SOFIA CARSON VS KATHERINE MCNAMARA
Results: Lookout Writing: Archer

Sofia: 26 YO, 5’4 (1.63 m), 0-2-0 since 2017, Unmanaged

Katherine: 23 YO, 5’4 (1.63 m), 0-2-0 since 2017, Unmanaged

Before: Beth Harnois, Communications Director for Foxfire Boxing, explains why the organizations is prompting this fight: “Our managing director Jennifer Garner were talking about hard it is for a young unmanaged fighter to get attention. We had just been through a long search before we signed Danielle Rose Russell and we had seen some very good fighters who we concluded didn’t fit our plans. Still, we liked them and came up with this way of trying to get some attention for at least two of them. So we have arranged for Sofia and Kat to face each other. They are both 0-2. Sofia lost to Jane Levy and Chloe Grace Moretz. Katherine has lost to Zara Larsson and Lily Collins. We are hoping that one of them will get her first win and both will get the notice we think they deserve. Everyone at Foxfire wishes both Sofia and Katherine good luck in the fight!”

As for the two fighters. Sofia says: “This is a wonderful opportunity. I really believe I have a lot of potential for a stable if they would give me the chance. Winning this fight could be the boost I need. I don’t know much about Katherine, but I know myself and I have what it takes it win against her!”

Kat says: “Now I get my chance to show what I can do. I admit I was in over my head against Lily Collins, but this is a fight I can win and I am going to win. I can’t be sure it will be a career booster, but it certainly can’t hurt! I can’t wait t get into the ring.”

Fight night saw Sofia Carson enter the ring in a dark purple one piece with lighter purple gloves and boots. Kat Graham is wearing a black one piece with gold trim. Kat has on black gloves and boots with gold laces. Sofia’s longer black hair is pulled back in a long French braid down her back. Kat has her red hair in a simple ponytail. Both fighters eager to go and move nervously during the ring instructions, but listen intently. Tap of the gloves and they are back int heir corners. The bell rings…

R1: Sofia and Kat move quickly from their corners and go at each other with vigor. They bob and weave as they circle each other, spitting out shots at a good clip. They are operating at the middle distance, striking mainly to the head and flanks. Then they both decide to get in close and this sets off some hot body pounding action in close. Now their breasts, stomachs and ribs are getting worked over as they bring that leather in hard and fast. Katherine finding Sofia’s stomach a good target and she goes at it hard with a barrage of deep, grinding hooks. Sofia knocked back, looking like she’s struggling for breath, but she uses her jab to hold Kat back. Kat works her way to the side and digs Sofia in the side ribs until time rubs out. It’s a close round but Kat McNamara wins it.

R2: New round and out the young fighters come. Sofia showing some quick footwork to confuse Kat and then she brings a hard right into the redhead’s jaw. Kat staggers off to one side, but rights herself to try to hold Sofia off with her jab. Sofia adds some steady hooks to the midsection and then returns to smack Kat to the chin. Kat looking unsteady and sluggish as Sofia now works her back towards the ropes. Kat trying to slide away from the strands. Sofia in pursuit. They battle along the ropes with head shots, but Sofia scoring more often with hers and keeps Katherine on the defensive. Sofia can’t quite cut off the ring and pin Kat to the ropes, but the bell rings and Sofia has won the round by a wide margin.

R3: Katherine looking very puffy in the face as she sat on her stool and her corner crew does their best to clean up the damage. Still, the redhead is slow coming out for the new round and Sofia Carson bursts onto her like a storm of leather. Kat is battered around the head until she covers up with her gloves, but now her body comes under sustained punching attack from Sofia. Kat now being driven backwards and Sofia has finally figured out how to out off the ring. Kat hits the ropes, takes a seat and covers up as best she can. Sofia using Kat’s body like a gym heavy bag, just slamming in the punches and trying to knock the fight out of the redhead. Kat writhing under this bombardment but her legs hold and she is still upright at the bell. Sofia steps back to inspect her handiwork as Kat pulls away from the ropes. Redhead looks stiff and sore, but she looks the brunette in the eye.

“This isn’t over,” she is heard by ringsiders telling Sofia.

“I think it will be,” Sofia replies coldly.

They then turn away and go to their corners. Sofia Carson has won her second straight round wide.

R4: Hard work in the Kat McNamara corner and Kat’s seen getting advice from her trainer. Kat nodding. Meanwhile Sofia is looking smiling and confident on her stool. Bell sounds. Kat out of her corner much faster this round. Sofia wastes no time in trying to get more punching into Kat, but Kat moves in low and fast, then shoots up with a right to the chin. Sofia smacked hard. She goes staggering back and Kat pursues with a fast-firing series of strikes to the chin and jaw. Sofia covering her head, but Katherine seems quite happy to start giving the brunette a thorough body scrubbing punching swab-down. Sofia stumbling back, tries to stabilize with her jab and she does knock Kat back on her heels with desperate shots to the face However, Kat swings around and demonstrates she knows how to cut off the ring too. She drives Sofia into the ropes and now has the pleasure of working over the huddled brunette who now is the one covering up and enduring wave after waves of punches. Bell ends the beating and Sofia is unsteady as she peels herself from the strands. Kat standing there is a nasty grin.

“Told you it wasn’t over,” Kat heard to whisper,

“It’s still not over,” Sofia says as she slowly, painfully moves back to her corner.

Kat McNamara looks cheerful walking to her corner. Why not? She’s won the round by a wide margin.

R5: Now it is the turn of Sofia Carson’s corner crew to employ their talents to repair as much of the damage done to their fighter as they can. Katherine quiet on her stool, though she does nod as her trainer speaks into her ear. Bell sounds and both fighters are prompt to come out, though Katherine moving a little faster. Kat ducks down and prepares for another rising strike, but Sofia backpedals out of range. Kat comes after the brunette, but Sofia comes at her to and strikes aggressively at the redhead’s jaw. Kat smacked, but counters with a left that clouts Sofia in the jaw. Sofia and Kat then plunge towards each other in a fresh flurry of toe-to-toe body action. This rages steadily until Kat is able to thrust a right uppercut behind Sofia’s mitts and up into her chin. Sofia’s head jerks back and she goes floundering backwards. Kat leaping forward to bring rights and lefts in rapid succession into Sofia’s jaw until the brunette crumbles! DOWN GOES SOFIA CARSON as she crashes onto her back and lays there, arms and legs outflung in an impressive starfish. Katherine hurries to the neutral corner and watches anxiously as the referee counts. Sofia stirs, trying to rise, but she can’t seem to get her arms and legs to cooperate with her brain. She is struggling desperately as referee declares:

“NINE!...TEN!...YOU’RE OUT!”

THE WINNER KATHERINE MCNAMARA DEFEATS SOFIA CARSON KO5!

After: Katherine warmly congratulated by Beth Harnois of Foxfire Boxing. Beth goes over to check on Sofia and gives the clearly distressed brunette a comforting hug.

“It feels so good to have my first win. I sure intend it not be the last. Sofia’s good, but she’s just not as tough as I am,” Katherine observes. “That beating I took on the ropes was bad, but I came back from it. When it happened to Sofia, she tried to come back, but I overwhelmed her and you all saw me finish her off. I don’t know what’s next for me, but I hope it’s something good. I want to be sure and thank everyone at Foxfire for helping set up this fight. It’s never easy when you are unmanaged and I really appreciate them doing this for Sofia Carson and myself.”

Sofia Carson not pleased when told of Katherine’s comments about her toughness are passed on to her in the post-fight: “That is just not true. Yes I was hurting after R4, but I came back and I was fighting her very evenly, My mistake was allowing her to get that uppercut into my chin. I don’t remember too much after that, but I don’t believe she would reacted any differently if I had landed a punch that strong. So this was a bitter disappointment of a fight for me. I lost, but it’s a fight I could have won. I will just have to pick up the pieces and move on. I do thank Foxfire for giving me this chance.”

Flyweight fans certainly got their monies worth in this contest. Plenty of punching action that seem to go back and forth. Katherine’s ability to come back from adversity certainly helped, but so did her ability to spot a weakness in Sofia’s guard and get in that devastating uppercut in the 5th, No doubt as satisfying a win for Kat as it was a painful loss for Sofia. One can only hope they we will see more of them in FCBA action soon.
