Annette Funicello vs Yvonne Craig

This bout was the beginning of one of the biggest rivalries in Hollywood boxing circles before the formation of the FCBA. Annette Funicello and Yvonne Craig will be boxing for the first time tonight.
This bout takes place after their working together on Ski Party for AIP. The rumors were that these two had taken an intense dislike to one another and it was mutual. There were rumors of multiple catfights, hair pulling, threats, and top tearing.
A large arena in Hollywood was filled for this bout with fight fans and a lot of cameras.
The footage from this bout is amazing; it looks to be shot like a heavyweight championship bout from the era, with 3 or more cameras. And it is in color.
The referee for the bout is Elizabeth Montgomery who is wearing tight black short shorts and a striped sleeveless top.
Yvonne came first in the ring and wore a floral orange bikini with brown gloves.
Annette walked between the ropes next. She was in a white one piece with brown leather gloves.
Round 1 & 2:
The two split the first two rounds widely, Annette won the first and Yvonne the second. Both attacked the racks of the other in the round of their wide wins. Annette used a great head fake that got her inside on Yvonne in the first. Craig got even in the second by bopping Funicello’s head with some uppercuts that put the spectators in mind of a heavyweight bout. There were multiple great exchanges during the two rounds that had the fans up and out of their seats. It did strike the audience that these two were like the boxing robot toys as these two were just swinging away at each other for the first two rounds.
Round 3:
Annette came out quicker after dropping the last round widely. She used her gloves to work into Yvonne’s breasts with some short straights. Then she went to Craig’s face with some uppercuts of her own. AND CRAIG GOES DOWN! Annette stood over her before Elizabeth directed her to a neutral corner. Funicello watched as Montgomery counted. Yvonne rose by the count of 6 and was checked. The fight continued with Yvonne having to defend better as Annette came back in on her. Yvonne did block some heavy shots but Annette took the round widely.
Round 4 & 5:
Yvonne was better in the fourth as she surprised Annette and the crowd by being first with 2 hard straights into Funicello’s chest. Soon she had Annette backing up and having to defend. Craig kept up the punches and soon another firefight in a bout full of them broke out. Again both fighters gave excellent punches and got tangled up in close. Elizabeth broke them apart and the bout continued. Yvonne won the round widely.
Annette got some new instructions in her corner before the 5th round and immediately got them into action as it opened. Now she popped Yvonne’s face with two uppercuts which caught her unaware. Now Funicello was backing Craig up with her gloved fists. Yvonne ties up with Annette and the boxers are soon broken up by Montgomery. Again Yvonne had to get her gloves up and moving as Funicello was back on her. Funicello took the round widely.
Round 6:
Both boxers came out on their toes for the sixth round. Yvonne caught Annette with 2 hooks to her chin as the round began. That caused her to back away and defend against Craig and her gloves. The two threw some more hard punches toward each other but Yvonne seemed to be having the edge as Funciello’s head swiveled a couple times during the exchanges. Craig then went to corner Annette by getting her to the ropes. AND BOXING IN A PHONE BOOTH! Both are swinging away at each other for excitement is seen at ringside. Yvonne seemed to be in control now as the fire fight was slowing down. Annette seems to be backing down but Yvonne goes back to her face with a right uppercut and left cross. Funicello is then smacked with two more hooks to her breasts. Craig throws a couple more and ANNETTE GOES DOWN! She leans and then falls onto her back. Montgomery, who was close by, ushers Yvonne away and to a neutral corner. Craig went there and watched as the count began. Annette was up on her elbows at the count of 3 and sitting up at 5. She pulls the ropes to aid her and she seems to rise but she is too slow as soon 10 is counted and knockout is said. KO 6 – Yvonne Craig.
After:
Fight fans cheered as Yvonne came out of the neutral corner. Annette walked to her corner to be attended to.
The cameras capture all of this and more as Elizabeth stands next to Craig and then raises her glove in victory.
Yvonne smiles and poses but the bout shows on her and Annette. The fans saw a great bout between these two and it was shown by cheers and applause.
This was the first of many bouts between those two.
