MELISSA BENOIST VS ASHLEY GREENE

Melissa: 29 YO, 5’8 (1.73 m), 5-5-0, 5 KO since 2015, Pretty Little Punchers

Ashley: 31 YO, 5’5 (1.65 m), 18-16-0, 17 KO since 2010, Odds ‘n Ends Fight Studio

Before: “I am just looking for a good fight to erase the bad taste of losing to Emily VanCamp,” Ashley Greene told the press at the pre-fight publicity meeting. “I’ve had some success against PLP boxers. I beat Leah Pipes when she was still with them, but I lost to Shay Mitchell. Maybe I do better against ‘secondary’ PLPs.”

Ashley says this last with a smile, though Melissa doesn’t seem to find it amusing. “I have that loss to Lili Reinhart to erase myself. I very motivated for this fight.” Melissa says seriously.

Ashley doesn’t seem inclined to pick a fight. She just smiles and says: “See you at the fight—and try smiling a little—you better look when you smile.”

Melissa’s lips twitch and she breaks into a smile. Ashley pats on her shoulder: “I knew you could do it. Train hard. I know I will.”

Looking confused Melissa just nods and says: “Yes, see you there—and don’t worry I always train hard.”

“Better be harder than you did for Lili—of course, I would then be the one to benefit—so maybe you shouldn’t,” Ashley said cheerfully.

“I had no idea I was dealing with a comedienne,” Melissa said smiling broadly now.

“Helps get me through post-fights like the one with VanCamp. Beats crying or breaking things—and I’ve tried both,” Ashley said.

Melissa burst out laughing and gave Ashley a hug: “I will still be trying to beat you down, but you do know how to make me laugh.”

“Tell me that after the fight and we’ll see who agrees,” Ashley and strolled away.

The two young women next met in the ring. Melissa was in a royal blue bikini with black boots and gloves (blue laces) her hair in a double pigtail. Ashley was in a black bikini with white boots and gloves (black laces). Her blonde hair was pulled back in a tight battle braid. Both fighters were calm and collected, but then Ashley started smiling and kept smiling until she could get Melissa to smile. The referee looks exasperated.

“If you two are done, then how about we get on to the boxing?”

Melissa and Ashley solemnly nodded, but some ringsiders swore they heard a giggle when they tapped gloves. Then they departed for their corners to await the bell. It rang.

R1: Melissa moving rapidly circles around the in-coming Ashley and pumps quick rights into her jaw. Then, as Ashley backs up, Melissa goes to the belly with raking lefts and rights. Ashley doubled up and Melissa then goes for uppercuts up into Ashley’s face. However Ashley has her gloves up around her face to block Melissa’s uppies and then she fires a surprise counter uppie into Melissa’s face to send the blonde stumbling back. However, Melissa quickly recovers and comes back at Ashley and there is a blazing exchange of head shots. Braids and pigtails go flying as heads are jerked around by the impacts, but then Melissa catches Ashly with a solid uppercut on the chin. Ashley goes wobbly and retreats as Melissa advances. Ashley protecting her head, so Melissa goes to the body with hooks to the belly and adds some swipes to the juggs as well. Ashley backing up, but manages to use her footwork to evade getting driven into the ropes. Round ends as Melissa is back to working body—including more jugg banging. Round ends and Ashley is not looking pleased at having her hooters honked like that. She attempts to remonstrate with Melissa, but referee breaks it off. Melissa sort of shrugs and walks away, but Ashley’s scowling. Looks like nobody is giggling now.

R2: Ashley makes her displeasure clear to Melissa with a furious jugg attack to start off the new round. Ashley sets it up with a couple of quick shots to the point of Melissa’s chin to freeze the blonde. Then it’s a lashing attack on the Benoist boobs as Ashley rips them from side to side with rights and lefts. Next she switched to uppercuts to the undersides of Melissa’s bra cups. Melissa just starring in shock, arms raised, but not actually moving to counter. Ashly grinning nastily as she finishes her juggmugging bombardment with straight rights and lefts to crush the bra cups against Melissa’s ribcage. Finishing touch is another uppie to the chin. This punch brings Melissa out of her apparent paralysis and she unleashes a shower of jabs. Ashley pulls back out of range and Melissa comes after her with a vengeful look. Ashley trying to keep Melissa at a distance and dodge as many of Melissa’s punches as can. The O & E fighter doing a good job of frustrating the PLP fighter as Melissa can’t get the kind of power on Ashley as she plainly wants. Rounds ends in a wide win for Ashley Greene. Melissa now the one scowling as she cradles her aching chest as Ashley now is the one who shrugs and turns away.

R3: Melissa glaring across the ring at Ashley while PLP trainer Nia Peeples is trying to keep her calm and focused. Ashley making a show of ignoring Melissa, while actually watching out of the corner of her eye. O &E trainer Kelly Carlson offering quiet advice. Bell rings. Melissa charging out of her corner and making right for Ashley, but Ashley suddenly become elusive, using her footwork to make Melissa chase her. Melissa starts making wild swings as Ashley grins at her in an infuriating fashion. Ashley ducks as a right and then a left blockbuster sails over her head and suddenly Ashley comes roaring out of her crouch with a crushing right uppercut under the chin. Melissa Benoist is rocked by the blow and goes pinwheeling back, arms waving. She crashes into the ropes and takes a seat to avoid going down. Then Ashley Greene is upon Melissa smashing her head from right to left with powerful shots. Melissa going face in gloves to protect her head, but Ashley now ramming hard hooks into Melissa’s belly and breasts. Melissa writhing under this bombardment finally throws her arms around Ashley is a clinch that is more like a bear hug. Referee has to pry them apart. Melissa covers up and just tries to put distance between herself and Ashley, but Ashley keeps up the pressure with steady punching to head and sides. Melissa wobbling, but somehow stays up to the bell. Dazed look on Melissa’s swollen face as she totters off to her corner. Ashley can’t resist giving her a “friendly” pat on the butt. Melissa doesn’t seem to notice. Ashley sighs in disappointment, then turns away.

R4: Melissa very much on the defensive this round and seems to content to just retreat behind her jab. Ashley trying to work her way around to cut off Melissa’s retreat while punching away steadily. Melissa under pressure, countering with the jab, but maintaining her defenses and keeping Ashley from landing a knockdown blow. Ashley just keeps Melissa bottled up and pills up the points. Round goes to Ashley Greene by a wide margin, though Melissa did show some signs of life this stanza. Melissa gives Ashley a cold look before turning on her heel. Ashley reaches out to try that pat on the butt again. This time Melissa whirls around with her right arm pulled back ready to punch, but referee jumps in and lectures Ashley. Melissa seems to enjoy the annoyed look on Ashley’s face as she is reprimanded.

R5: Break between rounds was rather quiet, though Melissa Benoist seems much calmer and focused. Ashley Greene still pretending to ignore Melissa. Bell rings and suddenly Melissa comes racing out for her corner, but it not like her disastrous R3 charge: no wild, telegraphed blockbusters. Instead Melissa hooks Ashley to the belly with such force that Ashley goes up on her toes as she doubles up. Then Melissa goes for the chin and sends Ashley stumbling backwards with her arms flailing. Melissa then hammers Ashley’s breasts as she drives her into the ropes. Melissa trying to pin Ashley back with her left forearm across the collarbone while using her right the pound Ashley’s puppies! Referee has to pull Melissa away, but there is fire in the blonde’s eyes as she goes after the beleaguered Ashley once again. Ashley being driven along the ropes, covering her head while Melissa smacks her hard to the sides and belly. Ashley just looking for an escape from the leather storm, but Melissa drives her onto the ropes again. This time Ashley is sitting on the ropes, face in gloves and trying to clinch, but Melissa jumping back to avoid the clinch before going at Ashley again. Long, agonizing round for Ashley Greene, but it finally ends and she clings to the top rope before turning to go to her corner. Melissa standing there, gloved hands on hips, clearly surveying the damage she’s just done and it is clear she likes what she sees. Finally, Melissa goes to her own corner. Now Melissa Benoist has a shutout round on her side of the card.

R6: Ashley not looking so good as she comes out for the new round. She’s moving sluggishly as she takes a defensive stance. Melissa continues to look fired-up, but she is determined, not reckless as she starts punching away at the buttoned-up Ashley. Ashley trying to protect her head, but Melissa then goes on an all-out attack to the midsection with a storm of hard hooks. Ashley’s legs trembling as she bends forward with a gurgling groan. Her high guard is pierced as Melissa powers her punches between Ashley’s gloves and into her chin. Ashley hit again and again to the chin, Her knees buckle and she starts to topple forward. Melissa brings more uppercuts crashing into Ashley’s jaw as her defenses collapse. ASHLEY GREENE SLUMPS TO HER KNEES AND THEN PITCHES FORWARD! SHE’S DOWN! Melissa looks down and nods. Then she trots over to the neutral corner. Ashley trying to push herself up by the arms as the referee counts, but she shudders and slumps back down, her cheek coming to rest on her folded arms like she is napping. She does not hear:

“NINE!....TEN!...YOU ARE OUT!”

THE WINNER MELISSA BENOIST OF THE PLP DEFEATS ASHLEY GREENE OF THE O&E KO6.

After: Melissa beaming as she walks the sides of the ring, waving to the fans and raising her arms in victory. She strolls over to the now revived Ashley Greene who has been brought to her stool.

“I just wanted you to know Ashley—I do feel so much better when I can smile after a fight,” Melissa informs her.

“You’ll have to excuse me, I’m not really up to snappy one-liners just now,” Ashley Greene said.

“I didn’t think you would be. Just wanted to make sure you were all right,” Melissa said.

“What was with the juggmugging? My girls will be hurting for days,” Ashley complained.

“I don’t know, I thought it might distract you—it was worth having my girls pounded to getat yours,” Melissa replied.

“The next time you want a JMD bout let me know in advance,” Ashley grumbled, but then she actually smiled. “I know I got you back. Admit it. Your boobs hurt, too.”

Melissa smiled ruefully< “Yeah, you’re right. I’ll be packing on the ice, too. Honestly, the idea just popped into my head. It was an interesting experience.”

“Well, you ended up winning. All I have are bruises and another loss,” Ashley said.

“I know you’ll be back to winning soon enough. Tonight was my night to turn things around. Yours will just have to be some other night.”

“It will, I can assure you that,” Ashley said firmly.

Melissa and Ashley then hugged. Melissa then went back to her own corner while Ashley was helped from the ring.

Quite a fight. It went back and forth with a shutout round for each fighter. Curiously there were no knockdowns until the one that finished the bout. Observers debate if this is a reflection of how tough Melissa and Ashley or means they lacked power in their punching. Worthy debate topic to be sure, but most fans just want to see what develops in future fights for the two.
