy’s right ear. Final minute - Katy no longer scouting the terrain - she’s actually backpedalling: Yvonne stepping up the pace, driving on Katy here. Strahovski shows the jab up top, occupying Katy’s gloves high; blonde dives in, pounding a straight right down against the Perry midsection. Instant jerking reaction from Katy - elbows shoot down, torso dips forward, distressed face tilts up as she chokes back a cry of hurt. Brunette backs into ropes in trouble - bell sounds to prevent any Strahovski follow up. Yvonne grinning, pumping her trusty right hand en route to her corner.

R2: Perry seen enough - takes midring with a confident, ramrod jab. Strahovski’s face spanked as her hands are stacked low - she forms earmuff, tucking her chin, starting to bob and weave the Perry stick. Perry motoring to her left - nice easy long-legged pivots sweeping her around the ring: Strahovski turning, keeping her right leg well back, bending forward at the waist. Perry drops right hands off the jab - blocked by Yvonne; Katy coming back a thick, whacking hook takes Strahovski in her side with authority. Perry vocal: she’ll ring a hook off blonde bod, then shout taunts right into Strahovski’s face. Down the stretch, Yvonne firms - forcing her jab through to Katy’s chest, and trading right hands as both girls score to the mouth. Crowd-pleasing free-for-all at the bell - both girls snarling, swinging away until ref jumps in. Katy’s round and wide.

R3: Good thumping, big-girl two way. Both girls settling down - walking into range, organizing their guards, then going flat footed to generate meaningful leverage. Girls taking turns getting off as the other covers up: Perry testing the Strahovski midsection with a lanky, clapping hook, then trying to penetrate the guard with short right hands, Strahovski answering to Katy’s midsection with thumping right/lefts: long blonde leaning in close, lapping the punches against Katy’s waist with supple, long-limbed licks. Both pivot left in wide stances - nice and relaxed - long, loping gaits moving the girls around with grace. Perry ups tempo in the final minute - veteran knows how to close out a round strong, simply outworking Yvonne for the points. “Check her, ref,” Katy says within earshot of Yvonne, “She’s hurt.”

R4: Strahovski doubles up the jab, forcing Perry backwards, then blonde strides in, dragging a big slinging right sidearm into Katy’s midsection CHUP!. Perry grunting, immediately clinching around Yvonne’s neck: Strahovski able to lap away underneath until ref’s break. Yvonne quick with the jab, lifting it off her hip and sticking it hard to Katy’s chest; blonde twisting into her right cross, pasting Perry across the lips. Katy hits ropes - covers up earmuff: Strahovski strides-to, lashes a strapping hook across the waist, dips her right shoulder down, then hoists a THICK right hand up into Katy’s breadbasket. Woof of pain, Katy Perry - she clinches around blonde ribs, mouth open on Yvonne’s lightly tanned shoulder as Strahovski bodies her brunette into the ropes. Ref’s break pushes YS back, but she’s aggressively in once again, jabbing at Katy’s tender middle. Perry snarling, slashes a vicious counter hook off the ropes, taking Yvonne to temple: BRAWL! Strahovski in wide, almost parallel stance - she’s bending forward, then twisting side to side, lashing huge, sweeping right and left overhands onto Katy’s head and shoulder. Perry rocked, but dug in well: she’s trying to punch-with, sweeping her own long-armed haymakers onto Yvonne with a similar dip-and-loop delivery. Strahovski getting the better of it - both hands scoring to either side of Katy’s jaw as Perry mostly misses over top. Bell: chests heaving, eye blazing - ref has to move in as Yvonne’s getting up in Katy’s grill. “CHECK HER, REF! WHO IS HURT NOW?” Strahovski shouts, right into Katy’s grimacing face.

R5: Katy trying to restore a little order - boxing behind her jab midring. After a minute, Strahovski collapses Katy’s jab, crowding in on brunette with designs on Perry midsection, Yvonne leaning her chin out over Katy’s right shoulder, then dragging heavy, limber blows up into gut and ribs. Yvonne relaxed, supple underneath - hauling the punches in with sexy rolling-shoulder action, then palming Katy’s hips to stabilize her/keep her in position. Perry grimacing - she’s trying to shoulder Yvonne off, then rebuke her with uppercuts, Katy’s connecting, but not discouraging Yvonne; blonde keeps crowding and crashing the tummy. Down the stretch, Perry’s back to the ropes - she clinches - face wincing and looking cranky as she can’t get out from under insistent Strahovski pressure. “Holding me, ref!” Perry pants - referring to Yvonne’s aggressive palming of the ribs and hips throughout the round.

R6: Katy grimacing, shying away: she’s hurt to the body; Yvonne sees it. Strahovski stalking - staying in touch with the jab, then leaning in with big right hands, pulverizing away straight, sloping shots to the ribcage. Katy driven around the ring by thumping impacts - her hands creeping down to protect her midsection: Yvonne alters trajectory on the slinging crosses, now aiming for chin. Katy caught and drilled on occasion - head tossing to the side, knees buckling: she’s a wounded beauty, just trying to leg out the round. Yvonne starts barking at her foe, but Perry keeping her distance, restricting Strahovski to one power shot at a time - but blonde walking her brunette down, chipping away at her - Yvonne bangs out the shutout, leaves Katy weak in the knees through 6. At the break, Yvonne stands grinning - hands on hips - chatting it up with ringsiders as Katy steadies herself with hand on the top rope, looking shabby.

R7: Strahovski upbeat, grinning: Katy morose, scowling. Again, Katy shies away, moving to her right. Strahovski stalks her, hopping forward and slinging limber right hands at throbbing brunette ribs. “OH, you like that, right?” Strahovski taunts after welting big to the body: Katy grimacing, moving away, Midway through, Yvonne leans in, bounces a vicious right hand straight off Katy’s sternum - driving brunette into ropes. Perry gurgling in gut-shot agony - she crosses her arms against her midsection, tilting to her right. Strahovski jabs Katy’s shoulder and cheek - prompting Perry to lean upright against the ropes, Sweeping right hand chaser - Yvonne just leaning in and down, pulling it over the top: punch smashes across Katy’s chin, swiveling her head as blonde fist follows through to her own left hip. Perry’s long upper body drifts over top rope, then crashes forward and KATY GOES DOWN! Perry on her face, her arms crossed underneath her - it’s OVER! KO7 in spectacular fashion - Yvonne Strahovski.

AFTER: A tough, hard-hitting and occasionally bitter back and forth bout tonight for the lightweight title - not that you would expect anything less between two of the best lightweights in the league. Quite a match between the two and the crowd is certainly roaring its approval, not quite in the way that Katy might’ve hoped.

Yvonne walks over to a still dazed Perry, leaning down to help her up and an anxious Front Street Staff watches as they prepare for a Walk of Shame or something similar. Yvonne instead envelops her foe in a hug, the two of them whispering towards one another before Strahovski leads her to the middle of the ring. Strahovski raises her foe’s hand and beams, while Katy looks a little embarrassed at first but after listening to the crowd, can’t help smiling either. Perry then heads out of the ring while Yvonne is handed the lightweight title - holding it above her head and just flexing. Yvonne is bruised, but grinning as she shows off the gold.

Addressing the press afterward, “Like I said, I don’t know what Katy will do next, but with that kind of power and talent, she can do anything she wants to do. Except, of course, take the lightweight title from me. I respect her - she’s one of the best members of Front Street. I actually even like her, unlike Anna Torv, who is one of the most arrogant Aussie’s I’ve ever met.” Yvonne shakes her head thinking about Anna for a moment, “But, if you’re going to be arrogant, you’ve got to back it up, which I do. Each and every time I step into the ring, I prove why I’m the best lightweight on the planet. I can’t wait to prove it again soon!”

Who knows what will happen in the future for Katy or Yvonne, but after a match like this, fans can’t wait to find out! Finding out what Katy will do next, finding out who Yvonne will take on next and what either fighter will do in the future is going to be very exciting for everybody involved and after a match like tonight, who can blame them for wanting to find out what is in store for either fighter?
