CELEBRITY BOXING AFTER DARK

India: 25 YO, 5’3 (1.60 m), 0-1-0 since 2019, Free Agent

Danielle: 19 YO, 5’3 (1.60 m), 2-3-0. 2 KO since 2019, Foxfire Boxing

Before: New Jersey-born Danielle Rose Russell (“The Originals”/”Legacies”) calmly explains why she is fighting India Eisley: “I would be denying reality of I didn’t admit being 2-3 is not where I wanted to be at this stage I my careers. I don’t think it was a problem losing to Kat Dennings, Olivia Holt or Emma Roberts, Maybe I wasn't at their level, but fighting them has taught me some painful, but valuable lessons. I am fighting India to prove I can put those lessons into practice. India Eisley has only been here since the first of year. She hasn’t had as many opportunities as I have, but she showed some pretty good stuff against Lili Reinhart—even if she did end up out cold in the 4th. She is just the sort of fighter I need right now.”

British actress India Eisley (“The Returned”/”I Am The Night”) sniffs: “What she wants is a some rookie jobber she thinks she can use so Foxfire doesn’t dump her like they did Willa Holland. Oh! You look surprised Danielle. You didn’t know that? Tsk! Tsk! That’s what you get for not doing your proper research. Poor Willa lost one fight after the other and they finally gave up on her and out the door she went. You better watch out or you’ll be next to get the boot!”

Danielle looks confused and finally says: “I don’t care about Willa Holland. I am me and I going to win—starting with you.”

“That’s the spirit, dear. You just keep telling yourself that and maybe it won’t happen to you. Of course, I am sure that's what poor Willa Holland thought right up to the end.”

At this point Foxfire Boxing Communications Director Elisabeth Harnois comes out and puts an arm around Dani’s waist: “Don’t listen to her, Dani. She is just trying to psyche you out.” (Then she looks over at India). “You seem to know a lot about Foxfire Boxing and the FCBA. What you don’t seem to know if that we don’t discuss our roster with opponents--especially ones without a manager.”

“Just trying to enlighten the poor girl,” India said. “I am 6 years her senior.”

“Don’t you dare call me ‘poor girl’. They wouldn’t even let you near this fed until this year. You are just jealous of me!” Danielle cried.

“Think that if you want,” India says with a shrug. “It may comfort you when I knock you cold.”

Danielle is getting angry, but Beth Harnois holds her back and tries to calm the young fighter down.

“I think we had best leave,” Beth says with finality and dirty look at a smirking India Eisley. “See you in the ring, Ms. Eisley.”

“You most certainly will,” India says with assurance.

“You are SO dead” Danielle snaps before Beth guides her away.

Well, nothing like some rookie wrath to stir up followers of FBCA rookies. Danielle comes to the ring in silver and black bikini with silver gloves and black boots. (Black laces for the gloves. Silver for the boots) She accompanied by trainer Virginia Madsen and Foxfire Communications Director Beth Harnois. India comes to the ring in a black bikini with white gloves and boots with black laces. Both ladies have hair pulled back in battle braids. They face off against each other. The referee has to remind them they are here to box and listen to his instructions. Order is maintained though there is chilly sullenness from Danielle as India smirks at her. They “tap” gloves (rather hard) and go to their corners. Then the bell rings.

R1: Danielle out smoothly at the bell, India is a bit slower and this allows Dani to seize the early initiative. Dani pumps out a quick series of rights to the face to put India on her heels. India trying to get set but Dani able to disrupt this by crowding in and putting hooks in India’s midsection. India seems to have some trouble getting her jab going and drops back to give herself some distance. Dani moves forward to keep up the pressure, but then India ‘s jab suddenly hardens and Danielle gets smacked hard to the face. Now Dani falls back to regroup. Fighters circle each other and then plunge forward. Punching now aimed at the heads of both India and Danielle and they strike home hard. Both fighters looking dazed and hesitate before moving in, but Danielle moves first and brings some sharp rights into India’s stomach. India pushed back and Dani adds an overhand right to the forehead to get India moving back faster. India rallies late in a sharp exchange of jabs to the body. Time runs out. Close round, but Danielle Rose Russell is given it by the judges.

R2: India Eisley much quicker out of her corner this round and engages Danielle Rose Russell with quick hits to the side of the head. Then India swings around and stuffs hooks into Dani’s midsection. Danielle trying to get her counters going, but India is proving an elusive target this round. Dani keeps having her shots blocked or striking only glancing blows. At the same time, India keeps the pressure on Dani with a steady build-up of punches to her head and face. Red splotches and swollen areas are starting to appear on Dani’s faces from India’s quick strikes. Danielle trying to get closer to India so she can get some stronger punches into the elusive rookie, but this effort causes her to have to absorb India’s defensive body blows. Dani looking frustrated and lumped up as the round comes to a close. India looks understandably pleased with herself as the judges reward her with the round by a wide margin.

R3: Danielle answers with a storming attack on India as soon as the bell ring. Dani out of her corner and leaps forward to bring a slash right into India’s head. This blow connects with power and India is sent reeling into the ropes, Dani on India and pumping punches into the body of her trapped opponent. India wraps Dani up in a clutch and the referee separates them. Dani goes right back at India. India fighting back with jabs to the head and upper body as she seeks to avoid being pinned on the ropes again. They slide along the strands punching away, but Dani lands a right to the chin that knocks India sideways into the ropes and then she tries to keep her there. India huddles on the ropes and then starts clinching to break up the attack. India finally able to push her way free, but Dani keeps close and India is under pressure to the body as they battle at mid-ring. A right to the jaw from Dani seems to weak India late and she resorts to covering up as Dani finishes the round. Danielle wins the round wide.

R4: Danielle resumes her attack as the new round gets started, but India fighting back strongly this time. Exchange of head shots leaves Dani looking dazed and India is quick to close in to try to take her down with follow up blows to the head. Danielle falls back, covering her head and then tries to regroup. India attacks again, but this time Dani has a strong jab going. Fierce exchanged of punches to the head and body. India then works Danielle with hooks to the belly that start to make her double up. India then goes to rights and lefts to the sides of Dani’s head. Dani again backs away, but not too far. India presses forward and again encounters Dani’s jab with the blows going into her face. India’s attack stalls, but she hangs in close to battle away to the body with Dani down to the bell. Bell sounds. India emerges a narrow winner on the judges’ cards. India and Dani exchange sharp look. Referee coolly steps between them and they depart for their corners.

R5: Bell rings and both fighters come out aggressively. India going for Danielle’s head. Dani ducking away, but does take glancing blow off the noggin. India lunges in with an attempted follow-up, but Dani whirl ducks under it. Then Danielle drives an uppercut into the underside of India’s chin and catches the Brit flush. INDIA EISLEY GOES DOWN! Shocking in its suddenness, the uppercut has jerked India off her feet and sent her hurling to the canvas. India lands with a crash and ends up starfished , arms and legs thrown out, head lolling to one side. Danielle looks down in surprise and then gallops off to the neutral corner. Dani looks on with an anxious expression as the referee counts. India’s eyes flutter open and she tries to sit up, but can only roll onto her side and push up on one arm. That’s nowhere near enough.

“NINE!...TEN!...YOU ARE OUT!”

THE WINNER: DANIELLE ROSE RUSSELL DEFEATS INDIA EISLEY KO5.

After: Danielle leaps into the air with excitement as she realizes she’s won. She runs to the arms of Virginia Madsen and then Beth Harnois. Meanwhile India Eisley is helped back to her corner and revived. The next thing she knows she looks up to see Danielle standing there.

“On your feet, India Eisley. Time to join me in my Walk of Victory!” Danielle proclaims. Shes had her gloves removed and is ready to go.

“What happened?” India wails. “I was winning! Then the roof fell in!”

“Wait for the film, you’ll see it all—and I was glorious,” Dan declared. “Now stop stalling and get up!"

India finds herself hoisted to her feet and forced to accompany Danielle on a Victory Walk along the ring. Dani waves to her fans and savors their cheers. Of course, it is all a miserable experience for India, but she trudges along gamely. Dani turns India loose after completing the circuit and then goes back across the ring to join Virginia and Beth.

“It’s been a great night! I am SO happy!” She declares as they exit the ring.

You never quite know what you’ll get when two rookies clash. Certainly Danielle Rose Russell had few more fights than India Eisley and the advantage of her Foxfire management. However India Eisley did show some good punching and good footwork at times, but she caught and nailed in the 5th ending her second fight in sudden KO. So Danielle goes to 3-3 and solidifies her position as Foxfire’s Flyweight of the Future, but she will need to keep progressing in order to fulfill her potential.
