Madison Beer vs. Victoria Justice

(Lookout! Boxing vs Kear's Kats)

Results: Lookout!; Story: Front Street

BEFORE:

Match up of brunettes coming off up and down 2020 seasons. Justice continues to show flashes, but, at age 27 and on her fourth stable, she still hasn't broken through. Beer, meanwhile, had an excellent rookie year in 2019, but spun some wheels in her sophomore season. So, both fighters are looking for a hot start to 2021. "This can be a big year for me," says Victoria with a nod. "And, it starts HERE."

"Justice is going to go down in FCBA history as a never-was," says Beer. "I, on the other hand, am going to be a champion."

ROUND ONE:

Victoria likes to fight at range and has shown plenty of ability to do that. Thus, the book says 'pressure her', and that's exactly what Madison decides to do. She's walking through Justice's jab, not even trying to slip it, getting in her grill, and going to work. It's Becky G and Cierra Ramirez all over again for Tori, who can't get the distance she wants and ends up banging on the inside with a girl who's, simply, better on those terms. Beer works body, head, body, scoring well with both hands. Justice responds, but is far less effective. But, her efforts to create space are even less productive. Result is that Madison gets the terms she wants for almost the entire round, and, as a result, she controls it from first second to last. At the bell, it's Beer and wide for the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Tori makes some adjustments. She's moving more, giving some ground, snapping out the jab more frequently, working hard to create space and box Beer. Madison getting caught with the left more, held by it, allowing Justice to follow on with solid right hands. After a fashion, Beer stops trying to walk through it, instead moving her own feet, angling, looking to work past the defenses soundly. When she can, she immediately gets back to what worked in the first, going body, head, body, getting physical, making Justice uncomfortable. Victoria does a pretty good job of slipping away quickly, though, getting back to the distance she wants and to the boxing she wants to do. Result is that when the bell rings, Justice has taken the round, albeit somewhat narrowly, and evened the score at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Beer's getting the geometry down now. She's figured out how to work past Tori's defenses consistently, and she's doing so aggressively, stepping to the older woman and working her over to the body, while not ignoring the head. Justice trying to bang back in there at times, but getting the worst of it in a major way. She's working hard again to keep these exchanges short, but, Madison's finding ways to keep her in the phone booth, leaving Victoria to resort to clinching and trying to get breaks from the referee. Beer's LATHERING her rival's ribs and midsection, and, when Tori crouches to try to protect them, she responds with sharp uppercuts to the head that back the older woman up. It's a great round for Madison, and, when the bell rings, Beer's taken it wide and gone back on top 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Justice doubling and tripling up on the jab now. And, it works. Now, she's able to pick off Beer as Madison tries to work forward. Result is that Tori can follow on with right hands, score, and effectively keep the younger woman off. At least at times. At others, Beer manages to slip inside, and, when she does, she dominates, just like she has in the phone booth the entire fight. Again, Justice works hard to limit Beer's inside work, tying up, shoving off, slipping away as quickly as she can. And, this time, she's able to do that somewhat effectively. When you add it all up, Tori's work on the outside is nearly offset by Madison's inside. Nearly. But, not quite. Which means that, when the bell rings, Justice takes the points narrowly and evens the fight again at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

More of the same. Madison working forward, trying to get inside and crowd the older woman, work her body. Tori not comfortable on those terms, but she IS showing that she's sturdy enough to ship that body work and stay afloat. But, when Beers in her grill, Justice is coming off second best and in a big way. On the other hand, Madison is spending a lot more time than she'd like at punching distance, being kept off by Justice's active jab and kept away by her excellent feet and movement. And, when that's happening, Victoria's, again, piling up points to offset what Madison is able to accomplish on the inside. It's back and forth the entire round, without much in it at all. It's so close, in fact, that, when the bell rings, NOBODY gets the points. It's scored an even round and we are dead even at 48 after five.

ROUND SIX:

Sixth begins the way the fifth ended. Tori boxing, moving, keeping the jab going. Madison looking to work past, get inside, crowd Justice, get physical with her. Victoria having the better of things early. She's getting in a rhythm, keeping Beer at bay. Madison not getting frustrated or sloppy, though. Instead, she keeps working, moving the feet, angling, gets inside and goes body. Justice ties up. Beer punches free and ROCKS TORI WITH A RIGHT HOOK! Justice stumbles back to the ropes and Beer is ALL IN, winging away with both hands. RIGHT HOOK! DOWN GOES JUSTICE! Tori dropped to her right side, parallel to the ropes. Madison to a neutral corner. Ref counting down on the older brunette, but Victoria pulls herself up on the ropes and beats the count. Ref gives her the mandatory. And WAIVES ON BEER! Madison throwing everything but the kitchen sink at her rival, buffeting her along the ropes. Tori covering up, hanging on. Knees wobbled by a straight right that splits the gloves and THE REF STEPS IN! It's OVER! Justice bundled to safety and it's OVER! And your winner by TKO6 is Madison Beer!

AFTER:

Beer clearly pleased to be getting a good start in her junior FCBA year. "That was a big one for me," the gorgeous brunette admits. "Had some tough outings last year. I'm still learning. But, it's coming together, you know? I'm getting better every time out. But, man. I wanted this win. I needed this win. And, I wasn't climbing out of that ring WITHOUT this win."
