Before:

Last month, Karen Gillan made her debut for Fates after the stable dropped Behati Prinsloo after the model just couldn’t get that win that she needed to get to that next level. Tonight, Gillan looks to prove that Fates made the right choice by going up against Bridget Regan, a three time welterweight champion. Regan, meanwhile, is looking to position herself for another shot at the title, and crushing Fates’ newest member would go a long ways to showing that Regan is still a dominant force in the division.

Karen’s visibly nervous as she talks to the press, having gone without big PPV fights.

“Well, it’s an honor to face Regan, it really is.” Gillan starts out, stuttering a bit into the microphones. “She’s been a top tier fighter for a long time. But I’m ready to take that next step.”

Gillan quickly moves away from the press after her two sentences, leaving them wondering how prepared she is for this big fight.

The veteran Regan is more comfortable talking to the press, discussing the topic more freely.

“Well, Fates sees something in her. He’s gotten Larson right. He’s gotten McNamara right. He got Swift right. And he’s gotten DiDonato – the breakout fighter of 2019 – right. He’s got a good record in picking girls for the stable. That makes Karen dangerous, even if you wouldn’t think that from her record.” Bridget pauses, “But Karen has to go through me, and I don’t intend on losing.” With that, Bridget leaves the press, and all attention turns to the fight to see if Fates’ addition was worthwhile.

The redheaded Gillan is the first girl to make her way to the ring with long strides, the actress wearing a marron sports bra and black trunks with matching gloves, her hair up in a bun for the fight. Regan steps out of the back later and makes her way to the ring, taking off her robe to reveal a plain black sports bra and trunks combo with white gloves for the fight. The two girls touch gloves and the bell rings!

Round 1:

Karen Gillan gets out of her corner quickly and quickly covers the distance between herself and Bridget Regan with her long legs. The redhead fires off a big punch straight for Regan’s head and the veteran fighter merely ducks out of the way and smashes Karen’s face with a left. Gillan swings wildly with a left that Bridget again merely dodges and goes right back to Karen’s head, this time connecting with her mouth. Barros screams at Gillan to keep her cool and the redhead resets. Regan slips forward, feints left, and then swings with her right, but Gillan keeps her guard up, blocks the punch, and absolutely uncorks a rocket right to Regan’s mouth and opens up her upper lip! Karen starts stringing her punches together while staying out of the smaller Regan’s range. Bridget quickly starts getting her distance from Karen, forcing the redhead to only land a couple of punches until the end of the round. But when she goes back to her corner, Karen Gillan takes the round on points, wide.

Round 2:

Karen again gets out of her corner quickly, but this time, Bridget is ready for the redhead’s aggression, dodging the first blow the Scottish girl throws and comes back with a left that tags Karen’s chin. Gillan goes for a counter, but Regan is already out of the lanky actress’ range. Karen takes a step forwards and Bridget jumps forwards and gets Karen in her chin again. Gillan is able to respond with a trio of punches to Regan’s body, but the veteran pops the younger girl in the nose and Gillan’s in full retreat. Bridget Regan chases Karen Gillan around the ring, and while Karen has a three-inch height advantage and is able to cover more ground with each step, Regan is able to keep pace and doesn’t let Karen get full extension on her punches. Regan smartly works on Gillan’s body, pounding her body until the end of the round. Unsurprisingly, Bridget Regan wins the round on points, wide.

Round 3:

The third round starts more slowly than the previous two, with both girls circling to open the action. Karen makes the first move, feinting left and then going for the right. Bridget again dodges, and Regan gets all of Karen’s jaw with a hook and the redhead staggers backwards. Regan quickly pursues Gillan and it only takes two quick body shots to drive Karen into the ropes and Bridget instantly goes to work on the actress’ body. Gillan struggling to cover up as Regan pounds her body and splits the redhead’s gloves on two occasions, driving punishing rights into her head, snapping it backwards. On the second strikes, the Avenger gets enough of a bounce off the ropes to throw herself on Regan and force the ref to break. Gillan keeping her distance out of the break, able to only land a pair of jabs, but Bridget’s constant movement allows her to reposition too quickly for the taller girl and hit her where she isn’t guarding herself. The bell rings and ends the round, a shutout for Regan as Gillan seemingly doesn’t have an answer to Regan’s speed.

Round 4:

Regan now the aggressor out of her corner, quickly starting a stick and shift approach and she gets out ahead early, sticking the Scottish girl twice in her ribs. Gillan shifting around uncomfortably as Regan again lands a body blow, but this time, Karen sticks Bridget back with a straight right punch to the mouth, catching Regan by surprise. The veteran fighter drops backwards to avoid any follow ups – except Karen’s reach is too long and the Avenger catches Regan’s cheek as she’s retreating. Karen throws another blow, but Bridget has her guard up for this one. Karen’s blow bounces off of Bridget’s guard and Regan continues to retreat as the redhead pursues her, feinting left and sticking a solid right to Regan’s nose, knocking her head backwards. Karen goes after Bridget as the dark-haired actress retreats and wards off Gillan’s blows until the bell. Regan had the edge early on, but Gillan came back to win the round on points, close.

Round 5:

The two fighters near the halfway point in the match still going strong, though the two start the round by circling each other rather than one girl going straight after the other. Gillan working her jab early, keeping Regan at a distance by landing a pair of blows to her chin, but the American keeps herself steady and finds a solid counter, tagging the Scottish actress in her chin. Gillan steps back and the two girls start to circle again and the redhead goes back to her jabs. Regan again keeping her guard up, blocking the blows, until Karen charges Bridget to the latter girl’s surprise. Karen feints left hard and comes back with a right hook that gets Bridget right in her jaw and Regan’s wobbly! Bridget practically stumbles to her left, desperately looking to regain her balance. Karen pounces and drives home one, two, three rights punches to Regan’s jaw and down goes Bridget! Karen seemingly turning the screws out of nowhere and she darts to the corner as the ref starts to count over Regan. By five, Bridget picks her head up and gets her arms underneath her. But at seven, she’s not any closer to getting up, and the ref gets to ten and this fight is over. Your winner by KO5 in her first monthly PPV as a member of Fates, Karen Gillan!

After:

Gillan breaks out in a huge smile as she raises her arms and waves to the crowd, beaming on the turnbuckle. After a minute of celebration, the actress goes over to check in on Regan, and the two girls hug before they go their separate ways.

“I was a big nervous,” Karen admits, still wearing a smile on her face, “But once I started to get my jab going and using my reach, I was able to get to her. Hopefully it’s just one of many more fights to come.”

Regan’s not as enthused as Gillan, but the vet gives a brief answer to the press.

“She got the better of me, and she won. Fair’s fair.” With that, Regan leaves the press room.

The one thing that is certain after tonight’s match – Karen Gillan is making a strong case for Fates making the right move in acquiring her from Lookout. But only time will tell if she was the better choice over Prinsloo.
