TROIAN BELLISARIO VS KAYA SCODELARIO

Results: Lookout Story: Archer

Troian: 32 YO, 5’7 (1.70 m), 27-20-0, 23 KO since 2011, Pretty Little Punchers

Kaya: 26 YO, 5’6 (1.67 m), 20-6-0, 1 KO since 2013, Girls Friday

Before: “This is all strictly boxing business,” Troian Bellisario tells the pre-fight press meeting. “Kaya’s been a good friend of the PLP and especially Ashley Benson. I have nothing but respect for her and her climb to the Bantamweight Title. However now that Kaya has lost the belt to Nina Dobrev I see an opportunity for a future title shot. Since I am 2-3-0 so far this year, I really needed a win over an outstanding Bantam and that is most certainly Kaya. I am looking forward to winning this fight and moving myself into serious contender situation.”

“I appreciate Troian’s kind words about my relations with the Punchers. They are certainly mutual, but boxing is boxing. After my loss to Nina, I am in need of a bounce-back fight. I have to tell you that while it felt great to be the Bantam Champion, it feels quite low to have lost it. I want that belt back. It won’t be easy, but I cannot afford to lose this fight. Defeating Troian is something I need to do in order to stay in the title race. Since Troian feels the same way, I think it is safe to say the fans will get their monies worth when we get it on!”

“You tell them!” Troian agrees with a smile, but there is glint of competitiveness behind it.

On the day of the fight Troian is there in an elegant white one piece swimsuit with black gloves and boots (white laces.) Her dark hair is in a battle braid down her back. Kaya has selected a royal blue one piece swimsuit with light blue gloves and boots (dark blue laces). Her hair is in a simple ponytail. Brisk ring instructions get the fighters to their corners promptly.

R1: Kaya and Troian circle around each other at mid-ring as they exchanging probing jabs. Then Kaya takes the initiative and strikes Troi’s midsection with crisp hooks. Troi hunching up, trying to counter, but then Kaya bangs her hard to the jaw with an unexpected right. Troian knocked off balance. Kaya follows up with more hooks to the stomach to tip Troian forward. Troian gets her head banged from side to side by Kaya’s follow-up. Troian dropping back and using a flurry of jobs to stall Kaya’s follow-up. Round ends and the stanza goes to Kaya’s side of the judges’ cards by a wide margin.

R2: Troian letting Kaya come in on her and then unleashes a barrage of jabs. Kaya smacked hard in the face and recoils. Troian pumping hooks to the body to keep Kaya in retreat. Kaya trying to use the jab to hold Troian off, but Troian putting some muscle into those body hooks, driving Kaya up onto her toes and disrupting her defenses. Kaya struggling to keep off the ropes and trying to counter with the jab. Troian looking fired up keeps up pressure to the bell and wins the round wide.

R3: Kaya looking unsure of herself as she comes out this round. Troian happy to move in and keep up the pressure of head and body shots. Kaya still struggling with her jab and getting distracted by those shots to the belly. Kaya tries to counterattack by lunging forward to swing at Troian’s head. Kaya walks into answering right uppercut to the chin. Kaya stumbles back and Troian catches her with a a left to the jaw. DOWN GOES KAYA! Kaya on her bottom, looking uo groggily at Troi who marches to the neutral corner. Referee moves in. Kaya crouching now, waits for the count to get to “EIGHT!” and then she rises. Fight resumes with Troian trying to pick up where she left off, but Kaya is keeping her distance and using the jab to sting Troian’s face. Troian not pressing it the rest of the way. Knockdown ensures Troian has won the round wide.

R4: Troian back with the heavy pressure on Kaya. Kaya mostly falling back and covering up. Troian lashing away to head and body. She’s scoring points, but she’s doing less damage to the evasive Kaya. Troian makes an effort to cut off the ring and try to force Kaya into the ropes, but Kaya slips away again and again. Interesting defensive effort from Kaya, but it’s not helping her score many points. Troian again wins this one wide.

R5: No surprise to see Troian come pressing in close against Kaya, but this time Kaya greets her with a fast series of hooks to the belly. Troian now the one up on her toes. Kaya sweeps an uppercut into Troian’s chin and Troian goes stumbling back. Kaya going for the head with the follow-up, but Troian able to duck under these and then counter with a burst of jabs to Kaya’s chest and face. Kaya not backing off and gets into a close-in battle of body punching. They hammer away at each other with intensity. Kaya slowly pushing Troian back as the bell sounds. It is a close round, but Kaya pulls out the win. Both fighters looking a bit shaken from the effort, but Kaya is seen to be smiling, Troian frowning.

R6: Troian counterattacks as the new round gets started. She’s going for Kaya’s midsection, but Kaya brings blazing jabs crashing into Troian’s face. Troian falls back her face reddening and swelling. Kaya goes for Troi’s gut with deep, grinding hooks that have Troian toe dancing backwards with agony on her face. Kaya relentless as she pounds Troian’s ribs and then doubles her up with a fresh round of belly hooks. As Troian tips forward Kaya brings uppercuts into the Troi’s face and the PLP fighter lurches backwards into the ropes. Now Kaya again stuffs the hook into Troi’s gut and TROI FALLS TO HER KNEES. Troian with her left hand reaching back to the ropes and the right arm wrapped around her aching midsection gasps for air. Kaya off to the neutral corner as the referee moves in to count. Troian using the ropes to help get back to her feet which she does at “SEVEN!” but she looks greenish around the face. Referee seems uncertain about her condition but she is heard say fiercely: “I AM NOT QUITTING! YOU GET THIS FIGHT GOING AGAIN!” Official decides to Troian have her way and waves to Kaya. Kaya comes in and tries to finish Troian off, but Troian covers up and rides it out to the bell. Kaya now has a knockdown on her side of the cards and has won this round wide. She walks back to her corner with a determined look. Troian walks a lot more slowly and still has that greenish tint.

R7: Much concern in the Puncher corner as trainer Nia Peeples and manager Danielle Harris walk to their fighter. Troian still insisting she can go on and the other two let her have her way. The bell rings and Troian comes out quickly, but it is evident that she is forcing herself to come at Kaya. Kaya watching cautiously at first as they exchange punches. Troian not accurate in her punching tells Kaya all she needed to know. Kaya feints to the belly to draw Troian’s attention, but then unloads with the classic right cross/left hook combo to the unguarded jaw of her opponent. Troian stumbles back AND FALLS DOWN. Troian is seated, legs stretched out in front of her, leaning on arm as she props herself up. Referee is coming in and counting. Troi makes a determined effort and gets back to her feet. Referee just waves Kaya back in. Troian covering up and firing out the jab, trying to hold off Kaya. Kaya moving around Troian, circling, counter-circling until she has Troian confused. Then Kaya strikes again to the belly again and again. Troian’s legs start to buckle and she starts to topple forward. Swiftly drops her right hand down to her ankles then comes shooting up aiming for Troian’s descending chin. POW! Uppercut catches Troian under the chin and throws her back like a ragdoll. TROIAN CRASHES ONTO THE CANVAS! Troian starfished out: arms spread over her head, legs spread wide and her eyes are tightly closed. Referee moves in but it is a mere formality.

THE WINNER KAYA SCODELARIO DEFEATS TROIAN BELLISARIO KO7!

After: Puncher corner crew led by Nia Peeples and Dani Harris quickly rush to Troian’s side. Troian brought around and then assisted back to her stool for further examination. Kaya comes over to check on Troian and is relieved to be told Troi should be fine.

“That was quite a fight,” Kaya tells the press later, “it was my first time with Troian and it certainly was memorable. There were some bad moments for me especially early on, but I came back and won. Three times it took me! She’s one tough fighter. I am glad she’ll be all right. I hope we’ll get to fight again—just not tonight.”

For her part, Troian Bellisario doesn’t speak to the press until the next day when she can assure her fans that she’s been given a clean bill of health. As for the fight with Kaya:

“It was hard loss for me. I thought I had her, but she was able to turn the tables and win it. I give her credit: she’s an excellent fighter and I am not ashamed to have lost to her. I am not happy that I could have beaten her but didn’t. What’s next? We’ll just have to see. I don’t like having a losing record in 2018 so I plan to do my best to improve that. Title shot? That’s clearly going to have to wait until next year, but don’t think for a moment I’ve given up on winning back the belt!”

Fans certainly had an exciting fight in this battle. Both fighters worked hard, Troian came close to victory in R3, but couldn’t finish Kaya off. Kaya fought her way back into the fight. Took her three knockdowns to do it but there was no doubt when that third one put Troian on the canvas for the night. Great work by the GF fighter and we expect it won’t be long until she gets a fresh chance to wear the Bantamweight Belt. Meanwhile Troian will be regrouping and looking to get a disappointing year back on track.
