KATHERNE MCNAMARA VS DANIELLE ROSE RUSSELL

Results: Lookout Writing: Archer

Katherine: 23 YO, 5’4 (1.63 m), 3-2-0, 3 KO since 2017, Fates Boxing

Danielle: 19 YO, 5’3 (1.60 m), 3-3-0, 3 KO since 2019, Foxfire Boxing

Before: “Yes they called me ‘Red Kat’ before my last fight,” says auburn-haired Katherine McNamara, “and I won that fight over Ashley Benson. So I think of it as good luck. So now I get to fight Dani Rose who has red hair too. They call you ‘Red Dani’ or maybe ‘Red Rose’ Russell?” (Kat directing that question at an irked looked Danielle Rose Russell).

“I don’t need a nickname to beat you,” snaps Dani, “and I would watch my mouth, Katherine. India Eisely tried to diss me and she ended up on the canvas being counted out.”

“Oh, yeah, India Eisley, a winless rookie cupcake they set up for to beat and look like a decent fighter,” mocks Kat, she is clearly enjoying getting under Danielle’s skim.

Danielle gets red in the face and stomps across the stage to the dais where Kat is standing. Kat coolly eyes her approach. (Dani is in a white tee with red FOXFIRE across the chest and jeans. Kat is in a red tee with FATES BOXING across the chest and jeans).

“Oh goody!” Kat says. “You want a catfight? You going to tear my tee off or go for my hair or maybe both.”

Danielle regains control of herself: “You can push me, McNamara, but I’m waiting to get you into the ring to wipe that smirk off your face.”

“I am not really smirking, you just make me smile because it’s so darned easy to pull your chain. Honestly, I think they should call you ‘Kid Red’ because you are acting like a kid,” Katherine informs the younger woman.

Dani gives Kat an indignant shove which knocks Katherine back several steps. Kat now is the one flushing red and she goes for Dani. The two of them go down in a heap of clawing, punching, kicking and screaming heap. They roll around without reaching a decision before FCBA Security comes to drag them apart.

“I am tired of these girls like Eisely and McNamara who think they insult me and get away with it!” Dani complains later to reporters. “India ended up sorry she did that and Kat will too!”

Katherine says: “The truth is ‘Kid Red’ immature. She can’t take a little ribbing without resorting to attacking me. Of course, I fought back, I don’t take being shoved from anyone! She’s the one who’ll end up sorry she messed with me!”

Most ingénue matches don’t get a lot of attention, but there is nothing like a grudge match to stir up FCBA social media. Fans get excited and enthusiastic when the two approach the ring on fight night.

Danielle is in red trunks with gold trim and a matching red and gold sports bra. Her hair is pulled back in a ponytail. She wears red boots and gloves with gold laces. Interestingly she has KID RED across the back of trunks in gold script. (“I didn’t want any future opponents thinking they could get a rise out me with that nickname,” Dani explains in an Official Foxfire Blog Post. “Besides, the more I thought about it, the more I liked it, even if it did come from that bytch Kat Mac.”)

As for Katherine McNamara, she has selected a red bikini with white boots and gloves (red laces). She has “RED KAT” in white script across the back of her bikini bottoms

The two look each other over as they join the ref at mid-ring. They show signs of distaste, but keep their cool at the instructions are issued by the official. They are supposed to tap gloves, but suddenly this turns into a Test of Strength as the two keeping pushing in, trying to make the other break it off. Crowd gets all excited. Referee breaks it up with some stern finger-waving admonitions. Back in their corners, they stare impatiently at one another and then the bell rings…

R1: Kat and Dani move out quickly with Kat getting in the first blow: a quick strike to Dani’s jaw. Dani counters with a right hook to Kat’s belly and left hook to the chin. Kat and Dani circle each other, exchange fast punches, but then Kat moves in and slaps Dani’s head around with strong rights and lefts to the side of the head. Dani falls back with her gloves up high. Kat striking at Dani’s proud rack to discomfort her and then puts some heavy hooking into Dani’s midsection. Dani is in retreat, trying to jab Kat back, but Kat is now making her duck with shots to the head.. Dani getting driven towards the ropes, but she manages to swerve back to mid-ring. Kat maintaining steady pressure to the bell. Judges mark the round as Katherine’s by a wide margin.

R2: Danielle moves more quickly than Katherine as the new round gets started. She makes a good feint to the left while striking with a right to the jaw that swivels Kat’s head. Kat falling back on trembling legs as Dani pumps quick rights and lefts into her face. Katherine manages to steady herself and defend her now bruised up face, but Kid Red is now going to the body of Red Kat was pounding punches. Kat is hunched up and trying to jab Danielle back, but Dani is circling back and forth to keep Kat under constant punching pressure. Katherine just covering up and not hitting back as the round ends. Danielle wins the round wide.

R3: Katherine and Danielle charged into each other in a quick firing exchange of blows to head and body. Bobbing and weaving around each other, Kat and Dani battled for control of the round. Dani used a series of hooks to the ribs and belly to push Kat back, but then Red Kat rallied and cracked a solid/left right to Kid Red’s chin to put Dani back on her heels. Kat pushed forward with slashing punches to Danielle’s chest and then more hooks into the belly. Dani fought back, driving her counters into Kat’s body and Kat’s attack faltered. Dani and Kat then battled it out with belly busting hooks until they were both hunched forward, but then Kat caught Dani with a clipping right uppercut to the chin to send her scooting back. The bell rang and Katherine McNamara had pulled out a close round.

R4: Danielle struck back in the new round with a rush that allowed her fire strong rights sand lefts into Katherine’s face. Katherine reeled back and Dani ripped her to the jaw with solid rights and lefts. Katherine covered up and tried to pull back, but Red Kat was upon her with grinding hooks ravaged her from belly to breasts and back again. Kat was struggling to counter as Dani now worked to drive her into the ropes, Kat made a stand at the ropes and they fought along the strands with head and body shots, but Dani was not quite able to trap Red Kat before time ran out. Danielle had to settle for winning the round wide.

R5: Katherine seemed a bit slow coming out for the next round, but Danielle was full of energy. She closed in on Kat and hammered her hard to the body. This relentless swabbing of her torso began to double Red Kat up and Kid Red was more than happy to bring uppercuts into the overhanging goodness within Katherine’s bra cups. Then Danielle banged away at Katherine’s head and then back to the body in another effort to forced Kat into the ropes. Kat fought back with the jab and tried to slide along the ropes, but this time Dani cut her off and pressed in. Kat was now trapped and had to huddle against the ropes as Danielle worked her hard to the body. Kat stayed on her feet and managed to make it to the bell. Kid Red stepped back grinned wicked at Red Kat as she peeled herself off the ropes.

“This isn’t over,” Katherine is heard by ringsiders whispering to Dani.

“I say it almost is,” Dani retorts.

The referee comes over to break up the conversation. Katherine straightens herself up and walks determinedly back to her corner. Dani walks calmly to her corner. She knows she’s won another round wide.

R6: Katherine McNamara worked on by her corner during break while trainer urgently tells his young fighter “You got to turn this around.” Kat seen nodding gravely and shooting looks across the ring at Danielle Rose Russell. Dani is chatting with Foxfire trainer Virginia Madsen and looking like she expects to finish Kat in one more round. Then the bell rings.

Danielle comes bounding forward as Kat is slow coming out of her corner. Dani gets ready to unleash a blockbuster right that she clearly expects to find the fight. However Katherine ducks under the telegraphed punch and plants a rising right into Danielle’s chin. POW! Dani goes crashing into the nearby ropes and bounces off. Kat on her and pounds Dani’s face to rubble as she is pinned against the ropes. Dani desperately clinching to force a break, but as soon the action resumes, Kat is back at her and slinging leather into Dani’s head and face. Dani goes face in gloves, but she Kat pounds away at her as Dani is now the one pinned on the ropes. Dani shuddering as the impacts matter and she seems to be holding herself up by sitting on the ropes. Katherine shells away until the round ends. Now Red Kat gets to gloat as a wrecked Kid Red detaches herself from the ropes. Dani so glassy-eyed she doesn’t seem to notice Katherine as she slowly heads for her corner. Kat has a vengeful smile as she watches Danielle go and then heads for her own corner.

R7: The Foxfire corner crew worked on Dani during the break, but trainer Virginia Madsen looked worried. She is seen talking Dani, who is heard to cry: “No! No! I won’t just quit! Don’t let her beat me like that!” Virginia looks dubious, but Dani clutches the older woman’s arms to continue to plead her case. Virginia finally agrees and moments later the bell rings.

Danielle comes out with determination as Katherine comes at her. Dani tries to lunge at Kat, but can only land a glancing blow to the head. Kat swings back with a right to the chin that sends an electric shock through Dani’s body, freezing her in place. Now Katherine goes at Dani hard first with more shots straight into Dani’s wrecked face and then she pounds uppercuts into Dani’s chin. Dani shudders and slumps forward. Kat steps to one side as Kid Red comes thundering down onto her face and lies there in heap. Kat trots to the neutral corner and watches with interest. Dani raising her head as she becomes aware of the referee counting, but then she puts her cheek down on the canvas and slumbers against the canvas.

“EIGHT!...NINE!...TEN!...YER….OUTTTTT!!!”

THE WINNER KATHERINE “RED KAT” MCNAMRA DEFEATS DANIELLE “KID RED” RUSSELL KO7!

After: “Oh, that was a great sight looking down at her on the canvas with her KID RED bikini bottoms looking up at me! That felt really good and, hey, I just realized I am UNDEFEATED in 2019! This is GREAT!” cries a happy Katherine McNamara. She looks over at Dani Russell being helped to her stool for a check-up now that she’s been revived. “She was too proud. You could tell Madsen wanted her to quit after that beating I gave her in R6, but I guess she was afraid call her a ‘quitter’. No, I could see how much damage I did. You got to fight smarter than that if you want to last in this game. She is good, but not as good as me.”

Danielle Rose Russell understandably kept away from the press while her battered face heals. However Foxfire staffer Bailee Madison confides to Archer News reporter Skip Tracey:

“Virginia feels guilty she didn’t just throw in the towel, but I understand she didn’t want to crush Dani’s spirit by a submission when she’s so new. Dani told me: ‘I wanted to go out on my shield—not on my stool and I did.’ Her bruises will heal. She’s a tuff girl. She’ll learn from this and be better for it. Hey, Mary Winstead took some classic beatings, but she became a champion. We’re just the stable to help her bounce back. ‘Kid Red’—I kind of like it. We’ll see if it stays around.”

Intense clash between two promising young flyweights. Katherine McNamara emerged with the win, but Danielle Rose Russell gave her a lot of trouble. Fates Boxing clearly has a fighter whose future they can build on and fans eager to see what “Red Kat” does next. Meanwhile, it looks like a slower path for Danielle Rose Russell, but she does have skills and power. Still, she got careless in R6 and it led to the a beatdown that ultimately finished her in R7. “Kid Red” needs to reduce her mistakes and learn discipline. Fans of both fighters have much to look forward to in Dani and Kat’s next outtings.
