MELISSA BENOIST VS KENNEDY MCMANN

Results: Lookout Writing: Archer

Melissa: 31 YO, 5’7 (1.70 m), 12-13-0, 12 KO since 2015, Pretty Little Punchers

Kennedy: 23 YO, 5’8 (1.73 m), 4-0-0, 4 KO since 2019 Front Street Stable

Before: Unbeaten Front Street rookie Kennedy McMann faces a major challenge in taking on the much more experienced Melissa Benoist. However as the meet the press ahead of the fight, the red haired rookie seems eager to take on the blonde.

“I know it will be my hardest fight to date,” Mac admits, “but I have momentum on my side. I am excited to be here in the FCBA and show what I can do against first-rate opponents like Melissa Benoist.”

Melissa smiles charitably: “I appreciate rookie enthusiasm—it hasn’t been that long since I was starting out. I even admit after 4 fights was only 1-3, but that made me keep trying harder.”

“I couldn’t help but notice you are currently under .500,” Mac pointed out.

“That happens,” Melissa said, “you get losing streaks and hopefully you get winning streaks to balance it. Right now I am in need of a win to get back to .500 and, that, my dear Ms. McMann is why I am motivated to win this fight.”

“I would rather not stand here and argue with you about motivation,” said Ma frankly, “what I want is to be in the ring proving I am a winner.”

“I would rather settle this in the ring, too. I will see you there Ms. McMann,” said Melissa with equal frankness.

“I look forward to it,” Kennedy McMann said with a glint in her eye that Melissa returned.

The night of the fight found Kennedy entering in the ring and removing her robe to show reveal a red one piece swimsuit with black gloves and boots (red laces). Her hair is pulled back in a ponytail.

Then it Melissa Benoist’s turn to enter the ring and she removes her robe to reveal a navy blue one piece swimsuit with yellow gloves and boots (red laces).

Melissa and Kennedy meet with the referee at mid ring. Ring instructions go smoothly. Tap of the gloves and the two fighters return to their corners. DING! DING! The bell sounds and the fighters head out…

R1: Kennedy proves to be very quick on her feet and she catches Melissa early with a smashing right to the jaw. Melissa stumbles away with Mac hard on her pumping a barrage of shots at Melissa’s head and body. Melissa hunched up under this barrage finally able to get some counter punches into Mac’s midsection, but then Kennedy smacks home a right uppercut to the chin. Melissa’s knees buckle, but she recovers and manages to block Mac’s follow up head shots. Mac goes to the abs with a barrage of hooks and is backing Melissa slowly up as the bell sounds. Kennedy McMann wins opening round wide.

R2: Kennedy moves to the attack once again as R2 gets started, but Melissa proves much more nimble herself this time. With quick right/left swats to the head, Melissa able to rattle Mac early on and then shifts to a methodical body attack that slashes at the redhead from breast to belly and back again. Mac becomes doubled up and retreating as Melissa pounds away at her until she has Mac on the ropes. Mac now has to go face in gloves and try to survive as Melissa works her torso over and over. Kennedy does appear to be taking a seat on the strands to keep herself up, but she is shuddering as more punches slam into her body. Bell sounds to end Mac’s ordeal, but she is drenched in sweat and breathing hard as she slowly returns to her corner. Melissa Benoist wins the round wide.

R3: Melissa and Mac are both out briskly at the bell. Mac looks to have shaken off the beating she took in the last round as she keeps landing quick lefts and right to the jaw of Melissa. Melissa trying to fight back with straight rights and lefts to Kennedy’s face, but then Mac lands a BIG right hand to the jaw. Melissa’s whole body spins way from that blow and Mac scrambles to stay in front and keep pumping in follow-up punches which slam into Melissa’s breasts and belly. Melissa lashes back with rights and lets that miss, but cause Kennedy to fall back. However Kennedy resumes the attack, peppering Melissa’s body with thumping blows and dodging Melissa’s counters. They are dueling like this until the bell sounds. Kennedy comes away with a round won wide.

R4: Kennedy presses her attack as R4 gets started. Mac now alternating her punches to the head and body, trying to keep Melissa guessing as to her next target. Melissa trying to use jab to counter, but these are not slowing the aggressive redhead down. Melissa then tries to come in and get at Mac’s jaw, but effort gets her a blasting left to the side of the face. Melissa lurches to one side and then has to cover her face with her gloves as Mac goes after her stomach and ribs with pounding hooks. Melissa trying to counter, but it’s not enough as Kennedy closes out the round with a dominating flurry of body shots. Kennedy takes the round wide/

R5: Kennedy looking confident during break and goes right after Melissa as soon as the bell sounds. Mac again trying to use the alternating body and head attacks, but Melissa seems to figured the tactic out. She is ready when Mac strikes with counters that smack her hard to the chin. Mac keeps pressing, but then a walloping right to the jaw staggers the rookie. Melissa then rips left uppercut into Mac’s chin and adds a cracking right to the side of the chin. Kennedys legs suddenly all tangled and Melissa drives a right/left combo into Mac’s chin. Kennedy shudders, tries to step back AND DOWN SHE GOES! Kennedy McMann’s legs give way and she topples onto her right side. Melissa briskly to the neutral corner. Referee moves in. Mac is pushing herself up off the canvas into a sitting position, but she looks very woozy and can’t seem to do any more. She struggles valiantly, but her body refuses to cooperate.

“EIGHT!...NINE!...TEN!...YOU’RE OUT!” proclaims the referee as Kennedy hangs her head unhappily.

THE WINNER MELISSA BENOIST DEFEATS KENNEDY MCMANN KO5!

“The kid’s got power and mobility,” Melissa says to the press after the fight. “but she wasn’t quite as tough as I was tonight. I got her wobbly in the 5th and then finished her off. I call it a good win for me. Mac? Well, she can consider it a learning experience.”

Kennedy McMann understandably distressed at the outcome: “I was beating her and somehow I let it get away. I was so sure I had her beat. I suppose that was my mistake: she wasn’t beaten and was just waiting for me to make a mistake. I’ll go over it with the trainer tomorrow, but let me tell you: it sucks to lose!”

High flying rookie brought crashing to the canvas by a veteran opponent. Not really a surprising story, but it has to be a rude awakening for Kennedy McMann. She did show a lot of good things in this fight, esp. in the 1st, 3rd and 4th rounds, but it wasn’t enough to save her when Melissa Benoist lowered the boom in R5. Good job by Melissa who took a lot of punches during this fight, but came back to win it. It should be interesting to see if Kennedy can bounce back from this defeat and if Melissa can build her won/lost record up beyond .500.
