Before: “It’s been a bumpy season,” Hayley Orrantia said. “I started out with 3 losses, but then I’ve bounced back with 2 wins. Winning this one will allow me s good chance of finishing at .500. I can as well as anyone that she has a height advantage on me, but I think I can overcome that and get the win.”

Melissa Benoist smiles ruefully: “It always looks good to some fans when the smaller woman beats a taller woman, but since I am the taller woman in this fight—it won’t look good at all for me to lose—so I am not going to. Oh, and I WAS at .500 this season until I lost last time out so need this win so I can get back to ,500.”

Both fighters looking well motivated to win meet later in the ring on Fight Night. Hayley is in a purple bikini with dark purple gloves and boots (Light purple laces). Hair is in a battle braid. Melissa in white halter top bikini with blue leaf print, white gloves and boots (blue laces) hair in a ponytail.

The ring instructions go smoothly. Both fighters looking eager to go. Tap of the gloves and they are gave in their corners. The bell sounds…

R!: Melissa and Hayley out promptly and circle each other at mid ring as they exchange probing punches to get the fight started. Then Melissa makes her move: three quick hooks into Hayley’s midsection and then two fast one-two left/right combos. Hayley reels back and tries to deploy her jab to hold Melissa off, but Melissa keeps up the pressure with more shots to the body and then a clouting right to the side of the head. Hayley struggling to get her defense going and stay off the ropes. Melissa trying to cut off the ring, but Hayley is able to keep moving and her jabs to face and breasts finally do slow up Melissa. Bell rings and Melissa Benoist wins the first round wide.

R2: Melissa and Hayley again out quickly, but this time it is Hayley able to strike first with a ringing right to Melissa’s chin and follow-up clouting left to the jaw. Melissa punches back with a straight right into Hayley’s forehead creating a big reddening lump. Hayley replies with crunching shot to Melissa’s nose, drawing blood and Melissa’s backpedaling out of range. Melissa follows, striking at Melissa to the stomach and ribs, then surprise strikes at Melissa’s head. Melissa very much on the defensive now, just trying to keep Hayley from landing a knockdown punch, while getting battered to the body. Hayley really working Melissa’s torso to the bell. Hayley Orrantia finds R2 wide.

R3: Melissa comes back strongly in this round. She starts by breaking up Hayley’s attempt to resume her R2 offensive. Barrage of deep digging hooks slam into Hayley midsection until she doubles up with a groan. Then Melissa brings rising rights and lefts up into the upper half of Hayley’s body. Hayley able to protect her face, but her breasts are too easy a target for Melissa to miss and she gives them a thorough pounding. Hayley trying to pull away, but Melissa is hard on her, banging Hayley’s flanks and then bouncing shots off her head. Hayley suddenly counterattacks and pummels Melissa to the breasts and rib cage. Melissa falls back, but comes back punching hard at Hayley’s body. Hayley blocking most of these, but she is kept on the defensive the rest of the way. Round goes to Melissa Benoist wide.

R4: Looks like we have a pattern here: fight momentum seems to swinging back and forth between Melissa Benoist and Hayley Orrantia. Melissa won the last round so it’s not a surprise to see Hayley rapidly attacking Melissa at the outset of the round. Hayley really doing a number on Melissa’s head and face. Rights and lefts are slamming into Melissa’s jaw, chin and directly into her face, Melissa trying to jab back, but her face is getting all puffy and swollen of repeated Hayley blows, Then Hayley shifts gears to attack Melissa to the body pounding those abs, ribs and breasts while Melissa is protecting her head and face. Melissa wilting as Hayley’s punches do more and more damage, just wants to get away, but Hayley not about to let her escape. Melissa managing to get some counters into Hayley’s face, but it’s not enough to do more than slow up Hayley. Melissa under heavy pressure to the bell. Hayley Orrantia has won this one wide.

R5: Melissa banged up quite a bit in the previous round, but the PLP corner people get her fixed up and ready to go, This time it is Melissa trying to get control of the fight, but Hayley seems just as determined to out a stop to the back and forth of this fight so far. In they plunge at each her, trading blows to the jaw, then the head and then the chin. Both put on their heels, but quickly get back at with close in action to the body. Now they are operating at boot top to boot top range as they lift rights and lefts into each other’s already aching bodies. Melissa and Hayley staying even most of the way in this bitter battle of attrition, but then Melissa able to get enough into her punching that she is able to knock Hayley back several steps. It’s not much but the bell sounds and that late flurry gives Melissa Benoist the round close. Both fighters looking stiff and sore as they return to their corners.

R6: No surprise to see Hayley Orrantia coming forward swinging in an effort to get control of the new round. Melissa takes a solid right to the jaw, but she turns to block the left with her shoulder. Then Melissa swings back and drives a straight right shot into Hayley chin. Hayley rocked hard and goes stumbling back. Melissa moves swiftly to follow up with punches smashing into Hayley’s face, swiping her with lefts and rights to the jaw, then quick, but deep hooks to the belly. Hayley jackknifed forward with a gurgling gasp and right into Melissa’s hammering fists to the jaw. Hayley starts toppling backwards and Melissa adds a ripping right uppercut to the chin that lifts Hayley’s right foot off the canvas as she hurtles down. THUD! Hayley Orrantia left starfished on the canvased, her chest heaving, legs moving slightly and eyelids fluttering. Melissa gets to the neutral corner and referee starts counting. Hayley trying to rise but looks up at the referee with a blank look on her face. Then she swoons back to the canvas.

“EIGHT!...NINE!... TEN!...YOU’RE OUT!”

THE WINNER MELISSA BENOIST DEFATS HAYLEY ORRANTIA KO6!

After: “That was interesting,” Melissa comments to press as she watches a groggy Hayley being helped back to her stool. “We had a real rhythm going for a while. I’d win a round and she’d win a round. That couldn’t forever and I was the one who finished it—and her. Feels good to be back at .500. Now I can look forever to whoever I fight next.”

No comments tonight from Hayley Orrantia, but sources at O & E report: “Hayley thinks she should have won this one, but let Melissa steal it from her. Hopefully she brood about too long. She needs to shift focus to whoever next opponent. We’re sure she will. She’smuh too good a fighter to let this setback bother her for long.”

Entertaining bantamweight contest that went back and forth in alternate rounds until Melissa Benoist seized control and knocked out Hayley Orrantia. Good bounce-back win for Melissa following her loss to Priyanka Chopra, but a disappointment for Hayley Orrantia. They both showed good stuff in this bout and fans can look forward to their future trips to the ring.
