Taylor Swift vs. Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Taylor Swift: 29 years old, 5’11”, 36-16 since 2009, Fates Boxing, Lightweight Champion.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead: 34 years old, 5’8”, 55-44 since 2007, Foxfire Boxing.

Before:

“It’s an honor to be fighting for the lightweight title in my 100thFCBA fight,” Mary Elizabeth Winstead tells the press. “It’s been a long time since I debuted, and I’m thrilled to say that I’m still challenging for the title, even in my 100thfight.” MEW pauses, “Hopefully, I’ll be doing more than challenging for the title tonight though and I’ll be winning it. Taylor’s in her fifth defense so she has proven herself a worthy champion, but I’m hoping that at the end of the night, I’ll be hoisting that belt as champion in my 100thcareer fight.”

Taylor Swift speaks after MEW is finished, “Before I start, I have to say that I want to congratulate Mary on getting to 100 fights and being a challenger a full twelve years after her debut, not to mention her two title reigns as lightweight champion. Now, I don’t care whether or not certain people do or don’t think that I am a worthy champion. The fact is, I currently hold this title. And when I walk out of here tonight, I will still be lightweight champion of the FCBA. MEW is a great fighter, one of the best in the FCBA right now. But I don’t think she can stop me. And if she can, it’s on her to prove it – especially since I beat her last year. So the bottom line is that if she’s going to be champion, she’s going to have to fight harder than she did the last time we met. I want her to bring it tonight – not everyone gets to 100 fights, so let’s make this fight one that everyone will remember.”

As the announcer gets on the microphone to announce the lightweight title match, the crowd grows quiet.

“And now, for the lightweight title match. Introducing first, from Rocky Mountain, North Carolina. Standing at 5 feet 8 inches tall and in her 100thFCBA fight, the challenger looking for her third lightweight title reign, from Foxfire Boxing, Mary Elizabeth Winstead!”

The crowd goes absolutely insane as MEW emerges from the back, wearing a white sports bra and matching trunks with red trim, her gloves black. Fans are waving signs around that say: “100 fights, 3 titles” or “MEW: 1, Swift: 1” and the crowd starts chanting “Mary! Mary! Mary” as the brunette actress makes her way into the ring, laser focused the whole time. The crowd takes a while to settle down but eventually does and the announcer gets back on the mic.

“And her opponent. From Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. Standing at 5 feet 11 inches tall, the reigning FCBA lightweight champion, from Fates Boxing, Taylor Swift!”

The crowd again turns up the volume, but it’s mixed between boos and cheers as Taylor Swift steps out wearing a black sports bra and black trunks with red gloves, her hair up in a bun, the title around her waist. It takes no time for dueling chants of “Mary! Mary! Mary!” and “Taylor! Taylor! Taylor!” to turn the arena into the loudest it’s been all night. Swift unperturbed as she strides confidently to the ring where she takes the title off, raising it only for the crowd to get even louder, before handing it off to the referee. The referee gives the two women final instructions and they touch gloves before the referee calls for the bell and here we go for the lightweight title!

Round 1:

Both women come out from their corners somewhat timidly, trying to get a sense for their opponent. Taylor uses her longer reach to take some shots at the Mary from distance, tagging her in the shoulder and guard. MEW trying to work her way in close to Swift and does so while dodging a jab and driving a quick one-two into Swift’s body she retreats to get out of Taylor’s reach. Taylor remains calm and shoots out a left jab that Mary sidesteps but Swift follows up with a left that hits the brunette in her nose, momentarily stunning her. A moment is all Taylor needs and she lines up a straight to the actress’ mouth, nearly knocking the actress down but the brunette stays on her feet, but now she has to get her guard up as the blonde singer starts to unload. Swift plugging leather into Winstead’s body, driving her backwards, even as MEW connects with a counterpunch. Mary is in the ropes and Taylor drives her punches into the challenger’s ribs, but Mary is able to squeeze out of the ropes and lands some of her own punches, but Taylor quickly regains control of the round and chases Mary around the ring in the waning moments of the round. The bell rings and the two women go back to their respective corners, with MEW visibly frustrated as she knows that Swift won the opening round on points, wide.

Round 2:

The second round starts with Taylor going after Mary, abusing her extra reach to hit the challenger. But MEW is an experienced fighter and doesn’t let Swift get very far with her strategy by sitting just outside of the blonde’s range. Swift keeps up the pressure and looks to close the distance between the two fighters when Winstead picks her moment and beats Swift to the punch – literally – and connects with all of a right hook to Taylor’s chin. Swift clearly affected by the punch and looks for a response, but Mary is too quick for the champ and. She snaps another right to Swift’s head and the champ is getting pummeled into the ropes despite her punching MEW’s body. Mary fires off rapid punches to Taylor’s body, driving the air out of the blonde’s lungs. MEW’s eyes are ablaze as she senses that she can win her 100thfight and nab the title in the same fight, and she’s not letting up until Swift clinches and the referee forces them apart just before the bell. MEW returns to her corner with her jaw set, eyes intense as Swift goes back to the Fates corner shaking her head. Mary takes the round on points, wide, evening us up in this title fight.

Round 3:

Mary and Taylor both come out of their respective corners energetically, but MEW is bouncier on her feet as she looks to get in close to Taylor and go back to the champion’s body. Swift aware of Winstead’s strategy and she makes sure to not lunge or leave herself vulnerable and give MEW an opening. Winstead patiently waiting for a solid opportunity to lay into Swift, but the singer is doing a good job denying that opportunity and slowing the pace of the fight down with smart circling and well-placed punches that quickly go out and then come back just as fast. Taylor making contact while keeping Mary at arms length for the first minute, but Winstead starts reacting better to Swift’s rhythm and tags her with counterpunches whenever the blonde goes on the offensive. Taylor keeps at it though until her brunette opponent badly fools the champ with a right feint only to smack her with a left – the first punch that really connects with either woman this round. Winstead follows up with a right that barely catches Taylor on the chin and the champ gets her guard up and drops out of MEW’s range. Mary pursues the champ for the rest of the round but isn’t able to get more clean shots on her head before the bell, although she does go back to the blonde’s body. It’s a close round, but Mary takes it thanks to her stronger finish.

Round 4:

Taylor jumps out of her corner and gets in an early one-two, smacking Mary in the face, but when she follows up with a hook, nobody’s home and MEW absolutely smokes Swift with a right. Taylor is stunned and she gets shocked back to reality when the brunette pops a left into Swift’s nose and the blonde is reeling as on comes Winstead. Mary not letting up as she turns the screws and fires out lightning quick punches that pound every inch of Swift’s legal flesh, and does Mary drive Taylor into the ropes really quickly and keeps her there for longer than Swift wants as the blonde desperately tries to fight back until she elects to clinch. Taylor worse for wear as Mary is bouncing around after the two women are separated and wasting no time in going back after the champion. MEW darts in with a quick left that Swift parries but the blonde leaves herself exposed for a follow up right and back she goes into the ropes! Swift’s butt is in the ropes and she doing all she can to hang on through Winstead’s onslaught as the actress sees the vulnerable champion and lays into her guard, but Taylor stays strong until the bell mercifully rings and she gets a reprieve. For the third consecutive round, Mary takes it on points, and she does so this time in dominating shutout fashion.

Round 5:

Swift breathing more heavily than she would like as she wills herself up from the stool. Winstead meanwhile is trying to suppress her smile as she sees the champ struggling and she launches out of the Foxfire corner like there’s nothing that can prevent her from taking the title this round. Nothing, that is, until Taylor slips in a fast right that catches Mary unaware and suddenly MEW is looking less confident in her position as she backs out of Taylor’s range. Winstead cautiously moving to circle Swift reciprocates, trying to fake Winstead with a feint but Mary calls Swift’s bluff and pounds a right into the blonde’s ribs. Mary swings a massive right hook at Taylor’s head but the champ dodges at the last second and goes to Winstead’s body, knocking the air out of her lungs as the brunette looks for a response but can’t connect with any solid punches back on her opponent, though she is making contact. Swift looks to press her advantage but Winstead stonewalls her for the final seconds of the round, but she can’t do anything to prevent the champ from winning the round.

Round 6:

Winstead now the one to get off from her stool a bit more slowly as immediately starts trying to get Swift to circle at the start of the round. Taylor plays ball and the two women circle, trying to get the other woman to leave herself vulnerable first, but both women being conservative, not wanting to take the full force of a punch from the other. Swift starts taking advantage of her extra reach and tags the challenger flush in the face with a right and quickly following with a left that rocks MEW as the brunette staggers backwards. Taylor senses a vulnerable challenger and another successful title defense and goes in firing off uppercuts to finish MEW. Swift barely missing with her big shots when her head gets swiveled by a vicious punch from Winstead. Blonde singer taken aback and now on comes the brunette actress and the crowd starts making more noise as MEW unloads on Swift. Winstead hammering away on Swift’s guard and into her ribs, forcing the air out of the singer’s lungs as the lightweight champion looks for a way out and is saved by the bell. Swift may be walking back to her corner with a narrow advantage in the round, but Winstead is making sure that her 100thfight isn’t a pushover.

Round 7:

Winstead hitting her stride now as she takes it to Swift from the opening second of the round and smacks the champ with a right that stuns Taylor and MEW clocks her with a left, staggering Swift. The crowd starts roaring louder and louder as Winstead tees off on Swift and the blonde’s punches barely register back on the challenger. Mary keeps it tight and baits Taylor and the blonde lunges only to leave her face exposed and take a right straight to the chin AND DOWN GOES SWIFT AND THE CROWD GOES WILD! Mary quickly back to the corner as the champ is on her belly, trying to pick herself up. Taylor shaking her head as the ref is counting over her and she thrusts herself up at eight. The ref waves on Mary Elizabeth Winstead and the brunette goes back to blonde body as Taylor covers up. MEW driving leather into Swift’s ribs as Taylor looks desperately for a response, missing her left and then connecting with a right that has just enough on it to nudge Winstead back. Mary steps right back up and takes a booming right to the nose. Winstead staggers a bit and Swift lines up an uppercut that DROPS WINSTEAD ONTO HER FACE! It’s a double knockdown this round and now it’s Taylor’s turn to go to the corner as the referee counts over Winstead. Mary looking at Taylor, a pained expression on her face as she slowly works her way back onto her feet just before the ref counts nine. Swift comes back in with a left – no, she faked Winstead and absolutely smashes her right into Mary’s solar plexus and the brunette is nearly doubled over. The crowd is chanting Mary’s name for encouragement, but Swift snaps Winstead’s head back up with a left and drives Winstead into the rope where she absolutely is wailing away on Mary’s fading guard. MEW trying to do something, anything, to stay in the fight but a big right from Swift drops Winstead’s guard and now gets in two punches to the face AND THE REF STEPS IN! He’s seen enough and your winner by TKO7 and STILL lightweight champion, Taylor Swift!

After:

Some boos can be heard as Swift raises her arms, but man does the blonde look exhausted. Meanwhile, the Foxfire staff is tending to Winstead who has been gently helped down to the canvas where she is resting. Taylor fixes the title around her waist and waves to a couple fans before going over to a now-standing Winstead. Taylor embraces Mary and the two women exchange a few words before Swift steps back, takes Winstead’s hand, and raises it, and the whole crowd applauds the actress in her 100thfight. Taylor lets go of Mary’s hand and claps as well and Winstead waves to the crowd before she embraces Swift one last time before the two leave the ring.

“Mary is a fantastic fighter. She brought it tonight, she really had some moments tonight, not to mention her career up to what was her hundredth fight.” Swift compliments her opponent. “Not many women make it to 100 fights, and she deserves props for fighting the best the whole time. I hope she gets her winning streak to get a spot in the Hall of Fame.”

When asked Kate Upton, Taylor Swift calmly responds, “Kate’s been on my radar for a while. But ask me about her after the November PPV, won’t you? I have a title defense between now and then, and before you ask, I do not know who it will be against – I will be looking at the options and making a challenge soon.”

With that, Taylor gets up and leaves, having extended her title defense streak to five matches and acquiring the Queen of the Ice Hotel title as well.

Shortly thereafter, Winstead makes her way into the press room. “I’d like to thank Taylor for offering me a title fight for my hundredth match. Obviously, I wish I’d come away with the title, but Swift fought hard, and she won. I’m glad to still be fighting though, and I’ll be here as long as I can hang with the best, which I hoped I proved tonight.” Mary smiles and heads out with the Foxfire staff.
