ANA ALICIA VS JANE SEYMOUR

Retro Bout Ca. 1984

Ana-Alicia: 28 YO, 5’5 (1.65 m)

Jane: 33 YO, 5’5 ½ (1.66 m)

Results: Lookout Writing: Archer

Before: According to noted Celebrity Boxing scholar K.O. Kapowski: “There are a lot of sub-divisions to celeb boxing that most fans may not realize exist. You take Jane Seymour, most movie fans think of her as a Bond Girl because she was in ‘Live & Let Die’ in 1973 and that is where she got her start. How ever by the late 70’s she started doing made for TV movies and mini-series and she built up a quite a reputation in that niche which was not the same as network series TV.. Now that made her an opponent up and coming prime time soap actresses like Ana-Alicia (“Falcon Crest”) wanted to fight and promoters were eager to have on their cards well into the 1980’s. Jane could be particular when and who she fought so it was a real plum for Ana-Alicia when this fight got made in 1984. Of course, there is that old saying about: ‘Be careful what you wish for…’.”

According Kapowski’s notes that accompanied the videotape of this event, it was held at a high-end gym in Beverly Hills that catered to female celebrity boxers and which staged cards as a promotional tool. These were usually invitation-only affairs and dressing well was expected. The tapes were a lucrative sideline for which celebrity boxing film archivists can be grateful.

Ana-Alicia appeared first in a gold one piece swimsuit with white gloves and boots (gold laces). Her dark hair in a ponytail with a gold ribbon.

The veteran Jane was in a blue one piece suit with light blue gloves and boots (black laces). Her dark hair was in a ponytail, no ribbon.

The referee for the evening was retired celebrity boxing veteran Julie Adams who looked pretty good herself in black shorts and striped referee shirt. Julie conducted the ring instructions in an efficient manner. Then a ring girl appeared with a “Round One”placard. After the ring girl completed a circuit of the ring. (The ring girl would carry out this assignment just before the start of each round of the fight. The bell sounded.

R1: The younger Ana is out quickly and putting pressure on the veteran Jane. Ana trying to dance around Jane, confuse her and keep a steady stream of leather landing. Ana seems intent on working Jane’ flanks, she hammers those side ribs over and over. Jane keeping cool, countering with some jabs, but she seems to be sizing the new girl up. Ana now goes to the midsection with a series of hooks. Jane firing back with sharp hooks to Ana’s breasts and then she digs into the younger woman’s stomach with strong hooks. Ana knocked back on her heels as Jane starts to move forward behind more body punching. Then Ana lands a hard right to the jaw and Jane staggers away on shaking legs. Ana scrambles in pursuit. Jane tries to shake off the jaw shot and hold Ana at bay. Ana now going to the midsection and forcing Jane to give ground. Jane fighting to stay off the ropes, but Ana is pushing her back. However time runs out and the bell sounds. Referee Julie has to push Ana off Jane (who does not look happy about this). A close round, but judges give to Ana-Alciia.

R2: Jane Seymour moved quickly to the attack as the new round began. She now went for Ana Alicia’s stomach and ribs with a pounding attack that quickly had the younger woman bent forward. Now Jane struck to the head with rising uppercuts that put Ana in a hasty retreat. However Jane stayed on the battered Ana and now was back to working her to the belly. Ana was pushing out some desperate jabs to try to hold Jane off, but Jane was fighting through the defensive blows to keep the punches striking home. Ana-Alicia was able to steer away from the ropes, but she worked over steadily to the bell. The judges had no trouble deciding Jane Seymour had won the round easily.

R3: Ana-Alicia seemed to regroup during the break as she came out punching hard and fast at the bell. Jane Seymour had been coming rapidly, but she was doubled up by a lunging right hook to the belly and then smacked hard by a let to the jaw. Jane fell back as Ana poured in the punches mainly to the body, but enough surprise head strikes to keep Jane confused and slow to respond. Jane did try to strike back, but each time, Ana-Alicia fought through the counters and maintained the pressure. It soon became Ana was moving the beleaguered Jane, driving her back into the ropes and once she finally had her there, went to work. A storm of punches slammed into Jane’s body as the veteran covered her face and head. Ana-Alicia was working hard to cut Jane down, but the veteran’s legs would not buckle (and she was using the ropes themselves to keep herself up). The bell rang. Ana-Alicia stepped back. She knew she had won the round easily.

R4: Roughed up in the previous round, Jane seemed a bit wary as the new round started, but Ana-Alicia seemed eager to pick up where she left off. Ana went straight at Jane with a flurry of shots to the head, but Jane moved quickly to dodge the shots while striking back with sharp jabs that cut into Ana-Alicia’s face. Ana’s attack quickly faltered and Jane now began to work the younger woman’s jaw and chin with a series of right/left combos mixed with uppercuts. Ana was pushed back on suddenly rubbery legs and now Jane went to the belly with smashing hooks. Ana doubled forward and now her face and head came under fresh attack. Ana was now in retreat, but Jane was able to cut off the ring and very neatly drive Ana into the ropes. Ana tried to clinch to break up the attack, but Jane would move back and then drive her back with a fresh wave of punches. Ana was reduced to huddling against the ropes, face in gloves and letting Jane pound her to the body until the bell rang. Jane smiled unpleasantly as she watched a shaky Ana-Alicia leave the ropes and move unsteadily back to her corner.

R5: Now it is Jane eager to get in there and try to finish off a roughed up opponent. However Ana-Alicia is waiting and as Jane throws her big right finisher, Ana ducks under it and hammers her own big right into Jane’s chin. JANE CRASHES ONTO HER FACE! Ana-Alicia skips aside and smiles at the veteran sprawled at her feet. Then as Referee Julie Adams moves in, Ana-Alicia heads for the neutral corner and looks back expectantly as Julie counts over the fallen Jane. However, Jane quickly gets to all fours and seems to be trying to clear the spinning lights out of her brain. Then she rises to break the count at “NINE!” Ana-Alicia slaps the top rope she’s leaning against in frustration. Jane is giving her a wolfish grin and waves her gloves “come-and-get-me!” even before Julie Adams can officially order the action resumed. Ana-Alicia looks steamed at the defiance and wastes no time in getting across the ring to put the veteran down for good. However Jane charges forward and brings that big right as a hook driving into Ana-Alicia’s stomach. Ana jackknifes as the blow doubles her up and her own momentum as made the impact more severe. Jane then unloads one uppercut after another into Ana’s unguarded chin and DOWN GOES ANA-ALICIA! Ana lifted off her feet and sent toppling to the canvas. Jane looks down with that wolfish smile and then trots to the neutral corner. Referee Julie on the spot and the crowd looks to see if Ana-Alicia can make it up. Ana stirs and tries to roll to her side, but falls back and lies there, gloved hands at her face as though trying out the awful reality of what’s happening.

“NINE!...TEN!...YOU…ARE…OUT!” Julie Adams pronounces and then goes over to raise Jane Seymour’s arm in victory.

THE WINNER: JANE SEYMOUR DEFEATS ANA-ALICIA KO5!

After: “This was a big win for Jane! It showed at 34 she could still beat younger up and comers,” K.O. Kapowski notes. “It was really impressive she could get off the canvas and knock Ana out barely a minute later. Of course, Ana was showing rookie recklessness in rushing in like that, but she was always a fighter who liked to go at an opponent all-in. Sometimes that backfired like it did here. Sure glad a copy of this fight turned up. It was a neat one.”

We think Mr. Kapowski said it all very well. Ana-Alicia was far from discouraged by this setback and was apparently soon back in action. Jane Seymour continued to show why she was one of the most dangerous and challenging veterans that young fighters could take on in the 1980’s.
