Before: "She beat me the first time we fought," Cat recalls ruefully, "and said afterwards that she had pushed me to the sidelines and that now we would understand each other. I have to admit, that got to me a little bit. I don't think I've ever forgotten or forgiven Ashley for that, so yes, I feel a little extra motivation anytime we hook up." Judd a little off the radar screen these days, but still confident in her abilities. "Look, I'm not a pundit's darling," says Judd, "I don't pay for rankings the way most of these girls do and I don't kiss ass the way they do. I wasn't in the tournament because a lot of people thought I'd win it and they didn't like that. There isn't an important lightweight in this sport that I haven't beaten and Cat Bell knows that - she knows this is a real fight. Ask Jeri Ryan if Ashley J's to be taken lightly." Judd in red bikini, twist tied top, hipster bottoms - Cat in electric blue bikini.

During R1: Cat hands up, palms out, snapping down with the jab. Ashley dukes up around her temples, stepping forward, bobbing under the stick, jabbing back at Cat's middle to close the distance. Judd doing a good job of solving for range - she's getting inside Cat's reach, investing heavily in the waist with both hands. Ash backing Bell up with a meanspirited overhand right to the heart - really bashing it in there, drawing winces from the classy ex-champ.

R2: More pressure from Ashley - she's getting a lot of what she wants in terms of ring position, distance, coming forward etc. Bell sliding back, trying to negotiate behind her jab, but it's not landing - Judd's getting to her chest and working. Final minute - Bell steps back, right at her chest - she rolls a wide Ashley right, comes back with a bingo right uppercut on the chin - JUDD GOES WOBBLY BUTT! Cat placing a perfect counter on target, steps to the right as Ashley covers up - Bell leans into walloping right hands above the hip and behind the elbow to sink Judd sideways into the ropes. Round-bell saves AJ - she's pained, arching her back as Cat steals a Judd round.

R3: Cat taking over - doubling up the jab from the high guard, backing Judd up - Bell moving her girl to the perimeter, measuring her for chopping rights. Midway through - Ashley ducks under a Bell right, comes back a chin-checking counter hook and BELL GOES DOWN! Thunderclap shot on the chops has Cat on her butt - she tries to push off her rump, plops back down, finally rolling painfully to her feet to beat the count. Judd thick on follow up - extending her left between Cat's gloves to stabilize, then ripping right hands hard to the stomach - Cat cringing, looking shabby at the ropes. Grim war at the ropes, Judd head on Cat's shoulder, palming the taller girl's hips and ribs, jerking in tight lefts and rights - Bell hands around Judd's ears, controlling her head, holding her for little right uppercuts. Phonebooth action to Ashley's liking - she's got Bell giving up her height.

R4: Good solid bell to bell beatdown of classy Cat Bell. Ash jabbing pre-emptively, occupying Cat's guard, then carrying beefy right hands into the waist and ribcage, rattling Bell, shaking her legs. Bell against the ropes, head bowed, covered up - Ash able to work inside, drub the body, scrub jug and she's really committing to these awful overhand right heart punches that have Cat's face tight with pain.

R5: Signs of life from Cat - back to the jab, giving Ash some lateral movement for the first time, showing Judd angles. Cat mixing in right hands to keep Ashley off her - uppercuts, crosses, dropping 'em in, then stepping around, not waiting for the receipt. Bell gets her distance, keeps the fight in the middle of the ring - Judd lumping up around the eyes as she pursues to no avail this round.

R6: Bell using the ring, bookends the round with rangy boxing on the outside, but unfortunately for her, Judd makes merry with Cat's body in the middle minute. Crunching torso assault from Ashley has ringsiders shouting in response - Bell with hands up around Judd's ears, body cringing as Judd turns on thick rights and lefts, getting her hips and shoulders behind bruising blows. Bell sobbing for air - mouth open, eyelashes fluttering in these moments - Judd hammers away for points by landing the most meaningful punches of the round.

R7: Cat shopworn, but determined - she's back to the jab, scarring up Judd's eyes, luring her into counter-right crosses, sidestepping her, turning her at the ropes. Ashley reaching her jab in and trying to bend into that right hand heart punch, but Cat's fading it, stepping out in advance, walking around Judd to move her feet. Good round of boxing from Bell prevents Judd from building on a strong seventh - Ashley upbeat in her corner as trainer tells her she's got this thing in the bag.
R8: Best two way action of the fight - Judd tearing her way into Cat, bulling her to the ropes, pushing her head between Bell's gloves and savaging her to the body with relentless lefts and rights. Bell sliding along strands, picking Ash up with uppercuts, controlling the girl's head, giving away the ribs, just trying to minimize the damage. All Judd to the final minute - she's mopping up, walking Cat down when Bell stops, turns on a beautiful hesitation right that claps the mouthpiece off Judd's teeth! Ashley caught up short, stunned, she puts her hands on her temples, wobbling forward as Bell piles on. Cat with room, swings at the midsection of her foe - great crippling, straight arm lefts and rights shaking Ash midring, paralyzing her. Judd with tears in her eyes at the bell, all stiff and hurting --Bell steals another AJ round with late power, doing her veteran thing down the stretch.

R9: Ash with early pressure, but Bell's got her legs back - she retreats, absorbing the momentum, keeping the jab on Judd and finally bringing the fireplug lightweight to heel midring. Rest of the way is methodical Cat Bell outside, jabbing to the face, stepping leisurely to her left, measuring and punishing her foe with choosy right hands. Judd on her heels, hands up to block, bending at the waist, but not coming forward - she's hanging around at the end of Cat's jab where it's just not safe.

R10: Cat aggressively takes midring, weight forward, feinting Ashley, getting her to flinch. Bell jabbing heartlessly, banging away on Judd's eyes, breaking her down - end of the first minute, gorgeous right hand flows off the stick, turning Judd's head and popping that mouthpiece out once again. Bell doesn't press even when Judd's legs give a shimmy - veteran circles right, keeps that merciless jab on her foe, keeps setting down on single right hands that are patiently ruining Ashley Judd. AJ coming alive in the final minute, suddenly aware her sizable lead might be in jeopardy - she walks through the jab to get to Cat's jugs, beating those babies brutally with rolling thunder on the inside. Heartfelt, bitter slugging after the bell as the ref separates seething beauties. Comes back UD10 Cat Bell.

After: Pain, disappointment in Judd's hollow eyes, she hangs her head, staring at the canvas - she carried a lead into the 9th against Cat Bell and couldn't close it out. Cat all beat up in her body and stepping gingerly, left arm cradling battered ribs, but she wears a weary smile: another veteran come-back, Bell scooping the last four rounds to eke this one out in the tenth. "Hard fight," Cat admits in postfight, "it always is against Ashley. She beat me in the body something horrible, but I just stayed with the gameplan, kept boxing her and whittled away at her down the stretch. Hey - Judd might not be ranked, but if you aren't world class, she's going to beat you. She brought out the best in me tonight."
