Intro:
The final fight in the first round of the European Cup tournament sees a battle between the two longest allies in the world, Portugal's Sara Sampaio and England's Cara Delevingne lace up the gloves to fight it out here in Ireland's national stadium.

The form books say this should be a tough fight for both, neither coming in after lighting the world up in the past twelve months, fact they are similar builds lends to that fact too.

Before the fight both women were interviewed at the press event for this tournament, Sara and Cara were both on the stage to build to this contest in tight dresses, they shook hands as there didn't appear to be any malice between them.

"Anyone who knows me knows I wear my countries badge with real pride, this tournament is for more then just myself, I want to bring home the gold cup to my country and see the face of all the pound people there" says Sara as she is asked what this tournament means to her.

Cara is asked the same question, she answers "I won't pretend I am fighting purely for my nation, this is a tournament where I can finally break out after a let's say hard time of things, I love my country but it is me in that ring, not anyone else really"

Then Cara turns to her opponent, telling her "I also haven't forgotten you beat my best friend Suki, I owe you a little something for that" with Sampaio staring harder at the London lass now.

"You are always welcome to try Cara, I am not going to be pushed around so easily, I hope you realise that" replies Sara as Cara just smirks with a nod, before both women leave the stage.

Fight night; out first comes Sara with her coach behind her, she is wearing her Portugal football shirt with "Sampaio" on the back with the number nine underneath, she is looking all smiles as she jogs down the aisle towards the ring.

Getting help from her coach to take off the top, Sara is revealed to be wearing a maroon sports bra with a Portugal badge on the right bra cup, maroon trunks with green stripes down the sides, matching shoes, green gloves and her brunette hair tied into a ponytail.

Stepping into the ring, Sara blows kisses to the crowd as she heads to the corner, beginning her warming up when she is in her corner, her coach telling her to do her corner proud.

Now out comes Cara with her coach behind her, she struts down the aisle as she doesn't acknowledge the crowd, just focuses on the ring as she looks like she is working a catwalk.

The English lass is wearing a white sports bra, white trunks with a red saint Georges cross pattern, white shoes, red gloves, while her blonde hair is tied back into a braid.

Hopping on her toes as she climbs through the ropes into her corner, Cara stretches her arms as she keeps her focus on her opponent, the importance of winning this fight clear as day in her demeanor.

Coming to the center of the ring, both shake their limbs to keep loose, staring straight into each others eyes as they listen to the final instructions by the referee.

There's no incident when they touch gloves up, jogging back to their corners, when they are both ready the bell rings to start 10 rounds of lightweight action.

Round 1:
"Ding" both have a similar style that is on show from the bell, up on their toes trading jabs, looking to control the outside, problem is they both have the same reach so land equally hard punches.

Cara is the first to switch things up, feinting a left so she can duck down to land in two left hooks to the body, taking a straight to her forehead to push her back.

Back comes Sara with a jab to the mouth of Cara, she misses with a follow up right cross as the Brit ducks down, slamming an overhand right to the cheek of Sampaio.

Heading into the final minute with Cara looking great with her upper body movement, Sara catches her with a right to the ribs as she steps inside.

Letting their hands go on the inside, Sara grinds her head into the forehead of Cara, the Brits complaining as the referee splits the two women apart.

At the bell the fighters turn back to their corners, Cara gets a quick sip of water as her coach tells her to keep fighting smart, she nods as she looks focused on the task at hand.

Round 2:
Coming back out to trade jabs again, Cara is throwing more punches into the abs of Sampaio, trying to push back the Portuguese fighter to the outside of the rings.

She dips down and takes two cross punches to the top of her head, Cara looks to take a step back to reset, Sara though is straight in her face to knock her backwards.

Turning the tempo up, Sara is forcing her opponent around the outside of the ring, both land some crisp punches into the others face, it is Sampaio though landing the better punches.

Past the half way point and Delevingne manages to slip a straight to make her way off the ropes, landing a counter double jab into her fellow models cheeks.

Before Cara can build back up her rhythm, she misses with a left cross, taking three body shots to make her groan, getting bullied back to the ropes goes the English fighter.

Where she remains till the bell rings seconds later, both fighters giving their opponent a cold stare before heading to their corners, knowing they are in a competitive fight tonight.

Round 3:
It is another evenly fought start to proceedings, getting passed or around the others reach is proving an early problem for them, with their cheeks taking the brunt of the fists.

Digging down into each others bodies when they decide to battle on the inside after a fruitless first minute, it is looking a mistake for Cara as Sara uses her left forearm to bump her back, opening up for an uppercut that rocks back the English girl.

Cara tightens her guard as she is beaten onto the ropes, Sara swinging hooks into the ribs of her opponent, making Cara hiss as she is forced to clinch up with Sampaio.

They resume fighting after being broken apart, Sara looks like she is trying to break down Cara on the inside with body work, allowing her to keep Cara aimed at the ropes as she takes the ring center.

Though Cara is landing some nice cross punches to the top of Sara's head, an uppercut digs into the abs of Sampaio only seconds before the bell rings to make her groan out loud.

Back in their corners, the Portugal team corner is looking excited by how things are going, though they know this isn't going to be a cake walk, they can see Sara is beginning to bully back Delevingne.

Round 4:
Looking to keep the pressure on her opponent, Sara is throwing more combinations as both women are unloading more punches at a time, the crowd standing to cheer when both plant their feet for a moment to slam several punches into faces.

Separating for a moment to plan their next attack, Sara goes to dip down to move inside, Cara sidesteps her to her right, bashing a straight into the right cheek of the Portuguese fighter to push her back a step.

It looks like after a minute that Cara is using Sara's aggression against her, taking a few clean hits across her ribs and cheeks, landing some nice hooks and uppercuts in reply to stop Sara rushing into her face.

A missed right hook by Sara earns her a left across her cheek under her eye, a small cut forms as Cara's eyes light up, she slams a double jab into it as she looks to open it right up.

Sara tightens her guard up now as Cara moves side to side, mostly head hunting with her punches, switching up though to land some nice body shots as she takes a few punches to the top of her head.

At the bell Sara returns to her corner, where her team work on the cut, while it isn't in a bad place it is still stinging for Sara, she is told not to worry too much about it.

Round 5:
While she is being told not to worry about the cut, Sara definitely is trying to protect it as Cara keeps targeting it, Sara nearly uses it to her advantage as she just misses with an uppercut as the English lass comes on the attack.

Sara manages to come back inside as she works the body with several short sharp digs, she complains when Cara pushes her to the face where the cut is, the referee warning Cara to keep it clean or points will be taken off.

They resume fighting with a minute gone, Sara goes to step inside with a straight, missing though and taking a clubbing left to her temple, she is blinking as that seemed to rock her.

Not needing an invite, Cara hammers in two straight punches into the face of Sara to reel her back into a corner, SARA MISSES WITH A RIGHT HOOK AND IS OPEN TO AN OVERHAND LEFT THAT SLAMS INTO HER TEMPLE, DOWN GOES SAMPAIO ONTO ALL FOURS!

Pumping her left fist into the air, Cara heads to the neutral corner with a grin on her face, 1...2...3...4.. Sara is shaking her head as she tries to get up, 5...6.. It is clear she is shaken up as she falls back to a knee when she tries to get up, 7...8... Shaking her head towards her corner, 9...10 Sara is counted out!

Winner Cara Delevingne KO Round 5

After:
A good competitive fight ends with Cara raising her arms into the air, while she was the slight favourite going into this fight, she got a good workout from Sara.

Who has to be helped up to her stool to help her stop the room spinning, those temple shots took her equilibrium away from her, with her coach and the ringside doctor checking she will be OK.

Across the ring Cara is getting hugged by her corner crew, all of them proud of her for bringing home the win and advancing to the quarter finals.

After her gloves are taken off she goes to check on Sara, both fighters shake hands though they look a little tense around each other, Sara's disappointment clear as day on her face but she congratulates Cara to relieve the tension.

Helped out of the ring as the doctor wants to do precautionary tests on her, Sara fist bumps some Portuguese fans that have turned up to support her, she thanks them for being there for her, while she also apologizes for losing the fight.

Back inside the ring, Cara gets some boos as she holds up the Saint Georges cross flag, smiling as she nods at the fans, knowing after brexit England may not be everyone's favourite to win the tournament.

Cara still proudly hold it above her head as she gets her photo taken, smiling as she tells the press "you'll be seeing me holding the cup above my head in a month" well Elsa Hosk might have something to say on that.

For now that is the end of the first round of fights, we've already seen some drama, expect more in a months time when they fight in one night from eight down to a winner.
