Evangeline Lilly vs. Sofia Vergara

Interesting bout in that former bantam champ Lilly is stepping up to a catchweight bout with a bigger woman. And, while Sofia hasn't exactly been piling up Ws lately, she still has plenty of power. But, if Vangie's worried about that, well. She's not letting on. "Yeah, she's a bigger girl," says the Canadian with a shrug of the shoulders. "But, it's not like I haven't beaten bigger girls before."

"She is probably the better fighter," Sofia admits. "But, I'm not sure she can hit hard enough to stay in with me. In fact, I'm pretty sure she can NOT."

ROUND ONE:

Sofia proves clairvoyant and right away. Vangie, giving up some reach, begins working forward. Vergara stops her with a jab, then lands a BOOMING follow on right and Lilly is steppin' in fence post holes! Vergara all in immediately! She's winging away with both hands, backing Vangie up before trapping her against the ropes and going to work. Lilly with the body on sale, but Vergara not buying. Sofia knows she's not winning this thing on the cards. She has to get Lilly out of there, and there's no time like the present. Lilly crouching, trying to tie up, clearly just trying to run clock. And, the veteran is doing it. She's hanging in there, rolling with, blocking, taking the stuff that Sofia lands very very well. And, so it is that when the bell rings, Vergara's won it wide, but Vangie's dodged a bullet.

ROUND TWO:

Sofia pressuring, stepping to, backing Vangie up. She's damning any and all torpedoes, and, again, that's probably a solid strategy at this point. Solid. But. Dangerous. BOOM! Vangie with a right hand and SOFIA IS HURT! Vergara wobbles, covers up, and Lilly gets to work, thumping away with both hands, driving the bigger woman backward before trapping her on the cables and working her over to the body. Sofia keeping the hands high despite the body work, but she's crouching, trying to tie up, anything to slow down Evangeline, who's giving her an absolute thumping. Late in the round, Lilly changes her target, moving upstairs, landing some solid shot in the final seconds. When the bell rings, Evangeline has grabbed the points wide to even the fight at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Lilly looking to finish now. She's stepping to, backing Sofia up with hard shot to the head. Vergara clearly still buzzed, can't hold her canvas, getting bullied around the ring by the smaller woman. Vergara only firing back in spots. Mostly, she's taking a thumping as Evangeline gets into a rhythm and takes the older woman to the woodshed. Then, about half way through, BOOM! Right hand, Lilly! Sofia's staggered and then DROPPED with a vicious flurry to the head. Vergara down on her back as Evangeline heads to a neutral corner. Older woman, eyes closed tightly, head lolling back and forth as the referee begins his count. Vergara rolls to her right side at five, tries to push up to all fours, but slumps face first to the canvas and it's OVER! And your winner by KO3 is Evangeline Lilly!

AFTER:

Vangie showing some respect in the post-fight. "Got to admit, she came after me. Don't blame her. She still hits like a truck. She figured she had a puncher's chance, and she went for it. And, there are plenty of girls she might get a result against doing that. But. Not against me."
