RAQUEL POMPLUN VS LAURA VANDERVOORT

Results: Lookout Writing: Archer

Raquel: 32 YO, 5’7 (1.70 m), 0-1-0 since 2019, Latina Knockouts

Laura: 35 YO, 5’6 (1.69 m), 36-38-2, 26 KO since 2007, Foxfire Boxing

Before: “This will be my debut under the management of the Latina Knockouts. I am very excited and I want to show how right they were to sign me,” says Raquel Pomplun at the pre-fight presser. “I only have one other fight—the one I lost to Jenny McCarthy last year. Jenny Mac shows no mercy especially when you mouth off around her like I did. Not going to make that mistake twice. I have nothing but nice things to say about Laura Vandervoort, although I am not quite sure who she is.”

Laura V not amused: “Look up my resume some time, bimbo, and you’ll see should shouldn’t mouth off around me either.”

“Now did I call you a ‘bimbo’?” Raquel asks innocently. “Just because I was 2013 Playmate of the Year there is no reason to be jealous.”

“Jealous? Of you? Please, you should be grateful I agreed to this fight,” Laura says dismissively.

“Oh, I am, I assure you, and you can call m ‘Rocky’ because I plan on being as big success in the ring as he was,” said Raquel.

“You got rocks in your head if you think you can beat me,” Laura snapped. “I know how to deal with mouthy bimbos just as much as Jenny Mac did.”

“Yes, but I have learned a lot in the past year. You may be in for a surprise,” Raquel replied.

“I really doubt that,” Laura said flatly. “And you can try explaining to your new manages why your boxing still sucks.”

“Now that’s something I really doubt I’ll be doing. See you in the ring,” Raquel said with a smirk.

The night of the fight found Raquel Pomplun coming to ring in an aquamarine one piece swimsuit with black gloves and boots (aquamarine laces). Her dark hair pulled back in a top knot on top of her head. Laura is in a black and mesh body suit with a halter top. White boots and gloves with black laces. Her hair is in a braid down her back. Chilly, but correct ring instructions are gotten through promptly. Raquel and Laura tap gloves and go to their corners. The bell rings…

R1: Laura V on the attack as the fight gets under way. Quick smacks to the ribs, then she raises her sights and pops a cracking right to Raquel’s jaw. Raquel ducking away, trying circle back as Laura comes at her again. There is sharp exchange of blows to the jaw from both fighters and both are put on their heels. However Laura recovers more quickly and rams hooks hard into Raquel’s gut. Raquel doubled up and then Laura brings rising uppercuts in Raquel’s overhanging face and breasts. Raquel pulling back to regroup, but Laura now swatting hard at Raquel to the sides of the head and then with hooks to the belly. Raquel not able to get her jab going until late in the round and very shortly thereafter the bell rings. Laura Vandevoort wins round wide.

R2: Laura continuing to be very aggressive with the rookie. She is hammering Raquel to the head and body while moving her upper body to blunt counters. Raquel stubbornly trying to cope, but she is not able to disrupt Laura’s timing. Laura seems to be enjoying keeping the rookie confused about where the next punch will strike. Raquel’s jab is working better, but though she is scoring against Laura’s chest. It’s not enough to discourage the blonde veteran. Round ends with Laura smiling and Raquel scowling. Judges give the round to Laura V by a wide margin.

R3: Raquel and her trainer seen in urgent consultation between rounds. Can’t hear what’s said, but when the bell rings. Raquel goes on the attack for the first time tonight. Raquel moves swiftly across the ring and does a nice fake-out, making Laura think a left to the head is coming, when it’s a right that crashes into Laura’s jaw. Laura sent spinning away and Raquel tries to swarm her with punches. Laura suddenly on the defensive as punches are coming at her high and low from all directions. Raquel suddenly looks very dominating, but then Laura brings a right uppercut in under Raquel’s chin. Raquel’s head snaps back and she recoils as Laura spring forward with a counterattack of her own. Raquel fighting back and the two are blasting each other to the face until they are both bloody and swollen. Neither fighter backing down as the punching suddenly shifts to some rack attack blows to the juggs. Nasty flurry of jugg mugging, but again Raquel showing she can take this sort of punishment as well as the veteran Laura. Bell sounds and he referee has to push the pair apart. Both with bloody, swollen faces and they exchange defiant glares before going to their corners. Judges call this one a DRAW.

R4: Raquel and Laura are patched up during the break and come out ready for action. Laura tries to strike first with shots of Raquel’s head, but Raquel smoothly dodges these and fires accurate jabs that bust up Laura’s face once again. Stung and dripping blood, Laura falls back and now Raquel goes after her to the body with solid, controlled hooks that start driving Laura up on her toes. Laura now the one trying to keep a rampaging opponent off, but Raquel got the range and her body blows soon have Laura doubled up. Raquel banging away at the sides of Laura’s head to the bell. Laura looks rubbery legged and shaken as she stumbles away towards her corner at the bell. Raquel has a satisfied look as she strides to he corner. As well she might, Raquel has won this round wide.

R5: Laura worked on by the Foxfire corner during the break and she comes out with an aggressive look. However Raquel boldly takes up Laura’s challenge as they circle each other firing flurries of punches at head and body. Stays even at first, but then Raquel gets more hooks into Laura’s midsection and the impacts seem to slow the blonde veteran down. Now Raquel counterattacks pumping more shots into Laura’s juggs and ribs. Then as Laura’s gloves comes down, Raquel brings a crushing right to the jaw, left to the chin and LAURA VANDERVOORT FALLS ONTO HER SIDE!. Raquel hastens to the neutral corner. Referee moves in. Laura hears the official count and struggles to rise, but she can’t seem to get body to obey her brain. She tries to rise, but falls back down and lays there weeping in frustration.

“NINE!...TEN!...YOU ARE OUT!” proclaims the referee.

THE WINNER RAQUEL POMPLUN DEFEATS LAURA VANDERVOORT KO5!

After: Raquel screams in delight as she hears her victory proclaimed. Then her arm is a raised by the referee. Raquel so happy she even goes over helps the woozy Laura Vandervoort to her feet and gives her a big hug before escorting her personally to the Foxfire corner.

“This is so wonderful! My dreams are coming true!” Rebecca tells Archer News reporter Skip Tracey. “I don’t know when or who with my net fight will be, but I can’t wait for it to happen!”

“Kid hits like a truck,” Laura Vandervoort ruefully comments later, “plus she can take a punch—actually a whole lot of punches and hang in there. That might not work for her every time, but it sure did with me.”

Intriguing fight while it lasted. Laura Vandervoort seemed to be have little trouble dominating newcomer Raquel Pomplun in the first two rounds. Then Raquel’s corner got her fight with aggression and once she started, Raquel just kept it up until she had Laura broken and beaten in R4. Very promising Latina Knockouts debut and Raquel’s new fans are looking forward to her next outing. As for Laura V, it is never good when rookie beats a veteran like Laura and it starts talk that the popular blonde beach fighter doesn’t have what it takes to win anymore. A very sad thought indeed. We will all have to wait and see how this develops over the remainder of the year.
