Bridget Regan versus Sarah Lancaster

(Words: Bazz / Results: Lookout!)

Before: “It’s been a few years but I haven’t forgotten. I lost one of my titles that night. I’m not saying that it wasn’t fair and square. Anyone will tell you that’s the way it goes in the FCBA. What I’m saying is I’ve got a chance to avenge that loss and I’m going for it. I think Sarah has been one of the top fighters since I’ve been fighting so this is a challenge I’ve been looking forward too.” Bridget Regan eloquently replays her title fight with Sarah Lancaster in front of the herd of reporters.

“She’s a power legend no one’s going to dispute that, but I got it done when we had our one and only fight and I intend on doing it again tonight. I’ve stayed as fit as anyone in welter country, including muscles over here.” Lancaster draws a slight chuckle out of Regan as she wraps up her pre-fight talk. “I know I’m still operating on all cylinders as a fighter, and there’s a reason Bridgy Regs has only fought me once, everyone including her knows I’m more than capable of pulling out a win tonight.” Neither fighter spends much time in the pre-fight talk. They both know the other very well and there’s respect between them, something that just doesn’t exist in a flyweight tilt.

Both women are truly fit. Sarah in a green bikini, black gloves and boots and Bridget in all black. Each women wearing their hair back in full battle ponytails.

Rd 1 Both fighters out punching hard, living up to the big girl credo. Bridgy jabbing, slamming Lancaster with quick left hands. Sarah coming back with right hands underneath to the body. Regan moving to her right on the balls of her feet, dancing around Lancaster who is standing her ground moving ahead with some very quick hands. Bridgy shifts to a right hand roundhouse but Sarah times it right throwing her own right hand buggywhip catching Regan in the torso. Crowd jumps to its feet watching Bridget bend to her side. Sarah follows up with a left uppercut that nicks the Bazz girl’s chin driving her back against the ropes. Sarah all over the defensive Bridgy Regs going big girl thump! thump! thump! punishing the body and arms while Regan covers up. Sarah out of the gates like the first fight with the ref watching closely. Regan bobbing and weaving against the ropes with plenty of gas still in the tank but the round is clearly Lancaster’s.

Rd 2 Bridget moves around the ring with purpose. She seems to be dancing in a pattern. Lancaster a bit confused until Regan strikes with a two punch combination. Sarah hit with a jab to the chin and a right hand that lands on her left torso. Regan enraged at her slow start bullies Lancaster back against the ropes. She’s working inside hammering away to the midsection. Lancaster takes a swing up top, one of her first of the fight, and misses badly as Regan leans back and lets the fist whistle by. The crowd lets out a groan but immediately roars to its feet as Bridgy Regs goes mid-section, mid-section, chin on Sarah with her right hand. The three punches are snapped off with blinding quickness and typical Regan power. Sarah sent reeling lucky to have survived the electric jolt of the combination. Up against the ropes she withstands Bridget’s punches that can be felt twenty rows back into the arena seats. Regan dismantling Lancaster with some serious bombs. The round ends with a resounding advantage, Bridgy Regs.

Rd 3 Regan out under control, not overplaying her hand. She’s stalking Lancaster with jabs and a new maneuvering style that she is becoming more and more familiar with using. Sarah getting back together is stepping in with punches to the body. Both fighters moving around each other now. Sarah counterpunching hoping to keep Regan at bay. Suddenly she scores with a two punch combination to the chin. Regan replies with a stiff jab that seemingly stops Sarah right in her tracks. The pace quickens bringing the crowd to its feet. Regan dancing on the outskirts looking like a lightweight with a new found agility and footwork. She’s chasing Lancaster down and looking to score with a number of combinations while Sarah is having a lot of success by finding openings and counterpunching. She hits enough body to actually squeak out the round, amazing after nearly meeting an early end to the fight from the previous round.

Rd 4 Lancaster getting loose again and seeming to regain her confidence. She’s smooth moving around the ring and snapping off jabs at Bridget. Regan staying calm throwing her own left hand to score from the outside. Both girls circling until Regan throws in with a forward left legs and powerful right hand roundhouse that connects to Lancaster’s side. The wince is heard loud and clear from Sarah as Regan keeps up the pressure stepping up into Lancaster’s grill with a three punch combo that pushes the welter backwards on her heels. Yet instead of moving in to muscle Sarah into the corner or against the ropes Regan keeps space between the two of them putting some leverage on her punches. Sarah ducking and staying on her heels while Bridgy Regs works out with her jabs and right hand attack. Momentum shifts once again in this fight as Regan takes charge towards the end of the round.

Rd 5 Fight has become a rather even back and forth between the two fighters. Lancaster looking robust as she shuffles into position and starts out throwing some aggressive punches. Regan knocking them down and tries to get into her opponent with her own combinations. Each fighter doing a great job of keeping up an exceptionally quick pace. It’s all punch, dodge and weave coming from both fighters as things are opening up. Lancaster launching some long distance jabs followed up by right hand bombs. The crowd noticing that she’s getting a bit reckless and is anticipating Bridgy Regs to take advantage of any openings when suddenly Sarah catches Regan with a strong right hand to the jaw and REGAN”S IN TROUBLE! Bazz girl waltzing around the canvas stepping into fence posts with Lancaster in hot pursuit. Sarah launches more combinations leading with her right hand with Regan ducking down taking the punishment. Sarah drives into Bridget trying to score with an uppercut but Regan’s not done. She pushes Sarah away and burrows in clinching against the ropes and holding off the assault until the bell rings.

Rd 6 Bridget bounds out of her corner looking absolutely enraged. She moves right in on Lancaster. Sarah hoping that frustration will cause a mistake takes a couple of well placed steps backwards and to the right trying to set up a counterpunch combination. Instead she gets a whole lotta Bridgy Regs with the redhead adjusting and busting out a vicious jab reaching across and tagging Sarah square in the head. Sarah reacts with her own right hand and the two fighters go toe to toe now with defense shields down. Bridget catches Sarah with a right hand while Lancaster counters with her own uppercut. It’s really on now as the girls go hammer and tongs. Bridget starts to impose her overpowering strength. She’s catching Lancaster with a flurry of punches that seem to come close to knocking Sarah right off of her feet. It’s all fists and elbows until Regan launches a left then a right to the head. Sarah stubles forward and then, another right. DOWN GOES SARAH! Bridgy Regs catches Sarah Lancaster with three punches to the head and it’s nappy time for the pretty brunette. The ref counts to ten, quickly cleaning things up and it’s a 6th round KO for your winner Bridget Regan!

After: I knew that I had hurt her in the second round. That three punch right hand combo was cool! We’re doing so many new things over at Bazz it’s great!” Bridget smiles sheepishly. “She’s tough though. Sarah’s always been so good. She hasn’t changed much. With that being said it has seemed to be one step forward and then one back lately. That’s got to change. Give me a few more months and I’ll be back. Physically I’m great. I just have to get back into gear up here.” Bridgy Regs knocks her hand against her noggin as she pops up from her stool and heads over to give her old friend Sarah Lancaster a hug.
