TESS VALMORE

The March PPV was a huge card that featured title fights in all four of the divisions. I figured there would be one title change and there was one. It just wasn’t the one I expected. I expected Palicki to lose her title. She didn’t. Instead it was Swift, who is no longer the title holder. Palicki defended her title with a eight round KO. After being close to a title fight many times, DiDonato finally got the shot and made the most of it dethroning the reigning queen. The surprising fight of the night was the bantam title fight. Spears, coming out of retirement for this one fight, gave Lilly more than she wanted.. It was a back and forth fight with Spears winning the odd rounds and Lilly the even. Lilly having gone down in the ninth came back in the tenth to score a TKO with just seconds left on the clock. This was Lilly’s 100th fight and she will be inducted into the Hall Of Fame shortly. In the other title fight Watson defended her title with a win over Cyrus.

In the welters Ferguson and Upton moved to the head of the line for a title fight. Courtney Tailor won her fight to retain a spot in the top ten and dropped Lawrence out of hers. Hannah Davis should move up in the ranking with her win over Strijd but not as high as the top ten.

Lightweight action was relatively light. Teles continued her impressive debut with a win over Cuoco who ability to win fights has rapidly deteriorated. Lopilato upset Ambrosio. Peregrym handed Lipa her second loss and halting a four fight win streak.

In the bantams, the big wins were scored by Kosarin and Scodelario. The two are obvious choices for a title match. There well could be a bout between the two to see who gets it. Bella Thorne also won but she just lost the title to Lilly.

In the flyweights, the big wins were by Scarlett Johansson defeating Lavigne to my delight and Ariel Winter's win over Panettiere. Portman won a tough fight while Vanessa Hudgens and Michelle Williams had fairly light opposition.

It’s interesting that in early returns of the views, The GOAT, Charlize Theron fight ranked a fifth out of 40 bouts. Only three title fights and the Kendall Jenner fight ranked higher. This has been a trend for a number of PPV’s.  While she doesn’t rank that high in the ultimate count, she seems to well among early viewers.
