Margot Robbie vs. Leah Dizon

Results: Lookout!; Story: Front Street

BEFORE:

Blonde/brunette tilt, and there's no question who the favorite is. Robbie a girl who's beaten top bantams and had title shots, while Dizon has shown flashes, but hasn't come anywhere near catching fire. That being said, blonde isn't taking the brunette lightly. "She can fight," says Margot with a nod. "She moves well and she's got power. Is she in MY league? Of course not. But. She can fight."

"Here's the thing," Leah says with a smile. "People underrate me, because I maybe haven't had as many fights as other girls. But. I AM in Robbie's league. And, I'm about to prove it."

ROUND ONE:

No contrast in styles here. Both fighters like to move forward behind the jab, and that's the plan early. And, it's the blonde who gets it done. She's getting the left on, stepping in behind it, backing up the brunette, forcing her to fight off the back foot. That's not Leah's game at all, and it shows. Dizon out of sorts and not getting much done, as Margot gets into a nice rhythm. Stunning blonde showing all the skills that have led her to be mentioned again and again on lists of the best fighters who haven't won an FCBA title. She's looking every bit of championship caliber as she boxes her rival around the ring, scoring with both hands, playing slick defense, and keeping Dizon at bay. Game brunette finally lands a solid shot in the final seconds of the round, but, by then, Margot's built a big lead. Blonde takes it wide to to up 10-9.

ROUND TWO:

Dizon adjusting her game a bit. She's angling now, moving more, not allowing Margot to square her up. Result is more ranged boxing, and that's working for the brunette. She's no longer getting backed up, so she can get some offense going, and that makes a lot of difference. Leah not able to take control, mind. But, she's created a two-way round instead of the one-sided blonde domination of the first stanza. Things are pretty nip and tuck the whole way, with both fighters scoring and neither able to gain much of an advantage. Late, Robbie lands a hard combination, but Dizon fires back with one of her own that shakes the blonde just before the bell. Leah doesn't have time to follow up, but when all is said and done, she's done enough to claim the points and even things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Ladies at range. Dizon continues the movement and angling, frustrating Margot's attempts to walk her backward behind the jab...BOOM! Right-hand, LEAH! Dizon finds the sweet spot with a nasty right and Margot is HURT! Robbie stumbles backward into the ropes, and they are the only thing holding her up! Brunette making with the heavy leather. She's hammering way with both hands, trying to get the blonde out of there. Ref watching as Margot hangs on in a high guard, taking heavy fire. Robbie hearing it from her corner starts firing back here and there, and probably just in time, as the ref was looking like stepping in. He's still on a hair trigger as the brunette thumps away looking to finish. But, the blonde makes it to the bell. No doubt about the round. It's Leah wide, and Dizon now leads 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Dizon right after Margot, backing up the still-wobbly blonde, letting her have it with flurry after flurry of punches. Robbie backing, covering, playing defense, clearly still buzzed. Dizon taking full advantage, still looking to finish, but also piling up points and BOOM! Right-hand counter, ROBBIE! And Leah is HURT! Dizon rumblin' stumblin' fumblin' all around the ring. Robbie shifts from reverse into gear and goes after the brunette, battering her back into the ropes and having at her. Now, it's Dizon in the tight guard, rolling with punches, hanging on, doing just enough to prevent the referee from stopping the thing. Margot all about the finish. She's pouring on the pressure, but, try as she might, she can't get Dizon stopped. Leah's, like Elton John, "Still Standing". But, Margot's got the round wide, and we are now even again, this time at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

NOW Margot's doing what she wants, like in the first round. She's getting that left jab on, walking Leah down behind it. Buzzed brunette giving ground, keeping the guard high, taking a thumping, but clearly playing for time. She's not moving well, but she is able to block and roll with some of the heavy fire the blonde keeps tossing her way. For Robbie's part, she's definitely looking to finish, but she's staying sound and patient, punishing Dizon while scoring loads of points and searching for the 'off' button. Leah doing a good job of keeping that switch hidden from view. She's all defense, but she's somewhat effective. Just, however, somewhat. Because Margot's landing punches in bunches, scoring with flurries of hard accurate fire right to the bell. It's a shutout for Robbie in the fifth, and the blonde pulls into the 48-47 lead.

ROUND SIX:

Robbie still rolling, still getting what she wants. Dizon now firing back more often in counter, but that's all she can manage. She can't stabilize her front or get on the front foot. And, the blonde continues taking full advantage of that. She's getting hard shot on with both hands, moving Dizon around the ring as Leah works, successfully, to stay off the ropes. About half way through the round...BOOM! Right hand, Margot and DOWN GOES DIZON! Leah dropped flat to her back by a NASTY right hand! Aussie to a neutral corner. Referee counting down on a stunned Dizon. Leah staring up wide-eyed as the numbers get higher. Rolls to her belly at seven. Tries to push to hands and knees at eight, but slumps back down to the canvas and it's OVER! And, your winner by KO6 is Margot Robbie!

AFTER:

Margot exuding confidence in the post-fight. "What you just saw is a future champion showing why she's going to be champion. As I said, that girl can fight. But, she was no match for me. Because, so few are. So very, very few."
