Emma Samms vs Cheryl Ladd

An exciting beach bout was taking place on a private beach this evening. Two stars of television would be boxing as Emma Samms and Cheryl Ladd would be between the ropes. It is fortunate that a videotape recording was made of the event, though it has only recently become available to the general public

(“Emma and Cheryl could always be counted on to draw fans because they would always counted to fight hard,” recalls celeb boxing authority KO Kapowski. “The fans especially loved them on the beach and this fight was one of their best.”)

The referee for this special bout was Stefanie Powers the star of TV’s Hart To Hart. She wore white short shorts with a black waistband and a white and black top.

(“Stef is another fighter I loved and she went back to the early 60’s in celeb boxing. At this point she would often referee fights and her fans would turn out just to see her in those shorts and striped shirt.” K.O. continues.)

The two fighters then came down from the exclusive beach house and walked to the ring.

First was Emma Samms who wore a light blue 2 piece bikini with black gloves. She wore black boots with light blue laces.

Cheryl Ladd came to the ring next. She wore a copper colored 2 piece bikini with copper gloves. Her boots and laces were also copper.

Round 1:

These two came out fast and jabbed to open this beach bout. A close first round was this. Cheryl used her legs to move up and back with her punches. Emma wanted to use her combinations but Ladd’s legs helped her avoid those big punches. But Samms was able to get through on a couple instances where she hit Ladd with big left hook to her belly. And the other instance was during an exchange, Emma snuck in a left uppercut that hit under Cheryl’s chin. Ladd did answer with a good left straight into Emma’s face. But Samms wound up winning a close first round.

Round 2 & 3:

Ladd came out better in the second round as she would win it widely. She was back to using her legs and popping Emma in her kisser. Samms was frustrated by Ladd’s movements and her sneaking in a few nice punches to her breasts. The second round was Cheryl’s and she took full advantage and tagged Emma’s face and breasts with some nice punches. The third saw Emma adjust to Cheryl’s fight plan. Soon she was bending and going for straights to Ladd’s belly. Cheryl then answered with a couple hard crosses to Samms’ face. Then the two had a firefight which the crowd enjoyed immensely. The two wound up in a clinch and Stefanie had to break them apart. Soon the white shorted redhead has them separated and orders the boxing to continue. Close to the bell, Ladd landed a brisk left jab and right cross combination right to Samms’ face. This helped her win a close round.

Round 4:

After dropping the last two rounds, Emma came out punching at the bell. Ladd was caught flat footed as Emma went into her belly and face with some uppercuts and big left hooks. Cheryl tried to dance and move back or away from Samms but seemed to always find Emma right there. Cheryl then tied Emma up in a clinch and the two were soon together. Again Powers came and broke them up and she called box on. Ladd was finally able to get out of Samms’ power punching range now and use her legs. She spent the rest of the round jabbing and trying to avoid those big punches of Emma. Samms won the round widely.

Round 5:

The fifth round saw Cheryl and Emma come out and Ladd surprise her with a right jab and left hook combination to her face. Samms took it cleanly and was moving back now. Powers watched along with the rest of the crowd as now Cheryl moved up on Emma. Samms tried to hook into Ladd’s gut but found her gloves there to deaden those punches. The first minute passed with Cheryl moving Samms to the near ropes with a right cross to the side of her face. Emma got in a quick right uppercut but Ladd answered with back to back crosses to Samms’ face. Those really struck Emma as her head turned. Ladd went back with a left uppercut and straight right into her belly. Emma was soon backed up to those ropes after those shots. Cheryl moved in as did Stefanie. Ladd went into Samms’ belly with back to back straight punches which drove Samms’ gloves down. Cheryl then hit Emma with a right uppercut and left cross combination. EMMA GOES DOWN! Powers walks over and soon ushers Ladd to a neutral corner. Samms in on her face on the canvas. Cheryl watches as Stefanie begins the count. By the count of 6 Emma turns over clutching her belly. The count reaches 9 and Samms is only on her elbows. 10 comes and Emma is still on the canvas. KO 5 – Cheryl Ladd.

After:

The beach crowd cheers as Cheryl comes out of the neutral corner. She moves around raising her gloves before coming to center of the ring. Stefanie smiles and whispers a few words to her. Then Powers makes the announcement and raises Ladd’s right glove.

Emma has been helped into her corner and is being worked on. She does not see Cheryl as she poses as the winner.

“Yeah, Emma wasn’t one to take defeat gracefully, but she’d lick her wounds and be back for more,” comments K.O. Kapowski.

Powers is surprised as a great many number of pictures are taken. She can remember when this used to be done privately. Stefanie is asked by the photographers for some poses of her won which she does. One of the last pictures taken is another one of Powers raising Ladd’s gloves.

(“That’s a good point, back in the 60’s when Stef was starting out, celeb boxing saw a lot of private fights where pictures and filming was restricted or not allowed at all. I think she still wasn’t used it even years later. Of course, that’s hard on us historians, but we’ve been finding out a lot of pictures and films were secretly taken for private collections. These have only just begun to resurface, which is the case with this one, I believe,” K.O, observes).

Ladd poses more before she goes back to her room at the beach house. Samms has already left to get cleaned up and some more attention.
