Elodie Frege vs. Evangeline Lilly

(Latin Union vs Lookout! Boxing)

Results: Lookout!; Story: Front Street

Contrast couldn't be much greater between these two bantams...on a lot of levels. Hall of Famer Lilly, one of the best bantams in FCBA history, and Frege, who's had some incredible highs and a lot of lows, with the odd huge win surrounded by a lot of losses. Still, the French beauty believes she's up to the task against a woman who lost the bantamweight belts about five minutes ago and beat her once before in five rounds. "She's a Hall of Famer, sure," says Frege, "But, I've beaten Hall of Famers before."

"I've been in with this girl," says Vangie. "She's the real deal as a boxer. Can't sleep on her. And, I won't."

ROUND ONE:

Vangie may have fought Elodie before, but, apparently, she didn't take the proper lessons from from doing so. Lilly uber aggressive off the bell, looking to bring her power to bear. Come into my parlor. Frege gives ground, gets her back on the ropes, and goes into the pocket. And, Lilly attacks said pocket far too aggressively. She's banging away trying to reduce the French beauty while Elodie dips and slips and blocks and counters sharply, nailing the former champ again and again with sharp shot to the head. Evangeline keeps the pressure on the whole way, but to no avail. Elodie's handling it beautifully and punishing her rival in counter, building up a big lead on the cards while preserving energy Lilly's burning. At the bell, it's Frege wide and up 10-9.

ROUND TWO:

Lilly playing things a little smarter now. She's going to box with. Set up at range. Frege willing to play this game. Has shown she can do it well in the past. Result? Even first minute until. BOOM! Right hand, VANGIE and Elodie is HURT! Frege wobbles, grabs on to her rival to avoid going down. Lilly letting the hands go immediately, battering the French beauty into the ropes and having at her. She's working body, head, body, getting a little overly aggressive at times, but not paying for it, as Frege, on rubber legs, is doing just enough to keep the referee at bay as she tries to ride out the round. Vangie determined to end it right here, but, even dazed, the French beauty is too slick. She plays defense to the bell and survives the onslaught. Lilly takes the points wide, though, and evens things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Lilly in command, moving Frege around the ring. Elodie's legs not all the way back, making her an easier target. Vangie working to keep her rival off the ropes, and succeeding. She's positioning well, turning, moving, and always striking, landing solid combinations that force Elodie to back and cover. French beauty countering in spots, but not managing to do much more than that. Final minute sees the Hall of Famer back Frege to the ropes and get off lusty. Elodie works the pocket fairly well, scoring back in counter and slowing down Lilly's offensive. French beauty even lands her best shot of the fight right before the bell. But, when it rings, there's no doubt about the result. It's the Hall of Famer wide, and she moves into the lead for the first time, up 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Lilly aggressive, trying to press the advantage. Frege playing defense, giving ground, quickly in pocket. And, the results are similar to round one. Again, Vangie's pressing too hard trying to finish this thing. Playing right into the French beauty's hands. And, speaking of hands, Elodie using hers beautifully, blocking punches, then filling every resulting opening in Lilly's defenses with sharp leather. It's the exact kind of excellent stuff we've seen from Frege against girls like Britney and Pressly, and, frankly, at times against Vangie herself back in 2016. Late in the round, Lilly slows herself down and begins working body. She's clearly thinking reduction now, and, while that might be a good idea in the long term, it's too little, too late in the fourth. At the bell, Elodie's won it and wide and we're even again, this time at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Again, Vangie backing down the aggression, trying to keep things mid-ring and box with. Again, Frege can play this game and play it well. She's giving as good as she gets against the Hall of Famer. Gets one thinking, after watching Elodie fight on even terms with a woman who just held the belts. What's the problem here? Why hasn't the French beauty burst into the Top Twenty and the title pic...BOOM! Right hand, Lilly and Elodie stumbles back toward the ropes! Vangie steps forward and DROPS HER WITH A VICIOUS COMBINATION! Frege crashes to the canvas, on her back, parallel to the ropes. And, there might be the answer. The chin. Perhaps a bit too fragile? Lilly to a neutral corner to watch and wait. Frege turns to her left side, loops a right arm across the bottom rope, but can get no further. It's OVER! And your winner by KO5 is Evangeline Lilly!

AFTER:

Lilly shaking her head and smiling, "This girl is a pain in the youknowwhat to fight. Very slick. Any mistake you make, she punishes it. Go to the cards with her, and you might not like what happens. That's why I made sure I didn't do that."
