KARA KILLMER VS SHAY MITCHELL

Results: Lookout - Writing: Archer

Kara: 31 YO, 5’5 (1.65 m), FCBA Debut, Knockout Babes
Shay: 32 YO, 5’7 ½ (1.71 m), 28-28-0, 26 KO since 2011, Pretty Little Punchers

Before: “I know I am taking a chance in making my debut against a 9 year FCBA veteran like Shay,” says Kara Killmer of the NBC series “Chicago Fire”. “But I told my management that I wanted someone tough. Someone who would really challenge me. Shay Mitchell certainly fits that bill. I am not some 21 year old rookie, I have had some indie celebrity boxing experience, but Shay is the real deal. If I can do well against her—that will be great. If it doesn’t go so well—at least I’ll know how much more work I need to do. I admit I am nervous, but I am still looking forward to this.”

“You know I was once a rookie myself,” says Shay Mitchell, “and I know how exciting and how scary that can be. I take it as compliment that Kara wants to start with me. She’s right I am tough, but I like to think I’m a clean fighter. She’ll have her chance, but I will not hold back. She’s right, she needs to know just where she stands at this point in her career and I am the fighter who will help her find that out—whether she likes it or not.” (Shay smiles at this last).

The fight night finds Kara Killmer in a navy blue high-waisted bikini with matching blue gloves and boots. Her long blonde hair is in a ponytail. Shay has chosen a black high waisted bikini with white gloves and boots (black laces). Shay’s dark hair is pulled back in a French braid. Kara looking eager to go, Shay with that veteran calm, as they both listen to the referee’s instructions. Tap o’ the gloves and they are back in their corners. Kara jogging in place. Shay steady, but alert. The bell rings.

R1: Out of her corner, Kara Killmer comes shooting and she plows right into a startled Shay Mitchell. Kara’s elbows moving like a high speed piston rods as she hammers Shay to the body and tries to back her into her own corner. Shay struggling to get her arms free enough to punch as the rookie now crowds her back against the turnbuckle. Shay pounded steadily to the body and then Kara rattles her with uppercuts to the chin. Shay finally just wraps her arms around Kara and the clinch results in referee intervention. Kara still intent on keeping Shay crowded in her own corner. Shay finally able to get her jab going and tries to make some breathing room for herself, but Kara is is ignoring the jabs to keep the pressure on the veteran. Shay manages to keep her back off the turnbuckle, but she takes a lot of punches before the bell sounds. Kara Killmer is beaming with pleasure as she heads for her round. Shay Mitchell looking more than a little winded and stunned by the rough treatment she just went through. Doesn’t have far to go to her stool though. Round goes to the rookie Kara Killmer by a wide margin.

R2: Kara all but bouncing on her stool as she chats excitedly with her trainer during the break. Meanwhile, Shay is worked on by the PLP corner crew. Shay has a grimly determined look on her face as she talks things over with her trainer. Bell rings and both fighters come out.

Shay is particularly fast away from her corner, evidently not about to let herself get blitzed again by the rookie, and Kara is still coming at her fast. Kara trying to punch her way in close, but runs into Shay’s fully deployed jab. Kara smacked up hard in the face and then gets hooked deep to the belly. Kara’s advance brought to a halt. Now Shay moves on Kara. She works Kara steadily to the belly and ribs until she has Kara bent forward. Then Shay brings uppercuts slamming into Kara’s overhanging breasts and face. Kara falling back and trying to straighten up. Kara’s high guard looks disorganized and Shay opportunistic drives straight right between Kara’s mitts and hard into her face. Kara’s head knocked back and she stutter steps backwards. Shay then rams a right, then a left uppercut behind Kara’s loosely held gloves and into her chin. Kara suddenly goes limp and topples backwards. DOWN GOES KARA KILLMER! Kara lands on her back like a felled tree. Shay trots off to the neutral corner as the referee moves to count. Kara does stir, pushing herself up on her elbows and looking around in a woozy “what just happened?” fashion. She realizes she’s down and struggles to rise, but can’t seem to get her body to cooperate. She makes a desperate struggle, but can’t beat the count.

“NINE!...TEN!...YOU’RE OUT!” cries the referee and Kara sits up and then hangs her head in misery as she realizes the fight is over and she’s lost.

THE WINNER: SHAY MITCHELL DEFEATS KARA KILLMER KO2.

After: Shay comes over to Kara and helps her to her feet, then gives the unhappy rookie a hug. Shay then goes back to her own corner where she is congratulated by Lucy Hale, Janel Parrish and trainer Nia Peeples.

“Kara is an aggressive fighter and that’s a good thing,” Shay later comments to reporters, “she really surprised me with that opening blitz, but I am sure she now realizes you got to think about defense, too. We’ll all see if she learns from this and I hope she does.”

Kara herself says: “I have a lot to think about after this fight. I can see now I do have a lot to work on and I am just glad I have this organization behind me. I know I am better fighter than this fight showed and they are the people who can help me be the quality fighter I know I can be.”

Sudden end to Kara Killmer’s debut fight has to be a blow to the newcomer, but she did show fighting spirit and she did lay some hurt on the veteran Shay Mitchell. Kara has likely learned the hard way that mistakes in defense when you are up against an experienced fighter can end your night really fast. Hopefully Kara can quickly bounce back from this. Meanwhile Shay Mitchell can feel good about adding second straight win to her 2020 and no doubt is hoping to build on towards a future bantamweight title shot.
