Connie Sellecca vs Markie Post

Circa 1982

Results: Lookout - Writing: GBS & Archer

Connie: b. 1955, 5’9

Markie: b, 1955, 5’6

Before: “A lot of TV celebrity fights didn’t get televised,” says historian K.O. Kapowski, “so unless you were one of the lucky few who had invites or saw the exclusive tape, you didn’t get to see a lot of these ladies in action. Case in point are Connie and Markie, Markie was smaller, but the veteran here and Connie was a newcomer. Taller, but not so skilled. As you’ll see they didn’t exactly hit off well and I got to say it never did get much better. Made for some great fights I hear. That’s why I am pleased about this video resurfacing so we can see them in action for ourselves. The setting is a prvate gym in Hollywood. The crowd inside the gym was VIP and up. A small but exclusive and powerful in the entertainment world was gathered ringside.”

The referee for tonight’s bout came to and entered the ring.

It was Kate Jackson star of Scarecrow and Mrs. King and Charlie’s Angels.

She is in black slacks and striped referee's shirt.

(“Kate was a no-nonsense referee. She didn’t think she was there to take attention away from the fighters Just make sure it was a fair fight,” says KO).

It was now time for the boxers to come to the ring.

Connie walks to the ring and smiles for her fans and the cameras. She enters the ring and goes to the middle of it where she takes off her robe. Sellecca is wearing a white high cut one piece bikini with black boots and gloves with white laces.

Markie arrives next and she also smiles and shows off for the fans and cameras. Post enters and goes to the middle where she also disrobes. Markie is wearing a white and blue striped bikini with blue boots and gloves with white laces.

This was a crowd pleaser as Post’s cheers rose in number and volume.

"I thought this was a boxing match, not a bikini contest," grumbles Connie.

"You must be new to celeb boxing," snickers Markie.

"What matters is who wins the bout. You won't look so sexy stretched out with your face busted up," snapped Connie.

"You'll be the one with her face busted up--and in your grandmother's swimsuit," retorted Markie.

Kate Jackson was obligated to break it up: "Ladies: wait for the fight to start--then you can punch each other." Her firm attitude silences the bickering and the ring instructions are covered then the fighters go to their corners

Round 1:

The contempt and ill feelings the two boxers had translated into a high punching opening round. Jackson watched as Post and Sellecca threw some big punches aimed for the head of the other boxer. But both were defending their faces and it seemed to be a stalemate. Both derided the other as they boxed. Kate was surprised by this and when a clinch came. She immediately broke it up and told them, “wanna catfight? Go elsewhere. Now box or I am stopping this bout.” Jackson then ordered box on when both nodded to show their agreement. Markie hit first with a crisp right cross to Connie’s face. Selleca went to Post’s gut with a hard left hook. Connie wanted to work Markie’s belly and breasts but found her gloves there and her punches blocked. Post went into Selleca’s face with a left uppercut and right cross combination. The two boxers soon were entangled in each other. Kate came out and separated them. Connie went to throw punches to Markie’s ribs and found some getting through. Post went back to Sellecca’s face with hard crosses. The bell rang and Jackson had to break up the two. The scoring was close but given to Markie.

Round 2:

The next round saw Connie really come out boxing. She went to hook and straight punch Markie’s breasts. Her punches were brisk ones that have Post retreating. Sellecca seem to work on assaulting Markie’s body with her gloves. Some hard hooks cause Post to bend over and groan in pain. Connie goes to dig into that body and swipe Markie’s breasts. A brief firefight came but Connie’s punches seemed to have more steam behind them. The bell rang and again Kate had to come between the boxers. Connie won the round widely.

Round 3:

The third round opened with both boxers throwing hard straights and uppercuts into the face of the other. Kate watched as did the crowd as the two boxers slugged away. After a couple more smoking exchanges, Connie’s punches seemed to be missing Markie’s face. Post’s body had some bruises and splotches from Sellecca’s gloves. Markie went to some long jabs and straights to Connie’s body. The rest of the round seemed to be some short punches and backing away. By the time the round ended, both boxers were showing the effects. The round was ruled a Tractorpull draw.

Round 4:

The fourth round saw a cautious opening by both boxers. The crowd saw more long punches thrown but no combinations followed as they were either missed or moved away from. After the first minute, Connie missed with a sailing straight right that went well past Markie. Post got the message and went to her belly with two hooks. Those put Selleca in full reverse as Post followed. Kate followed and watched as Connie tried to clinch with Markie. Post got her gloves into Selleca’s belly quickly with two more hooks. The air seemed to rush out of Connie with those shots as she was then hit with a nice uppercut from Post. This knocked her to the far ropes. Jackson moved in some as Markie followed. Post dodged a wild haymaker and then hit Connie with another uppercut and right cross. Sellecca’s head swiveled after the uppercut. Markie hit two more straight punches to her belly. SELLECA GOES DOWN! Markie started to stand over her when Kate told her to move it to a neutral corner. Jackson watched and made sure Post was there before she began her count. Sellecca was facing the lights of the arena on her back as Jackson counted to 10. 10 passed her by on the canvas. KO 4 – Markie Post.

After:

Post had been posing when the count of 9 was heard in that neutral corner. She waited until Kate Jackson called her to middle of the ring.

Then Markie came there and had her glove raised by Kate. She made sure the moment was captured on camera and by the crowd.

Connie was in her corner now as she was being revived.

Jackson soon moves aside for Post to pose for the crowd and cameras. Markie enjoys this and kisses her gloves in some poses.

Final shot is Connie scowling over at the celebrating Markie Post.

(“As I said, things never did get much better being Connie and Markie. They had a lot of fights in years to come, I hear Connie did beat Markie, but it was always pretty even between them. I sure hope more of their fights turn up,” concludes K.O. Kapowski.)
