BEFORE: Selena Gomez gets another crack at the Pretty Little Liars cast members having fought Ashley Benson and Lucy Hale when she was down at flyweight before but she might have just missed Shay Mitchell at her absolute worst. The Canadian stunner crawled through 2019 season with a miserable 1-7 record but bounced back in style knocking out both Elizabeth Olsen & Kara Killmer earlier this year:

"Yeah, I'm back! I suppose Selena reached out for a low-hanging fruit but she is dead wrong! I'm still as tough as they come! My schedule was uber-tough last year but I'm right where I truly belong now! Selena made some noise down at 110 lbs but she's punching waaaay above her weight here!" (giggles).

Selena ignores the vibe she should have stayed at flyweight and claims weight-cutting ordeal was becoming too draining for her to keep bouncing off the conditioning wall: "Look, I'm not that Waverley Place teenager anymore! Hell, Vanessa Hudgens is over 30 years old herself! Man, where did all that time go away? Okay, I sound like an old-timer but I can't be stuck in the mud forever! I'm like the best fighter who never won a god damn FCBA title! It's time to change that sooner rather than later!"

Selena Gomez wears a turquoise bikini set with white trim & black gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Shay Mitchell wears a yellow crop top, red hotpants & brown gloves. Long black hair tied in a braid. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.

Round 1:
Selena jumps into a high-octane jabbing assault which is supposed to catch the Canadian off guard but Shay finds her slugging range and tags the American on the nose before blasting her on the belly button which makes the younger woman squeal in pain! Huh! Shay drives her mitts into the exposed tummy thereafter and backs the stunned Gomey onto the ropes where more pesky hits drill her midsection only for the clinch to come to her rescue! Mitchell shakes the fellow brunette off though and whacks her up the middle securing a double uppercut connection on the chin that leaves Selena shaky at the bell.

Round 2:
More jabbing menace from both sides but this time the precision goes away and the girls cut thin air before Selena lands a nice hook on the temple that wobbles Mitchell backwards. The PLP brunette tries to push off her heels but fails to find her range and Gomez knocks her about with more pesky jabs. She tries to thump her onto the ropes but gets clinched herself and spun to the side as Shay drives another good harpoon into the ribcage. Selena strikes back and blasts an overhand on the nose before a wild uppercut tags the Canadian on the nose and makes her think better off it.

Round 3:
Shay pulls ahead with a jabbing steam and outworks the otherwise committed Selena who's unable to shake the older brunette off and eats a nasty double on each temple before Mitchell wobbles her backwards with an uppercut stinger. Selena tries to bounce back but is simply too slow for the charging foe and eats a scything cross on the nose as Shay barks in her efforts to cash in on the head-hunting opportunity. She dissects Selena's high guard and pounds her onto the ropes where she drills the exposed tummy as Gomez tails off behind a desperate earmuff. Three strikes on the bounce and Gomez scowls in pain as Shay NAILS her with a brutal uppercut on the nose THAT SENDS THE AMERICAN DOWN on the spot! Big time punch floors Selena who takes her time down on all fours and looks vunerable even when she climbs back up at eight. Shay wants to finish her off like right now but the clock runs out before she finds another jackhammer to put the icing on the cake.

Round 4:
Selena is clearly rattled by the knockdown and spends majority of the round in desperate avoidance while Shay taunts her verbally once her initial jabbing plans misses the target. Uh-oh! The PLP stunner is very much back after a dismal 2019 season and traps Selena along the ropes where the spooked prey simply has to respond in a slugging fashion. She cracks a couple of good shots but Mitchell is glued into her face and tries to find that monster haymaker again. She skims off the top of Gomez's forehead too often though and gets clinched into safety as the Lioness coach Eva Mendes looks very worried in the corner.

Rounds 5 & 6:
Shay builds on her advantage and stalks the seemingly vulnerable opponent in back & forth fashion before finding her comfort zone punching the younger brunette in the guts. Selena slumps into a clinching struggle far too often to make a proper comeback but she slows down Mitchell's progress and lands a good combo on the liver area to sign off the fifth. She roars back into the Canadian's midsection in the sixth after another phone booth wrestling drains Shay out and spins her onto the ropes where an accidental head-butt leaves the older woman scowling. Shay plugs an uppercut drive into Selena's breasts but eats a nasty overhand on the brow ridge and wobbles into a jabbing response which snaps her head back & forth allowing Gomez to steal the round in the closing stages.

Round 7:
Shay looks a little gassed now but she still holds a clear lead on the cards; Selena pounces on her with more jabbing menace and begins to win all these mid-ring exchanges when she flicks another double on the swollen brow ridge that suddenly becomes a problem for the older brunette. Mitchell drops the head-hunting plan and blows it into Selena's midriff again but gets outmuscled in the phone booth and eats a brutal hook on the solar plexus which spins her onto the turnbuckle. Ugh! She tries to swing back but Gomez gets there first and tears a bloody gash over the swollen eye. Uh-oh! Mitchell slumps into spasms right there in the corner and Selena gallops into her ribcage to leave the Canadian yelping in pain come the bell.

Round 8:
Shay is simply furious here and decides not to protect the scorecards but she runs into an overhand buzzsaw that nails her on the wounded brow ridge. She turns to the other side trying to protect the area but then eats a crippling hook on the solar plexus and turns back into a brutal uppercut on the chin!!! MITCHELL IS HURT!!! She wobbles forward with a loud whimper only to get drilled by another big uppercut on the jaw THAT SENDS HER CRASHING DOWN ON HER BACKSIDE moments later!!! Ugh! Shay hits the deck hard and has a tough time getting up! She fails at the first attempt and barely defies gravity at the second effort but suddenly there's more blood pouring from the wounded brow ridge and the ref shockingly - or not - waves the bout OFF!!! TKO8 Selena Gomez in come-from-behind fashion!!!

AFTER: Shay stumbles back to the ref's arms and tries not to burst into tears while Selena blows her a kiss and turns back to coach Eva Mendes: "So much for this witch sending me back to flyweight! We got some power here!"

It's tough to say whether Selena has enough staying power to make a run at the bantamweight straps anytime soon but she's determined to make it work. Meanwhile it's a tough loss for the PLP entourage as Shay has seemingly shaken off the terrible 2019 vibes and looked set to blow Gomez away until she run into fitness issues and suffered a bad cut on the eye that derailed her hitherto dominant afternoon.
