Intro:

We kick off the first fight of the League of Mighty Women stables introduction to the FCBA with a cougar bout between two heads of their stable, Girls Friday assistant manager Melanie Sykes meets the Executive Director of the League of Mighty Women Sharon Horgan here tonight in the TD Garden in Boston.

It has been several years since Melanie had her retirement tour in the BBU, so why is she back? Melanie spoke to the FCBA Network reporter Layla Anna-Lee as she got her black gloves on with coach Taryn Terrell's help.

Looking excited as she answers Layla's question about the fight "well I phoned Sharon as I like to get to know these new managers, when me and Sharon talked we mentioned about cougar boxing, one thing lead to another and here we are, me and her about to trade fists" laughing as she doesn't look like someone ready to fight it out with another woman.

Tapping her gloves together to test them out, Melanie says "anyway you know us veteran managers need to teach these new girls the ropes, Sharon is nice but in that ring there are no friends, I'll happily teach her that lesson first hand" throwing a few punches as she begins to shadow box.

Going into the League's locker room, Sharon is getting her hands wrapped as she waves Layla in with a beaming smile, telling the reporter "oh my god I can't believe this night is finally here, time to show the world what we are all made of" Layla smiling back as she nods.

Clenching her fists as she tests the tightness of the wraps, Sharon tells Layla about this fight "yeah it was nice that Melanie called me up to ask if I needed advice, once the talk of cougar boxing come up it was clear we both wanted to test each other out, here we are ready to go at it" grinning as she thumps her right fist into her left hand.

"I think Melanie doesn't think I know how to fight, she does realise I grew up in Ireland right? I make people laugh for a living but I know how to use these" Sharon says as she kisses her fists with a wink to Layla, who wishes her luck before she heads off out the room.

Fighting time, out comes Melanie with Taryn to her right, she waves to the crowd as she stands at the top of the aisle wearing a black sports bra with white trim, short black trunks, barefoot, her hair tied back into a ponytail as she heads down the aisle with a big smile.

Climbing through the ropes into the ring, Melanie taps her abs before she goes through her shadow boxing in her corner, Taryn telling Melanie not to give Sharon a moment to think, Melanie grinning as she replies "don't worry Sharon's arse is mine" making Taryn nod with a big smile.

Now out comes Sharon to a cheer, she has Ali Landry beside her, they fist bump as Sharon has an emerald sports bra, matching short trunks and gloves, barefoot too along with her hair tied into a ponytail, waving to the crowd as she walks down the aisle beaming.

Once in the ring Sharon blows kisses to the crowd, then when she gets to her corner she bounces on her toes banging her gloves together, getting psyched up for the battle ahead as her coach tells her to give the crowd a show.

The fighters come together at the center of the ring, hands on hips as they stare at each other, the crowd chanting more for Sharon as this is her night, Sharon cups her ears as she tells Melanie to listen to that, Mel laughing as she replies "it doesn't matter, all that matters is that you are going down" both bantering back and forth.

The referee tells both to touch gloves, respectfully they bump fists with a wish of good luck to their opponent, then head back to their corners with fists raised as they look up for this, the bell rings to start 10 rounds of 128lbs catchweight action.

Round 1:

As they move together there is a quick fist bump with their left hands to show respect, then the jabs start to fly as the crowd is whistling and cheering both stunning cougars on, the opening thirty seconds in the ring a little more subdued as the fighters try to work each other out.

After they start to land with more frequency, surprisingly to some at ringside; it is Sharon who ups the tempo first, splitting the gloves of Mel with a one-two combo, then she dips under a left cross to bang in two right hooks to the body.

Melanie looks a little surprised herself as she doesn't come with her trademark aggression, more focused on trying to read the Irish lass, who is more then willing to be the one to force the engagements, banging in some beautiful body shots that are either instinctive or shows the quality of training Ali brings to the table.

Past the half way point is when finally Sykes lands her first good combo, stepping back when Horgan tries to close the gap, drilling a double jab into the top of her head, then she lands a right cross that makes Sharon take a step back with a nod to Melanie.

When it looks like Melanie is coming on strong with good headhunting punches that are starting to find a home on the beautiful actress’ face, she misses with a straight as Sharon dips under it to counter with an overhand right to the jaw, then tries to power Melanie back with more body shots that test the impressive abs of the fifty year old.

They clinch with seconds to go, testing each others strength by digging their feet into the canvas to try to push their opponent back, at the bell Melanie gives Sharon a shove with a smirk as boos ring out, Sharon showing she won't back down as she waves Melanie to keep going with her own smile, referee keeps things calm as both cougars return to their corners, Sharon looking impressive for her first ever professional round of boxing.

Round 2:

It seems like Melanie has taken the safety off if you will, she is moving more on her toes as she throws in some more punches in groups, landing some stinging one-two punches into the face of her opponent.

Sharon comes back at her with a jab to the body, then a right cross up top that turns Melanie's head, Sharon looking really up for this judging by her serious expression, not afraid to let her hands go with Sykes when the English lass plants her feet to go at it.

The experience of Sykes though shows itself as she feints with a jab, landing a left cross to the ear of Horgan, then an uppercut to her body as she steps in, hissing at Sharon "come on Sharon.. Thought you were tough" as she drives the Irish lass to the ropes with a little shove of her left shoulder into her.

Keeping Sharon more subdued as she has her kept near the ropes, Melanie is showing some of her skills off that made her a good fighter in her career, switching up quickly to make it hard for her opponent to set her guard up properly.

If Melanie feels comfortable she gets a reason not to be in the dying moments, Sharon slips a jab to land an uppercut that knocks back Melanie to her heels, back comes Sharon with a vengeance as the crowd roars her on to batter her fellow cougar.

The bell rings to stop the action with both women passing by to their corners, Ali telling Sharon to keep relaxed as she could see her tense up, which led to her being pushed back, for Melanie she doesn't look too worried as she speaks to Taryn, telling her Sharon hasn't impressed her so far.

Round 3:

Sharon looks to start off more quickly, forcing the issue more as both women open up, the sound of leather on beautiful faces rings out as the crowd are loving the energy of these women, Melanie even taunting Sharon to bring it as it feels like a bar fight between the two toughest women there testing each other.

Though Melanie seems to have another reason for her taunting, it shows as they enter the second minute, she steps out the way of a wild left cross to time her counter, A RIGHT HOOK CATCHES SHARON ON THE SIDE OF HER HEAD, DOWN GOES SHARON TO ALL FOURS AS MELANIE GRINS!

Leaning against the turnbuckles of the neutral corner, Melanie tells Sharon "come on get up so I can have more fun" waving at Sharon, 1...2..3...4.. Who looks up with a rye smile, more embarrassed then badly hurt it seems, 5...6... She pushes to her haunches and yells "I ain't done yet" making Melanie nod, 7...8.. Sharon is up, fists raised ready for more, the referee wipes her gloves down before allowing them to fight.

As expected Sykes looks to push the action, Sharon showing a wiliness to trade with Melanie as they box around the ring, she has to tighten her guard when she ships a double jab/straight into her now marked up face, Taryn telling Melanie to keep banging her face in till she quits, making Ali scowl across the ring at her fellow coach.

Melanie can't seem to land that big punch again, Sharon in fact looks good in the dying moments with two uppercuts to the body after ducking a right hook, forcing back Mel into a corner just as the bell rings, some more trash talk between them before they walk to their stools.

Nodding to her coach knowing that she slipped up badly there, Sharon reassures Ali that she has this, across the ring Melanie stays standing after nudging her stool aside, playing mind games it seems that she is in much better shape then her opponent.

Round 4:

Banging her gloves together to fire herself up, Sharon steps out the corner looking to take the fight back to Mel, it doesn't start off well as Melanie is landing some stiff jabs through her mitts that send sweat flying off her head.

But as the opening forty seconds passes, Horgan deflects a jab to hammer in a left hook under the ribs of her opponent, an uppercut to the body has Melanie groaning out as Sharon seems to be starting to have a real effect with those punches.

Melanie shows her grit to land in some cross punches along with straights to keep Sharon from overrunning her, a mouse forms under the left eye of the Irish lass from a stiff double jab as Mel moves to Sharon's left side.

Showing her own grit, Sharon keeps in close then uses her left shoulder to bump Melanie back into the ropes, her right hammers three times into the solar plexus of Sykes, who gasps as she winces, the air being knocked out her body before sweat flies from her head off a left hook that turns it to the side.

The final thirty seconds sees Melanie shielding herself as she is under bombardment from Sharon, who is slicing through the guard of the TV presenter more than the Girls Friday crew would like to see, Taryn yelling at her fighter to clinch.

The round ends with Sharon pounding her chest with her right glove as she marches back to her corner, looking fully engrossed in hurting her opponent and fellow manager now, Ali smiles as that's the fire she has wanted to see from the start.

Melanie meanwhile shakes her head as she returns to her corner, standing again as she puts her gloves on her head, trying to open her lungs up more to catch her breath, Eva using ice packs on her body as Taryn yells at her not to be shown up tonight.

Round 5:

Looking cautious as she seems to be still catching her breath from the magnificent body punching of Sharon, Melanie throws out her jab more as a defensive tool then something to score big follow up punches with.

After over forty five seconds of her keeping the rookie Sharon back, Melanie misses with a sweeping left cross as it looks slow, A DIGGING RIGHT INTO HER STOMACH CAUSES HER TO GROAN, BEFORE A RIGHT HOOK THAT LIFTS MELANIE'S RIBS UP HAS HER GOING TO A KNEE CRYING OUT IN AGONY!

The pro League of Mighty Women crowd are standing cheering wildly as Sharon raises her gloves in the air while heading to the neutral corner, 1...2...3... Sharon is now taunting Mel, telling her "you going to stay down there all night?" Waving her up, 4...5...6... Melanie punches the canvas with her right in frustration, that makes her wince as that punch really took it out of her, 7...8... Shaking her head as she looks to Taryn, 9...10 Melanie is counted out!

Winner Sharon Horgan KO Round 5

After:

What a way for the new stable to start it's history off, Sharon leads the League of Mighty Women out on the right foot as she turns to the crowd to celebrate by yelling "drinks are on me tonight" laughing as that seems to get a bigger cheer than when she actually put down her opponent.

Over goes Sharon to Melanie as she sees Taryn kneeling next to the kneeling fighter, she asks with hands on her hips "do you submit to me?" With Melanie ruefully smiling as she nods, putting out her right fist which Sharon accepts the offered fist bump to show they still respect each other.

In fact Sharon shows her class by helping Melanie to her feet, the defeated fighter apologizing with "I'm sorry how I acted, honestly I wanted to test you fully, I went overboard there" with Sharon grinning as she replies "I loved it all, you were amazing!" Making Sykes laugh as she shakes her head.

Returning to her corner to be met with a hug from Ali, the legendary fighter turned coach tells Sharon "you learn quickly, those body punches were fearsome" Sharon replying "I learned from the best, that's why I signed you to the stable, you have always been one of the greatest in this ring" making Ali beam as Sharon seems to have a hell of a way with people.

Across the ring Melanie is smiling in defeat, even if she is wincing when Eva uses ice packs to numb the pain she is in around her body, Melanie joking "why did you let me get into a fight at my age Taryn? You are supposed to be my guardian to save me from myself" winking as Taryn answers "you are a big girl Mel, all the times I have to stop you sparring the talent, I hope this makes you learn" poking Mel in her left side to make her whimper "ouch" to chuckles from Taryn and Eva.

Once both fighters are cleaned up, they come together at the center of the ring, Melanie showing her class to lift up Sharon's left hand, not using her left as she is still sore around that side, the crowd roar as Sharon kicks off the event on the right foot for her stable.

"You know we will probably do this again, I am stubborn after all" Melanie says to Sharon, who replies "oh I expect to have to put you down again someday" there's a little tenseness around the handshake before a big warm smile forms on their faces with a nod, a strange friendship/rivalry forming between two managers of stables, not exactly new in the FCBA but rarely do other managers step in the ring together.

Stepping out the ring so Sharon can have her moment with the crowd, Melanie tells Taryn that she will need to get back into training, never know when the call might come, which makes Terrell roll her eyes with a hearty laugh.

In the ring Sharon is handed a microphone, she takes a moment to enjoy the loud cheers as she looks around at the love for her new stable and herself, wiping a tear away as the moment nearly gets to her.

"Thank you to everyone who come to the venue and to all those people watching from home, I want to say I love you all for your support of this new endeavor, if you asked me a couple of months ago would I be running a boxing stable, I'd call you crazy" Sharon laughs as she waves at her look now.

"Look at me now, I have had my first ever pro boxing match on a card I had a hand in designing, tonight isn't about me though, it is about the young prospects you are going to watch come through that curtain, walk that aisle and beat arse in this ring, this is about the future of the FCBA and you all get to witness it tonight, so keep cheering loud because I know my girls can't wait to impress you all" that gets a loud cheer as Sharon puts the microphone down in the center of the ring, bowing to each side to show her respect to the fans.

Leaving the ring with Ali, tonight is as much about her stables success as she mentioned, this win might be the cherry on top of a quality night if her fighters can show they belong in an FCBA ring.
