Missy Peregrym vs. Anllela Sagra

Results: Lookout!; Story: Front Street

BEFORE:

Two of the top lightweights in the FCBA and two of the most physical squaring off in what promises to be a fantastic contest. Missy turned a rocky 2018 that had some folks wondering if the the-36-year-old were past it into an excellent 2019 and a great start to 2020, all on a path to the Hall of Fame. Sagra, meanwhile, rocketed up the charts and has spent the last three-plus years proving herself to be an elite light in every sense of that term. And, while both fighters are showing plenty of respect for the other coming into this contest, neither is lacking confidence. "I never bought into the whole 'Missy is on the way down' thing," Anllela says with a smile. "An athlete like her, still in top condition? She wasn't slipping then, and she's not slipping now. But, even at her peak, she's still not as good as I am."

"There have been lots of girls over my 15 years here who've come rising up through the ranks to challenge me. Some have lasted. Some haven't. But, they've all found out that challenging ME wasn't the best idea."

ROUND ONE:

Did someone say "athlete"? Missy on the move in the first, bouncing around the ring, jabbing, dipping, slipping, ranging around, slipping inside for a quick body-head flurry, sliding away to the outside to get her box on. This is classic Missy, showing the full range of what she can do, and Sagra's always a step behind. Anllela can't find the older woman with her jab, she can't get to spots to punch, and, as a result, she can't get anything going offensively. Younger brunette's taking a thumping, but she's working hard, trying to find solutions. Trying. Not finding. From the opening seconds to the final bell, it's Missy who's in control, and, when the bell rings, Peregrym BOUNCES back to her corner. She's taken the first wide and grabbed the 10-9 lead. She's also made quite the statement.

ROUND TWO:

Sagra getting more aggressive. She's moving more, cutting the ring, bringing Missy to battle and making with the heavy leather. Peregrym banging back aggressively as a series of heavy skirmishes breaks out through the first half of the round, with Anllela getting the better of things. Second half sees Sagra consolidating gains. She's tossed Missy to the defensive. Former champ on the back foot, giving ground, as the younger brunette comes forward and punishes her to head and body. Missy tying up, backing up, covering up, getting touched up. Anllela in full control down the stretch, snaps back Peregrym's head with a hard right hand that sends sweat flying. Missy covers up on the spot and Sagra bangs away at her right to the bell. It's Anllela wide and another statement made. On the cards? 19-19.

ROUND THREE:

Sagra pushing forward, but Missy's got an answer. She's snapping the jab in Anllella's face, using a drop step and circle to keep distance, getting her dance on like she did in the first. Sagra again eating punches in her efforts to square up Peregrym, who's boxing and moving beautifully. But, this is no "you can't catch me" kind of thing for Missy. She's stopping and popping, slipping inside to land solid shot. She's getting hard leather on, to both head and body, while pretty much denying the younger woman the chance to do the same, leaving Sagra, again, a step behind. Anllela keeps working hard, doesn't get frustrated, but can't get anything turned around. Missy's in control right to the bell, and, when it rings, Peregrym has the round wide and is back in the lead 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Missy moving. Anllela coming forward, cutting down angles and the ring, creating heavy firefights. Peregrym holding her own during these, but not in control as she was the last rou...BOOM! Right hand, Anllela! And Missy is HURT! Peregrym steppin' in fence post holes as Sagra begins calling in artillery strikes! Missy quickly backed into the ropes and taking as Anllela loads up every punch for maximum effect. Sagra looking to put a stop to this thing right now, and she's near to doing it. Ref looking in closely as she bangs away with both hands. Missy in a tight guard, body on sale. Sagra buying, but only here and there. She's mostly working upstairs, trying to get the stoppage one way or another. Somehow, though, the Canadian thwarts her attempts, making it to the bell. Anllela's taken the round wide, of course, and we're now even at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Sagra pushing forward and pushing Missy around. She's letting the older brunette have it with both hands, getting hard shot home, looking to get the Canadian out of there. Peregrym managing, giving ground, jabbing back here and there, trying to slow her rival down. Anllela relentless, though. She's got her rival on the run and she's determined to finish her off...BOOM! Right hand counter, MISSY! Peregrym sets the feet and LACES Sagra with a brilliant rejoinder and DOWN GOES ANLLELA! Sagra dropped flat to her back, stunned, but, perhaps, no more so than the crowd. Missy to a neutral corner. Sagra shaking the head, getting to her feet at seven looking plenty unsteady. Ref looking closely as he gives the younger brunette the mandatory, but he waives on Peregrym. And HERE COMES MISSY! She's BOMBING Sagra with everything she has, forcing her back into the ropes and absolutely STRAFING her with heavy fire. Ref looking in, on a hair trigger, as the Canadian lands heavy shot after heavy shot and IT'S OVER! Ref leaping in to bundle Sagra to safety and it's OVER! And your winner by TKO5 is Missy Peregrym!

AFTER:

Missy battered, bruised, but clearly pleased. Another big fight win and another step closer to the Hall of Fame. But, she's not thinking much about the latter. "That's not the focus, no. What I want is to get the gold again. And, the way you do that is to beat girls like Anllela. Like I just did."
