BREC BASSINGER VS DANIELLE CAMPBELL

Results: Lookout Writing: Archer

Brec: 20 YO, 5’2 (1.57 m), 4-0-0, 4 KO since 2019, Holloway Boxing

Danielle: 25 YO, 5’3 (1.60 m), 24-11-0, 24 KO since 2014, Pretty Little Punchers

Before: “I am always glad to take a rookie for a test run,” says Danielle Campbell, “especially one from my old CW stomping grounds. ‘The Originals’ may be gone, but I welcome the chance to fight their new ‘Stargirl’.”

Brec eyes the older young woman with suspicion: “That so? I hear it’s because you like to fatten your record on gullible rookies.”

“I never called you ‘gullible’,” Dani says a bit too sweetly.

“Well, I’m not all that much a rookie. I’ve had 4 fights and won them all. Last time out I beat Mila Kunis. I know you’ve lots more fights than I do, but I can take you out, too.”

“I like a rookie with confidence. It makes it sweeter when I crush that confidence and put them on the canvas,” Dani says still using that irritatingly sweet voice.

“Personally, I like it when I can upset one of you veterans and show you’re not as hot as you think you are!” Brec retorted in a spirited fashion.

“But I AM as hot as I think I am—as you will find out,” Danielle assures her.

“You conceited bytch!” Brec bursts out.

“Watch your mouth, young lady!” Dani snaps.

“You started it,” Brec points out, “but, OK—I take back the ‘bytch’ part. You’re still conceited.”

“Possibly, but it’s not conceit if you’re as good as you say you are—and you don’t get to call me ‘bytch’ until you really get to know me,” Dani said.

“Then, I guess we’ll settle this in the ring,” Brec said.

“That’s my good rookie. Some day maybe we’ll have a good top tearing, hair-pulling catfight, you really need to build up the animosity for it be a good one,” Dani advised.

“Thanks, I’ll remember that,” Brec says warily.

Come the night of the fight, Brec comes to the ring in a red one piece swimsuit with white gloves and boots (red laces). Her hair is pulled back in a ponytail. Dani to the ring in a yellow one piece with black gloves and boots (yellow laces). Dani’s dark hair is in a French braid intertwined with a yellow ribbon. The ring instruction formalities proceed smoothly. Gloves are tapped. The fighters go to their corners. Pause. The bell rings!

R1: DC and Brec out of their corners and start to probe each other with quick punches to get things going. Then Dani goes for the head with move-in-move-out smacks to Brec’s jaw. Brec gets her gloves up high to protect her head. Dani then goes to midsection with jolting hooks that put Brec up on her toes as she tries to back away. Dani pressing Brec hard, now trying drive punches between Brec’s gloves and then back down to the abs. Brec being steered towards the ropes, trying to fight back with her jab, but only slowing Dani advances. Dani finally able to push Brec’s back against the cable and hammer away to the body. However time runs out and Brec sags woozily against the ropes as DC steps back. Round wide to Danielle Campbell.

R2: Brec answers in this round by solid right to the chops at the outset that rocks Danielle. Brec quickly works uppercuts into Dani’s chin and she’s got Dani backing up. DC trying to get her jab going, but Brec is fired up and attacking with spirit. DC getting shelled hard to the head and body and the next thing you know she’s the one driven into the ropes! Brec seizes the opportunity to punish Dani to the body as DC goes face in gloves to protect her head. Brec using Dani as a human heavy bag as she slams in the punches to the shivering body of the older girl. Bell finally sounds and Brec steps back to survey the damage she’s inflicted on Dani. DC slowly peeling herself off the ropes gives Dani a defiant smile.

“Not bad,” ringsiders here Dani say to Brec, “but I’m still here.”

Brec wrinkles her nose and turns away. Dani slowly heads for her own corner. Judges give the round to Brec Bassinger by a wide margin.

R3: Action resumes with Brec again on the attack and she continues to direct most of her attention to Danielle’s body. Fresh waves of leather work DC over from breast to belly and back again. Very thorough scrubbing attack that soon as Dani all hunched up and defensive. DC does manage to shove out some countering jabs when Brec ventures in too close, but Brec shifts to circling around Dani while smacking away steadily (mainly off Dani’s head and into her side ribs). Brec then starts trying to work DC into the ropes once again, but Dani slipping away and using jab to keep Brec at bay. Round ends and Brec books her second round wide.

R4: DC now challenging Brec Bassinger as they clash at mid ring. DC bobbing and weaving, stabbing at Brec to the body. Brec going for Dani to the head and does manage to bouance a shot or two off DC’s head, but she’s an elusive target this round. Brec then charges in close behind a barrage of body punches, but Dani holding her ground, countering with body punches of her own. Two are quickly toe to toe and pumping in the leather. Punches slamming into ribcage and up into the breasts, but then hooks to the belly become the new focus. Both fighters tipped forward from belly banging and referee is obliged to push them apart at several points. Brec then makes a fresh effort and seems to get extra power into her hooks as she forces Danielle to slowly give ground. Intense battle down to the bell. Judges give it to Brec, but by a narrow margin.

R5: Out they come for the 5th Round and DC appears ready for more body work. However, as Brec starts to react the impending torso punching, she suddenly smashed hard to the jaw by DC’s right/left combo. Brec struggling to pull herself together after being rung up, but Dani gives her no respite, pouring on the head shots until she’s got a wobbly legged Brec covered up and being driven into the ropes. Brev going face in gloves as she tries to slide along the strands, hoping to make a break, but DC now slamming in the body havoc with sheets of pounding leather that soon has Brec writhing under the barrage. Brec finally wraps her arms around DC o force a clinch, referee pushes them apart, but not before DC gets some extra short right hooks into Brec’s midsection. Brec panting hard as Dani resumes attack and once again Brec is on the ropes under relentless attacks. Bell finally ends the ordeal for Brec who sags wearily against the ropes as Dani marches away to her own corner. Danielle Campbell wins round wide.

R6: Brec getting intense repair work from her corner during the break, but she is moving slowly out of her corner at the bell. Danielle not rushing Brec, moving around her, darting in and out with quick flurries of punches to body or head. Brec trying to counter, but sluggish in her reactions. DC seems to grow convinced she’s got Brec hurt and now strikes, feinting with the left hook to the belly, but using her right to nail Brec to the jaw. Brec’s head swivels in a spray of sweat and she reels off to one side. Dani moving smoothly with Brec unleashes lefts and rights to the head and jaw. Brec reeling, stumbling and then crashes onto her knees at the ropes. She claws at ropes, but then slumps to lie in a heap next to the bottom rope. Dani hops to the neutral corner and watches as referee begins to count. Brec trying to beat the count, gets to her knees, but then sags over against the ropes in a seated position with a sad expression on her face.

“NINE!...TEN!...YOU’RE OUT!”

THE WINNER DANIELLE CAMPBELL DEFEATS BREC BASSINGER KO6!

After: Danielle warmly congratulated by Janel Parrish, Ashley Benson and Hayley Atwell as well as PLP trainer Nia Peeples. Danielle then goes across the ring to the Holloway corner where Brec is recovering on her stool.

“Now you know what it’s like to lose,” Danielle says cheerfully, “but you really need the full experience.”

Brec’s eyes widen as she realizes what DC means, but the next thing she knows, she’s on her feet and her right arm is hammerlocked behind her back by Dani

“Hey! You don’t have do that!” Brec complains trying to get her arm free.

“I want you to have the full experience. Now come along!” Dani says and gives Brec a swat on the bottom. Brec yelps indignantly, but starts moving.

Dani then guides an increasingly unhappy Brec around the ring, waving like a pageant winner, and stopping for fan photos with Brec. They circuit the ring ending back at the Holloway corner. Dani now releases Brec’s right arm. Brec stands there, rubbing the circulation back in her arm and glaring at DC.

“I hate you!” Brec says.

“You’ll thank me some day—now you know why you don’t want to lose around here—and believe me there are worse things that can happen to a fighter post-fight,” Dani replies coolly.

“Gee, thanks, I could never have figured that out on my own,” Brec growls.

“I just thought I’d shorten the process. Now get a shower, find a picture of me, put it on a wall and start throwing darts at it. Works for me,” Dani said cheerfully.

“I’ll be glad to do that,” Brec said, but sounded confused. “I guess we’ll see each other again.”

“If you want. Numbers in the book,” Dani says and strolls off leaving Brec looking confused and exasperated.

Quite little contest as journeywoman Dani Campbell gives a boxing lesson to rising rookie Brec Bassinger. Lot of encouraging signs from Brec, though she was eventually felled by the more experienced Danielle. Holloway and Brec should not be too dismayed by this setback and fans look forward to seeing her action again soon. Meanwhile Danielle Campbell finds herself with a four fight winning streak and prospects for successful 2020 as she climbs the Flyweight Division ladder.
