Miley Cyrus versus Cassie Scerbo

Critical fight in the flyweight division featuring two of the premier names as contenders jockey for position and look for a shot at that gold belt – Cyrus Miley of Chimera vs. Cassie Scerbo of Bazz. Cyrus a little younger, a little taller, and had the better record of late. Scerbo suffering from whatever seems to have hit the Bazz Stable is an uncharacteristic 1 for her last 6, but brings more experience. Both have been flyweight champion in the past but Scerbo with the more distinguished reign. When it all shakes out, Miley’s greater success of late is the key and she’s installed as the favorite by the people who wager.

Pre fight presser remarkably professional, given both girls well known reputations for “antics”. Fight night finds Miley in white sports bra, with matching trunks, gloves and ankle boots with tassles: Cassie in her favored black bikini with black calf height boots and trunks. Miley accompanies to ring by Chimera coaches Jeri Ryan and Paula Abdul; Cassie with Bazz trainers Angie Everhart and Tylene Buck. Referee instructions tense but calm until Miley can’t resist flashing her famous tongue and asking Cassie, ready to go to sleep?” which draws a shove from the Bazz girl.

Round 1: Early on its clear that we are looking at a classic boxer v brawler matchup – usually makes for a pleasing fight. Brunette Cassie on her toes, popping with the jab … touching up the stalking blonde Cyrus, who unleashes with big overhand right, frustrated at being dictated to early. Cassandra Lynn feinting, rolling shoulders, gets inside and left right left to Miley midriff, looks to disengage and then abruptly rings singer up with clapping right hand to the temple which hurts the blonde. Cyrus hurt but Scerbo not inclined to go for broke this early, perhaps wary of punching power of the bigger woman (who’s had some bantamweight bouts). Cassie exerts controlled pressure, touching her opponent up and not there for the receipts. Shutout round Scerbo as she waives fist to fans, one judge scores it a 10-8 without a knockdown.

Round 2: Jeri Ryan in Cyrus ear between rounds, and there is no better coach in the FCB for a big puncher than the greatest knockout artist the organization has ever seen, “Stay calm, its one round – don’t sweat it! Be patient, time her coming and then crack her!”. Cyrus out of corner with left low and right glove by her cheek, trying to bait Scerbo. Cassie having none of it … works the perimeter behind the jab, first content to peck, then knocking Cyrus’ head back. Once too often and Cyrus slips the jab and pounds overhand right to the jaw, which shakes the brunette. Miley looking to capitalize, pounces and pounds left hook to the body, which draws a grunt but Cassie spins out. Scerbo looks to reset but Cyrus keeps the pressure on, disrupting more than scoring. Close round – Scerbo ring generalship versus Cyrus power shots; edge to Cyrus close.

Round 3: Welterweight legend Angie Everhart to Screbo, “She’s a bully; seen her type before. One big shot and she’ll quit! Pick your spot then move your hands.” Cyrus encouraged to be on the board marching on Scerbo now, chasing brunette around the perimeter, willing to walk right through the jab to engage. Cassie spitting jabs; Miley inexorably bulling inside. Mauling stuff, wrestling, short body shots, all of which favor the more physical singer. At length, Scerbo able to tie up and force break, she skips behind ref to create distance and circles right away from Cyrus, who claps gloves and taunts “Come on!”. Scerbo too smart to be baited and Cyrus pursues. Abruptly, Scerbo digs in rear foot, pivots and slams right hand lead flush to Cyrus face – then DOUBLES it! Miley Cyrus stunned, reels back … and here comes Cassandra Lynn! Feigns overhand right and delivers thumping left right left to body, twists hips for emphasis on the last left which draws a pained grunt out of Cyrus. Cyrus draws in elbows on ropes and endures a thirty second pummeling ribs, shoulders, occasional up to the jaw. Miley erupts out of shell with right uppercut which misses and Scerbo slams right to the jaw which has singer sagging into the ropes as the bell sounds. Big round Scerbo, 10-8 on two cards – no knockdown by Cyrus looked about ready to go late. Scerbo to Everhart, "Thought you said she'd quit?"

Round 4: Miley in corner with ice pack on back of neck, unclear how much of what Ryan and Abdul are saying is getting through. Bell rings and grinning Cassie Lynn can’t wait to get back at it. Now it’s her stalking! Jab jab jab drives the singer to the ropes, Cassie looking to use left now as measuring stick and pounds hard right off Cyrus forehead .. and learns Miley Cyrus is still dangerous! Tennessee terror whips left hook which smacks brunette jaw and sends her reeling back. Cyrus snarls and comes forward, pounds left hand to midriff and Scerbo is on her bicycle in full retreat. Balance of round is Cyrus in pursuit, Scerbo not taking much in way of punishment but can’t hold canvas, leads to Miley getting nod in the round. All even in rounds but Scerbo ahead on points off those 10-8 rounds.

Round 5: Scerbo looking to reestablish and it is all about movement and that jab … or the threat of that jab. Able to dictate pace by circling away from Cyrus right handed bombs and punish and frustrate with that steady pik-pak left. Picking spots to scoot in and under, flurry to the body and get out. On way out she gets spanked a scalding hook to the chin on one occasion and clinched, wrestled and mauled on the other but when bell sounds, solid round for Scerbo.

Round 6: Ryan sends Cyrus out with smack on the butt and parting advice, “Feint … then pow-pow, got it?”. Brunette once again circling on ropes, flicking jab to keep singer at range. Cyrus stalking with dukes at chin. Winging right hand from Miley just grazes Scerbo cheek and startled brunette, changes direction. Cyrus feigns right and pounds left to the liver and rips left hook to the chin. Big head swivel, mouthpiece sails … and Scerbo DROPPED! Scerbo seated, blinking as ref picks up the count, “… 4 … 5 … 6 …” Scerbo looks to rise but grimace of pain from the liver shot, “… 8 … 9 …”. Sheer force of will and Cassie back on feet but the man has already said those dreaded words “… 10 … you’re out!”.

Post fight: Chimera has a reputation for post fight shenangians but not tonight. Cyrus to Bazz corner, Scerbo on stool having ribs checked, offers a word of encouragement. Post fight interview, Miley opines, “She’s tough, she’s class, that’s about the long and short of it – but we didn’t think she could deal with my power .. not for ten rounds. She built a nice lead, I give her that … but Jeri kept telling me ‘only takes one … find that chin …’. What’s next? Mish Williams … you duckin’ me. girlfriend? Been here eight years … how is it we’ve never fought? People starting to talk, Mish … just sayin!”

And the brat sticks out her tongue, signaling the end to the interview!
