Hayley Orrantia versus Emily Bett Rickards

Before: Battle of the backup dancers here as both fighters working in the shadow of title-worthy stablemates meet up in a fight Tractorpull dismisses as “filler.” Hayley finally snapping a 7 fight losing streak at the end of July, still hasn’t won a conventional bout in over a year: “You can’t say I was outclassed in any of those fights, but you can’t say I was the better fighter, either. That streetfight turned a corner, showed I could win with everything on the line. Now I’m going to show blondie how much I learned from it!”

Rickards the favorite despite dropping four of her last five, still seems to be looking for a niche as she battles both jumped-up flys and lightweights. “Maybe so. But I know how to handle this kind of fighter!”

R1: Nothing fancy it's mouth on shoulder slugging midring at a brisk pace. Edge goes to Hayley, she's nudging and sidestepping around Emily while keeping in contact, opening up angles for extra punches inside. Orrantia more varied with her attack, curling in uppercuts from outside Rickards' shoulders, hooks upstairs and down, and a jamming right hand over protective left shoulder. Emily just moving her hands, clubbing torso with determined bursts - gets herself outsmarted and therefore outworked this round.

R2: Shutout Emily as she taps Hayley's chin in close with the right uppercut, then slings the hook in underneath the elbows to back her Texan up. Orrantia's back hits ropes and Rickards gets solid work done, briskly beating in her girl's stomach, shouldering the brunette back and landing a chopping right hand on the eye. Hayley with right hand at her cheek, left across her belly, rolls and blocks at the ropes this round, but can't answer back under pressure.

R3: BLISTERING two way trade, both beauties taking it to one another's body with savage, reefing hooks, shouldering each other back, stepping each other down. Heartless hoisting body shots lick back and forth - gloves bouncing off taut bellies, pounding into shiny sides - it's breathtaking non stop hurting. Down the stretch, Hayley gets to Emily, a little left uppercut through the middle sets up a digging left hook to the liver that has her sagging, not punching. Orrantia's eyes light up - she digs again to the liver, then comes up through the middle with the curling left uppercut - Rickards takes off her face and dreamily stumbles back, sitting into the ropes rather than going down. Hayley pouring on with vicious batting rights and lefts to her girl's aching flanks, Emily grimacing, mincing as she walks back to her corner during the break.

R4: Emilly pounding away the stick, slowing Hayley up, dropping an early right hand followup that puts the brunette wobbly butt in the opening moments. Rickards coming forward now, leaning close to carry a left hook thick to Orrantia's midsection, using the left shoulder butt and clipping the left uppercut as Texan clatters backward. Shoe on the other foot - now it's Hayley staggering in retreat, covering up, trying to shake off the hurt - Emily stepping-with and sapping her opponent with wicked body blows, tough shoulder-bumps and chopping right hands in behind the ear around the guard. Shutout Rickards- both girls lumping up nicely through 4 bruising heats.

R5: Emily still the aggressor, grinning as she pumps her jab to Hayley’s chest, then walks her down. Orrantia recovering well from the pasting—she’s got a little mouse under the left eye, but she’s effective in retreat—walking Rickard’s mouth onto a I’m-still-here jab. Nice stepping rhythm as blonde pursues brunette in a wide counter-clockwise rotation—girls spitting jabs, trading combinations without falling in too close. In the dying seconds of the round, Hayley crouches under a ferocious, clawing cluster of lefts and rights, easing out of range in the crouch, then straightening, weight on front leg. Emily walks in and EATS THE HOOK! Orrantia sneaky cute, lashes the left up off her hip and chin-tipping Rickards: her legs jam up--torso droops forward with arms hanging down loose and BLONDE GIRL DOWN! Emily hanging suspended in mid air for a moment, then crashing onto her face to lie in stupor at Hayley’s feet. Bell sounds to save her at 4, but Orrantia steals a Rickards round with authority!

R6: Gambing overhand right catching Emily behind left ear, unhinging blonde legs, spilling her to ropes early. Cue body attack: Hayley in close - bumping her head into Rickards's raised guard; using extended left chickenwinged elbow to push and prop. Snatching fists just tearing at Emily, mitts bouncing off taut blonde beef PIK! PAK! PEK! then Hayley's shooting uppercuts across the guard, brushing her back. Rickards swooning, muscular legs trembling, Orrantia scrapes left uppercut across blonde guard to brush her upright against ropes, then issues a stamping, straight-punching, palm-down barrage of lefts and rights to those washboard abs! Hayley’s hair across her eyes as she's bending her knees/stamping her fists in against Emily's crippled body. Steady pummelling beat overwhelms EBR...she crumples to a seat - knees up at her chest as ref pulls Orrantia away. Rickards trying and trying to push up off her buns with her back to the ropes, but it's no-go. KO6 in gatling gun fashion for Hayley Orrantia!

After: Hayley putting release rumors on hold as she puts together back-to-back wins for the first time in a LONG while! Orrantia slowly beginning to claw her way out of the hole she dug for herself.
