3. Brie Larson vs Emily Ratajkowski (Bantamweight)

Brie:

(30 years old, 5’7”, 9-4 with 8 KO since 2017, Fates Boxing)

Emily:

(28 years old, 5’7”, 27-13 with 24 KO since 2014, VIXENs)

BEFORE:
The third match features two prominent bantamweights going vying for supremacy and proving that they are worthy of a title shot in the near future. This is the first meeting between the two fighters, although Ratajkowski flattened Larson’s stablemate Elizabeth Olsen a few months ago. Since then, Larson has proven herself as the number one bantamweight at Fates and is looking to make a statement tonight with a win against Emily. Meanwhile, Ratajkowski wants to prove that she can fight with the best in the division. Both women know that they are facing staunch competition, and they note as much to the press.

“For someone who came into the year at 4-3, Brie has shown that she has what it takes to succeed in the FCBA.” Ratajkowski notes her opponent’s recent success despite her more modest start. “It’s also nice to see that Fates has someone who can fight at bantam, unlike Olsen, who is frankly a mediocre fighter. Unfortunately for Brie, she’s going to have the same fate as her stablemate.”

Larson is terse when talking to the press, “Ratajkowski has been a solid fighter once she got under VIXENs management. She is going to be a tough test, and I am looking forward to it.” Brie walks away, not having anything more to say.

Come fight time, the air in the arena is tense as the fighters get introduced and make their way to the ring. First out is Larson, who has opted for a blue sports bra and matching gloves with black trunks, her hair up in a bun as she confidently strides towards the ring, not letting her focus waver from the canvas. Ratajkowski then makes her entrance, donning a red sports bra with matching spandex bottoms with white gloves, her brunette hair up in a ponytail for the fight. Once she gets in the ring, she and Larson step up to each other and receive final instructions from the referee before they touch gloves and the bell rings.

ROUND 1:
Larson and Ratajkowski begin the match by circling each other, each woman sizing her opponent up and trying to get a read on when and how she will strike. Brie is the first one to make a move, jabbing with her left to get Emily’s attention and then slamming a left into Emily’s jaw, much to the younger fighter’s surprise. Larson tries to press the tempo, but the experienced Emily comes right back at the blonde actress with a right that catches Brie in the shoulder and then a left that gets her chest. Now it’s Emily’s turn to look for the advantage and she swings with a big right hook, but Brie ducks and then pops two fast punches right into Emily’s mouth. Ratajkowski moves to her left and punches a straight left at Larson, but Brie again gets out of the way and pops the brunette in the mouth again with a right and then a left to the body, gradually moving Ratajkowski back into the ropes. Brunette girl puts up some solid punches, but Brie avoids the majority and her punches are landing, getting Emily into the ropes. Just as Ratajkowski clinches, the bell rings, and the two women return to their corners. Brie Larson takes the opening round on points, wide.

ROUND 2:
The second round starts the same as the first did, with both women circling each other, looking for an opportunity to strike. This time, however, it is Emily who is making the moves early, feinting with her right to bait Larson and striking the blonde with her left. Brie takes a couple of shots as she falls for the feint, but wises up to it and starts counterpunching. Emily goes back to the well one too many times with the feint and Brie punches a straight right that connects with Ratajkowski’s mouth, momentarily stunning the brunette. Larson quickly follows up as Emily is putting up her guard, and the blonde works over Emily’s ribs. Ratajkowski quickly retreats though and trades blows with Larson though, as neither woman has a reach advantage over the other means that when one can punch the other, she can get punched back. Larson seems to be edging ahead in the trades though, as she’s yielded less ground than Ratajkowski at the end of the round, and the judges seem to agree as Larson wins the round, close.

ROUND 3:
Ratajkowski hopes to prevent Larson from taking three consecutive rounds, and she starts out with a good step towards her goal as she goes right after Brie with a left chop to the blonde’s body before following up with a right to Larson’s chest. Larson is caught off-guard and has to adapt as she goes, but she makes good contact with Emily’s ribs, getting two quick shots in on her brunette opponent. The issue for Brie, though, is that she simply cannot match Emily’s strength – and it starts to show. For each punch Larson lands that nudges Emily back an inch, she takes a punch that knocks her back two. Brie starts moving around, launching a couple of punches, then moving back before Ratajkowski could punish her. But Larson isn’t faster enough, and Emily makes sure that Brie pays for any offense, targeting the blonde’s body, and working her with more punching than she was throwing. Larson shifts tactics and starts circling and Ratajkowski matches her and starts to take the initiative with her offense, but she is cut off by the bell. Emily can be seen smiling slightly to herself, as she stopped Brie’s momentum and took the round on points, close.

ROUND 4:
Both women get out of their corners quickly and start circling each other, jabbing at the other woman. Brie connects with a left to Emily’s face early on in the round, but Ratajkowski isn’t fazed and keeps her cool, punching Brie right back with a right. The blonde actress is taken aback and Emily lines up a straight left that catches Larson full on in the mouth, stunning her. Ratajkowski pounces on her opponent and slams home two quick punches to her jaw before Larson fires off a wild right that Emily ducks under before driving a right cross across Brie’s jaw, DROPPING THE BLONDE! Emily moves to the corner as Larson is facedown on the canvas, eyes still open but clearly hurting. The ref starts his count. One. Two. Three. Brie lifts her head up, a grimace etched onto her face. Four. Five Larson groans as she gets her arms under her. Six. Seven. Larson up to one knee. Eight. Blonde plants one foot. Nine. Larson stands up and while she wobbles slightly at first, she quickly sets her feet and the fight continues. Emily tries to press a battered Larson, but nimble Brie smartly gets out of harm’s way. Ratajkowski continues to follow the blonde though, this time tagging her with a smattering of blows, but Brie makes sure that Emily takes a couple of punches in return. Emily is still firmly in control at the bell, and it’s a no-brainer that the round is going to the brunette.

ROUND 5:
Larson is slow to get out of her corner as the previous round took a toll on the blonde. Ratajkowski knows that she has the upper hand and closes distance with Larson, driving short, quick, and powerful punches into the blonde actress’ body. Brie tries to punch back, but Emily is able to dart out of the way and continue punching the blonde into the ropes. Brie pops punches back into Emily, but the brunette’s strength is too much for Larson to try and compete with, and she is forced to clinch. The referee breaks the two women apart and once the fight resumes, Emily turns her attention to Brie’s body, working her chest and ribs with punches. Larson starts to block more and more of Ratajkowski’s blows and starts planting her feet and firing back at Emily. Larson gets in two solid punches before the bell rings, but despite her late resurgence, Emily Ratajkowski takes the round on points, wide, for her early offense.

ROUND 6:
Ratajkowski looking confident as she gets out of her corner, and it’s quite clear that if Larson wants to escape with a win, she’s going to need to change the momentum of the match this round. Emily immediately starts out with her jab and lands a punch to Brie’s mouth, knocking the actress backwards, but when the brunette follows her, Brie catches Emily with a right to the cheek. Ratajkowski growls in response and goes back after Larson, except the blonde starts moving around well. Ratajkowski is repeatedly frustrated as Larson bobs out of the brunette’s path just before she launches a strike, and the blonde is only too happy to stick two punches and retreat. Emily tries to find a pattern to disrupt, but Brie keeps Emily guessing until the blonde throws a left hook. Emily parries the blow easily but doesn’t see the right hook until it’s too late to dodge it and Ratajkowski takes the right straight to her jaw and wobbling her legs! Emily’s vulnerable and Brie can smell the blood in the water and plunges a left into Ratajkowski’s solar plexus that clearly hurts Emily, nearly doubling her opponent over in a matter of seconds. Emily pulls her head up only to take a one-two combo to her chin AND DOWN GOES RATAJKOWSKI! Emily drops to the canvas with a groan as Brie moves herself to a corner.

The referee starts to count. One. Two. Emily is still facedown. Three. Four. She’s trying to push herself up. Five. Six. She’s got an arm underneath her. Seven. Eight. Ratajkowski’s arm buckles and she drops back down. Nine. Ten. It’s over – your winner by KO6, Brie Larson of Fates Boxing!

AFTER:
Brie breathes a sigh of relief as she raises her gloves. Once she’s done with the formalities, she takes one glance at Emily who is sitting up with the help of the VIX staff, then the blonde leaves the ring. The VIX brunette is mumbling in the corner.

“I had her. I had her where I wanted her. Brie and I aren’t done yet – and when we fight again, I’m going to make sure to finish the job.” Ratajkowski keeps on repeating that she had Larson where she wanted her, but couldn’t find her off-switch.

YES! Fates Boxing scores their first victory of the night with this impressive win from Brie Larson! It appears their luck is turning!
