Natalie Portman versus Chloe Grace Moretz(Words: HISC / Results: Lookout!)

Before: Hard to ignore the Consortium’s known interest in indy darling Chloe Grace Moretz, particularly when pitting her against their ‘mature’ flyweight with a three-match losing streak. HISC is known for getting ahead of the curve in jettisoning talent they feel might be fading both successfully (Eliza Dushku) and not so much (Emma Watson). Doubtful this is a win-or-be-replaced bout for Natalie Portman, but she’d be well-advised to find the focus that’s apparently been eluding her.

“It’s a huge opportunity,” Chloe acknowledges. “I felt like I was ready to burst on the scene and things haven’t gone as I hoped. This is a chance to reintroduce myself. Olivia Holt used Natalie as a springboard to a title fight. I’m not doing that, but a management contract would be nice.”

Natalie smirks at a foe barely old enough to crack a bottle of Cristal.

“Nice. She brings up a contract right in front of me? HISC would have to lose their collective mind to drop me for you, sweetheart. Maybe Kreuk’s sent packing. But I’m Natalie Portman. And I’m going to teach you how the Ivy League transfers to the ring.”

Chloe’s not intimidated, walking to the flyweight Hall-of-Famer and giving her a testy chest bump that sends Consortium corner men scurrying to separate the two. Moretz reaches over the men’s brawny shoulders to get in a farewell tussle of Nat’s dark locks that has Portman fuming. Three straight losses to up-n-comers who used her as a rung on their respective ladders has Natalie frustrated and, despite her denials, looking a bit nervous.

Fight Night: Chloe coming ready for battle in basic black bikini top and boy-cut spandex shorts with black boots and gloves, blonde hair in a battle braid. Natalie, as part of her bawdy Rouge Dior mashup, goes with a fire-engine red, bandeau-style bikini, red gloves and white boots, Natalie’s dark brown locks are free, reaching just short of her shoulders.

Ref’s orders finds Chloe perky, bouncing from foot to foot, burning some nervous energy. Natalie looks the part of the steely-eyed veteran, though one wonders it’s all show after the trio of consecutive mat plantings. Chloe puts a little more ‘oomph’ into her glove touch, drawing a smirk from Portman. The women recede to their corners for the bell.

R1: Chloe out quickly, not waiting for the veteran to set up shop in the middle. She forces Portman to fight her way out with licking combos, which mostly bang off the brunette’s raised guard, but keep Natalie on the defensive. Portman circles out of trouble when she forges the room and it’s Chloe on the chase. Moretz pops left jabs after her girl, nibbling a couple into Natalie’s chin. Portman shakes them off and settles center stage, deciding it’s better for the younger girl to move more than she. With her target stationary, Chloe begins to shine Natalie’s right cheek then burrows a straight right deep into Portman’s abdomen crossing into the final minute. With a grunting Portman doubled slightly, Chloe lathers the veteran with stinging left-rights to Nat’s gurls then lifts a left to the chin that snaps the brunette’s noggin back. Moretz is ready to pounce, but the bell brings the first stanza to an end and Chloe settles for taking the round wide on points.

R2: Portman doesn’t get caught flat-footed to start the next frame, meeting Chloe straightaway in the middle. She deftly sidesteps Moretz’s opening gambit and raps a healthy left into the pillowy lips of the blonde, dismissing any thought the younger fighter would cruise. Tasting harsh leather seems to slow Chloe’s aggressiveness and Natalie takes advantage, teaching the youngster almost elegantly, alternating high and low strokes into jaw and tummy. The blows aren’t wicked but they’re accumulating quickly with only fleeting responses from the blonde, Chloe looking confused, even turning to her corner with beseeching eyes. The master completes the round with a left hook to the ribs and right to the jaw. Chloe hides the force of the impacts fairly well, but they encapsulate a dominant second from Natalie that evens the scorecards.

R3: It’s not a stern talking-to from the indy fighter’s FCBA-assigned corner help, but the pro bono assistance has Chloe back to her initial antagonistic self and it pays dividends early. Moretz pushes the action, crowding Portman at all times, stuffing stout body shots into taut tummy and ribs. Breathy little gasps from the brunette roll over Chloe’s shoulder in the clinch afterward. Natalie cleverly lifts her left arm and thrusts a shot into Moretz’s temple as they break and it’s like poking a flaxen-haired bear. Snarling, Chloe charges. Natalie tries to pick off the younger fighter as she walks in, but some nifty bobs and shoulder rolls set Chloe in place to thump a left into Natalie’s bosom and set up a rapid-fire right that connects with the Academy Award winner’s chin. Natalie stumbles away from the impact, though quickly collecting her feet beneath her. Portman dances and ducks effectively enough to run out Round Three but gives it to Chloe wide.

R4: Cat and mouse continues and does anyone play it better than the Harvard graduate. Natalie is slow out of her corner and draws the precocious Chloe in, the blonde eager to keep her foe there. A couple wide swipes smack into Portman’s shoulders before Natalie sweeps Moretz by after a full-on swing-and miss. Not only does Portman clip Chloe a stinger to the nose on the way by, but as blonde and brunette turn toward each other, Natalie now on the outside and Moretz’s back against the corner, it’s Natalie who puts on a display of her sweet scientific method, outguessing Chloe at every turn, swaddling her younger rival with body shots when Moretz’s defense gets high and buffeting those full lips with piston-like pops when Chloe covers up the ab meat. It’s a clinic by the brunette. Chloe escapes for a moment, reeling down the length of the ropes, only to get cornered again, taking shots with sniper-like efficiency. Chloe takes a seat on the middle buckle late, turtling. Nat unleashes but can’t finish. Still this round’s a stone cold shutout for Portman.

R5: Now it’s Natalie who’s determined to beat Chloe out of the corner and finish the blonde off. Moretz’s time on the stool wasn’t wasted and, being 21 years old, she seems to replenish in an instant, at least enough to slow Portman’s advance with some rugged body shots. The Oscar winner responds with a volley of her own, going jugg on the youngster and clinching tight when the opportunity presents. The crafty Ivy Leaguer digs some kidney punches in with her right as her left arm keeps the grunting blonde close. Twisting to free herself from the Harvard thuggery, Chloe ‘accidentally’ thumps an elbow to Nat’s left ear, sending Portman hopping in the opposite direction. Moretz shows speed in her mitts, slipping a couple past Natalie’s defenses before Portman can consolidate. She sticks leather to Natalie’s reddening cheek and chin. At the bell, it’s a close one but the last few punches sway the cards and it comes back Chloe’s round.

R6: Couldn’t be closer on the cards at the midway point and while both women look worn they don’t appear worn out. It’s Portman claiming the middle, letting the woman more than a decade her junior circle her, Chloe looking for the keyhole. She tries to pick the lock with an opening left-right and Natalie interrupts with a CRASHING overhand right to Chloe’s moneymaker, the blonde’s head snapping back mid-delivery, Moretz’s own right hand short-circuited. Defense dropping, Natalie leaps for the jugular only semi-figuratively. Furious fists follow Portman’s first, a left brushing her foe’s right cheek, but then a right collides with Chloe’s jaw and a follow-up left to the temple and CHLOE TIMBERS TO THE DECK! Stiff as a board, Moretz collapses to the canvas, landing on her left shoulder and hip. Chloe flops to her back, staring blankly at the rafters, arms fidgeting at her side but with no obvious ambition, legs stretched and unmoving. Her head lolls from side to side. Natalie strolls away raising her hands, confident at five that Chloe won’t make it up by ten. Moretz is able to prop slightly on her forearms, but her lids blink over glazed eyes as the official counts her out. KO6 for Natalie Portman as a legend puts a finger in the dyke after losing five of six. Chloe is no slouch in this one and she’s plenty young enough to use it as a resume builder for a management contract if not from the Consortium.

After: There’s no way Portman’s going to be held back after spending the last three post-matches on the receiving end from Millennials. Nat almost beats a shellshocked Chloe back to her corner, Natalie ripping the loser away from her contracted corner men and stacking the blonde in her corner. The Ivy Leaguer places shoe leather on each bottom rope and tummies the weakly protesting Moretz. Chloe tries to turn her noggin to the side and take Nat’s alabaster abs on a cheek, but a tug from the victor places nose and lips where they belong, Portman gliding over Chloe’s increasingly greasy features, the blonde sniffling back sobs, realizing the gatekeeper closed the door on her this time.
