Results: Lookout!; Story: Caspian & The Dollhouse

BEFORE:
"It’s quite a night for me.” Lauren opens up at the pre-fight press conference. “I know I haven’t been doing well so far and I REALLY don't wanna go 0-4, not to mention getting knocked out again…” the brunette wincing at the thought the moment it escapes her mouth. “Eh.... it's not fun. But…” she laughs, quickly back to her contagious smile. “I’ve been working my ass off and my team did an awesome job to make sure I'm ready for Tatiana tonight. I'm feeling pretty good and I'm hoping tonight is gonna be my night, I want to celebrate!."

Good news for Lauren is that her opponent, Tatiana Maslany, also suffers from the same affliction she has - standing 4 inches taller and two years older, the Lookout starlet ALSO struggling to secure that first breakthrough win of her career, with a record of 0-2 not in her favour. Naturally, she has some similar comments for reporters:

“As you can tell, we both have a lot riding on the outcome of this fight. One thing good though is - and I mean this sincerely - ONE of us will have broken our losing streaks by the end of tonight. If it’s Lauren who manages this, then I congratulate her from the bottom of my heart. But of course, I’m hoping that it’s going to be me,” the Canadian actress concluding with a wink and laugh.

Lauren modest, cute, quiet, quirky - those are the words used by her fans to describe the Scottish beauty. Definitely not words used when you’re describing a prized fighter in the ring, however, and the little Scot having trouble lately (in her brief career) at finding wins for herself. Tonight though, as she skips out from backstage down the ramp, wearing her regular old pink sports bra and black tights, waving her matching gloves cheerfully to her fans on either side, her tight ponytail dangling along behind her, she hopes to finally change her fortune. Lauren settles in her corner, getting some important last moment instructions from head trainer Kristanna Loken as Tatiana’s turn to make an entrance comes.

Tatiana bursts through the curtains clad in a gorgeous dark blue bikini and matching gloves, her hair in a high ponytail. She strikes a pose, a huge lovely grin on her face as she starts making her way to the ring, waving in all directions.

Moments later, we’re in the ring, and both girls are ready to square off to claim their elusive prize. Both girls meet in the center of the ring, smiling, happily touching gloves. A rare sight at the Doll Ball for sure. Referee finally waves his arms and no more time for courtesies. Here we go with ten rounds of Flyweight action!

ROUND 1:
Lauren showing off what she’s learnt in the ring these past few months - she’s proving to be every bit the technical and defensive fighter, perhaps in the same league as other more experienced girls. Defensive fighting plays right to her strengths: she’s circling her opponent sideways rather than charging head-on, Tatiana looking nervous and uncertain by comparison at not doing her homework earlier. Lauren waiting for her to advance on her before slowly picking her off when she least expects it: a jab to the face here, a swing to the body there, letting Tatiana’s own mistakes come back to bite her on her cute ass. Tatiana not liking this one bit but has little option once the three minutes of trial and error are up. Hopefully she can rebound in the next few rounds.

ROUND 2:
And rebound she certainly does - it took only about the duration of one round for Tatiana to wise up to Lauren’s tactics. Now, she’s mirroring the Scot’s movements, playing it conservative and smart as well by hanging back and not brazenly feeding the lion. Stalemate thus results in the first minute when both girls shooting jabs from afar but not hitting many targets. It does wonders to f*ck with Lauren’s mindset, however, confusing her with Tatiana’s abrupt change in strategy. How’s she gonna adapt to this? Final minute has her breaking ranks and advancing, and unfortunately becomes on the receiving end of her own abuse like in the previous round. Maslany sticking her glove into her pixie face with every step forward, blowing away whatever lead she accrued thus far.

ROUND 3:
Girls are even in points and what they say really does ring true: it’s only in the third do you get a real sense of who has what it takes to make it all the way to the tenth. Lauren forced to adapt to survive, and perhaps that’s been her downfall for the past few matches - she’s unable to utilise her own strengths to beat tougher, bigger opponents. She succeeds in the first half at least by increasing her speed to run circles around Tatiana, scooting and scoring, then fleeting and flinging, frustrating Maslany as she just can’t keep up with the Scot’s energy. However, towards the end, Lauren gets caught with a big hook that lands on her forearms, pushing her backwards and slightly off balance. Tatiana rushing in to capitalize immediately, scoring a few more blows off of her guard, spanking the body before Lauren manages to evacuate herself from the hot pocket. Lauren’s round still, but that last flurry might do more permanent damage if she isn’t careful next time...

ROUND 4:
Tatiana regaining her confidence, a sly smile on her face as she advances, knowing she just needs to get lucky with a few choice hooks to Lauren’s face to end this fight. Hell, that’s how Lauren ended up on the floor the last few times anyways. Mayberry knows this as well, deciding to hang and fall back on her earlier skills that won her the first round by keeping her distance and punching only when punched at. And it works - Tatiana too fixated on scoring that knockdown as the counter-jabs start taking their toll on her nose and lips repeatedly. A particularly hard cross form Mayberry STUNS her in the third minute - AND there she does, stumbling backwards in trouble! Mayberry CHARGING, perhaps recklessly, looking to keep up the numbers! More punches to her foe’s sternum and then a right uppercut FLINGS her head back! DOWN MASLANY GOES! FLAT ON HER BACK!! IT’S A KNOCKDOWN for Lauren Mayberry!!

What a score for the Scot! She’s on cloud nine as she leaps into the air with both arms already fully rejoicing. A textbook flurry combination ending in that uppercut was perfectly executed and no doubt that Mayberry’s risk paid off big time. Now she’s back in neutral corner, nodding at similar congratulations from her trainers, but hang on a second, madam - she hasn’t won just yet. Maslany on her way back up, slowly but surely, groaning as she pulls herself back up to the ropes by the count of 8. She’s still groggy, but at least she’s alive. BIG round for Lauren, that’s for sure. But the concerned look on her face at the sight of her opponent standing back up might hint at things to come. Let’s see if she can cross the finish line?

ROUND 5:
Mayberry with a CHARGE at her opponent at the bell, looking to finish this! Tatiana absorbing the blows with her first steps out of corner, both arms thoroughly covering her head to weather. The Canadian takes a beating on her tummy but truth be told the smaller Scot not doing much damage besides carbon scarring as she punts her little hands in and out. Mayberry still looking confident however as she flails away at the body, DOESN’T see that left hook coming at her own head until it’s too late - BLAMM - Oh my word! That one hook STUNS her on the spot, stumbling her to one side! Lauren finding out the hard way that her opponent isn’t quite done just yet - now she’s the one in trouble, getting walked back across the ring with powerful blows buffeting her small body about, pushing her backwards each time a hook grazes her arms or bangs off the side of her head. Tatiana growling, face filled with tepid concentration as she just steps forward and fires, picking and choosing deliberate shots to break the weaker girl’s guard apart for good. A fifth hook to the bruised arms finally DOES THE TRICK - Lauren groaning as her face punted clear to one side, then the other, as a pair of quick swipes from Tatiana makes her eat leather and like it. The poor Scot finally EATS an uppercut of her own design up into the jawline, goes FLYING OFF HER FEET and back to the ground with a loud THUDD! It’s a payback KNOCKDOWN for Tatiana Maslany, folks!!

Hell yeah, the fans seem to chant, at this amount of action usually reserved for the main event or what not. Tatiana breathing heavily as she raises a glove to the crowd before congregating back in corner to recover. Lauren however is still flat on her back, mewing. Even at the count of 6, she’s rocking her lithe body left and right, back and forth, trying her best to get off her back, but it’s too much for her. She doesn’t make it past all fours when the referee finally and mercifully hits the 10-count! Unfortunately, this battle’s over for her!

Official Decision: Tatiana Maslany defeats Lauren Mayberry via KO5!

AFTER:
True to her word, Tatiana is the first one to check on Lauren after the decision is made official, bending down to help the smaller girl back up to her feet, then giving her a consolation hug and some words of encouragement in one ear.
For one girl, her losing streak is finally over. For the other, sadly it looks set to continue for the near future. Both girls equally moved for this fact, and Tatiana finally surrenders Lauren to the medics and begins her own journey to sustain this win.

Lauren trying her best to hold back tears as she’s escorted out of the arena by her squadmates and trainers. Just what does this spritely girl have to do before she’s rewarded a win for her efforts? Every Dollhouse fan thinking the same question, no doubt, and we wish her the best of luck in her future fights. You’d never know - maybe the fifth time’s the charm?
