DANIELLE CAMPBELL VS MABEL

(HAIR VS HAIR BOUT)

Results: Lookout Writing: Archer

Danielle: 26 YO, 5’3 (1.60m), 26-16-0 26 KO since 2014, Pretty Little Punchers

Mabel: 25 YO, 5’3 (1.60 m), FCBA Debut, Stacey’s Academy

Before: “I have to say Mabel has guts to take me on and risk getting that long mane of hers shaved off,” Danielle Campbell comments in the pre-fight. “And for any of you out there who think this is all some kind of publicity stunts—I’ve got my bag of scissors, shavers and shaving cream all set to part Ms, Mabel from her hair. Oh, and Mabel, I can recommend some excellent wig makers in town so you have to go around with your bare head showing.”

Mabel gives DC a look of contempt. Then the British-Swedish singer says: “I choose this type of match to show that I am unafraid of anyone in the FCBA. I have no intention of losing and, I assure you it will be a very great pleasure to shave your head bald. If it happens to me? I made the stipulation. I will abide by it, My honour would be at stake and you will not find me resisting you. I expect the same from you.”

Danielle eyed Mabel: “Oh, I believe in honor too. I won’t like it, but I won’t resist because I accepted the stipulation. Still, you have challenged the wrong fighter for your debut, Mabel, I am one of the best in the FCBA Flyweight Division. You should have found someone easier to fight.”

“If you knew me better you would know I seldom take the easy way, I picked you because you are good and I know you will fight hard to defend your hair. That will make my victory all the more impressive and the head shaving all the more memorable.” Mabel said with conviction.

“I don’t doubt it will be memorable, but not the way you think it will be,” DC warned.

“I prepared to take that risk,” Mabel said firmly,

“And so am I!” Dani replied with equal firmness.

Long-time followers of the FCBA know that there was a Hair vs Hair Match between Sarah Michelle Gellar and Natalie Portman back on May 27, 2005, though technically the hair shaving stipulation was a private matter between the fighters. This fight, however, is the first officially recognized such bout. Not everyone was on board saying it was a just a “theatrical stunt” on the part of a debiting fighter in need of attention. Even so, the risk of the challenge, has made it the center of much attention coming into the fight.

Danielle comes to the ring with her brunette hair in a long battle braid down her back. She is wearing a pink bikini with white gloves and boots (pink laces). Her hair is piled on top of her head in a top knot.

Mabel is sporting very long blue tinted that she has made into a very long battle braid down her back. She is wearing high waisted black trunks and a dark blue sports bra. She wears dark blue gloves and boots.

Both fighters are trailed by attendants who are carrying large satchels with the shaving equipment for whichever fighter wins. An area back stage has been set up with a barber chair and other accessories for use once the fight is over. The event is expected to be broadcast over CC TV.

But that is in the future. Now the fighters are being briefed by the referee. That done, they go to their respective corners. The bell rings…

R1: Danielle on the attack early. Quick shots to body and head keep rookie Mabel off balance. Then Dani concentrates on a series of hooks to the midsection. Mabel hunching up, but using her jab to smack Dani to the head and make her pull back. Dani then circles Mabel, feinting, trying to draw the rookie into making mistakes. Mabel seems to quickly learn not to fall for the veterans tricks and keeps that jab going whenever Dani draws near. Danielle persistent, scoring to the head and flanks, building up the points as the round draw to a close. DC wins round wide.

R2: Mabel now moving in on Danielle as soon as the new round begins. She brings short, powerful rights and lefts up into Dani’s stomach, ribs and breasts. Dani grunting and grimacing as these punches slam home. She digs in and strikes back at Mabel with short hard ones of her own. Now the two are going at it toe to toe with determined looks on their faces, Stays even most of the way, but Mabel puts on a burst late in the round and Dani Campbell gives ground. It’s many steps back, but it’s enough that, after the bell, the newcomer wins her first FCBA round ever.

R3: Mable and Dani pick up right where they left off. They get in close and start hammering away to the body. Mabel showing good skill at setting her feet so she can get extra power into her blows against the veteran Dani. Then Mabel uses a triple hook deep to the belly and she sends Dani stumbling backwards, bent over and gasping for air. Mabel eagerly springs forward to pour on the follow up leather, but DC recovering quickly clips on the chin to send Mabel stumbling back. The two then plunge in and trade more close in action to the bell. Round close again, but judges think Mabel edged out the win.

R4: The battle in the trenches continued for another round. Danielle and Mabel returned to the toe-to-toe action. This time they were slamming hooks up into the underside of their bra cups before sliding down the leather to attack rib cages and abs. The pounding went on and on. The two were so close their sweaty foreheads were nearly touching and they were looking each other right in the eyes, neither willing to blink. Then, late in the round, DC suddenly stepped back as Mabel was leaning in for another punch. This causes Mable to lurch forward –right into a cracking Danielle Campbell one/two combo to Mable’s chin. Mabel shuddered to a dazed halt and DC pumped fresh hooks into Mabel’s midsection. Mabel gasped for air and fell back as she struggled to steady herself. Dani advanced with her jab, but Mabel’s jab was working now and DC’s advance was halted as punches struck home against her face. The two then traded jabs down to the bell. The judges found it was another very close round, but this time it was Dani Campbell who one a narrow victory

R5: Out they came again and it looked like Danielle Campbell was expecting more close-in action as she moved to towards Mabel. However, as Mabel drew near, she suddenly ducked down and then came up—driving her right hand in under DC’s chin! DOWN WENT DANI CAMPBELL! The lightning strike uppercut lifted DC off her feet and sent her toppling onto her back. Dani hit, bounced and then rolled onto her side. Mabel eagerly hurried to the neutral corner and looked back hopefully. DC was struggling to rise as the referee stood by and counted. She reached her knees and then forced herself to stand—breaking the count just as the referee was saying “NINE!” The referee checked Dani over and then waved Mabel back in.

Mabel look disappointed, but then came strongly towards Danielle, ready to finish the job. She was swinging hard for DC’s head and jaw, but the veteran got her mitts up to block these shots/ Mabel then began to circle Danielle, looking for an opening, but Dani was turning with her and blocking her efforts. Finally, Mabel lunged in and tried to slip an uppercut behind Dani’s protective mitts. Dani blocked the punch with her left and then swung a counter right that caught Mabel on the jaw, Mabel’s head swiveled around and then Dani brought her left uppercut in under the rookie’s chin. Mabel’s head snapped back and she lurched backwards, Now Danielle pumped hooks into Mabel’s belly and these sent her doubled up into the ropes. Now Dani swung away freely at Mabel’s head. DOWN WENT MABEL! The rookie’s knees buckled and she was pitched forward onto her face as Dani coolly stepped aside. DC then went to the neutral corner. Now it was DC’s turn to watch as the referee stood over the fallen Mabel, who was struggling to rise. Mabel tried, but as she reached a kneeling position and tried to push herself upwards, her legs failed her. She ended seated on the canvas, holding her head in her hands as the referee was declaring:

“…NINE!...TEN!...YOU’RE OUT!”

THE WINNER: DANIELLE CAMPBELL DEFEATS MABEL KO5.

After: A silence fell upon the arena shortly after Mabel was helped to her stool to recover and Danielle Campbell was seen to have her gloves removed. It soon appeared that Mabel was declared able to leave the ring on her own power. Then Danielle wearing her robe, walked over and spoke to her defeated opponent.

“Good fight—for a rookie,” Dani said. “I was right to say you have a lot of guts, you went at me up close and personal and I could see in your eyes you have what it takes.”

“Thank you,” Mabel said, “but come on, you need to start your shave. I won’t let anyone think I didn’t have the courage to go through with it.”

“Well, you know, Mable, this was a hair vs hair match, but I don’t recall any of the fine print specifying how much hair would be removed. Knowing you—I’d be facing being cueball bald, but I don’t see how that would make for much of a display on my trophy wall.”

“What do you mean?” Mabel asked in some puzzlement.

“Stand up and turn around,” Danielle ordered.

“There is a place back stage for this,” Mabel was saying.

“Won’t need it,” Danielle said and produced a large pair of shears from the pocket of her rbe. She then reached forward and cut off nearly all Mabel long blue tinted battle braid. “There. This will look perfect on my wall. Thank you again for a most interesting bout.”

“That’s not what I had in mind,” Mabel complained, but the crowd seemed happy that Danielle had found a compromise. “Oh well, maybe next time I will get that top knot.”

“Confidentially—that was what I was hoping for,” Danielle whispered and gave Mabel a hug. “See you some other time when you won’t be such a rookie. Not that that I won’t beat you then, too.”

“Well, don’t be too sure of that!” Mabel said blurted out, then added awkwardly, “but—uh—thanks. I can settle for a trim instead of a shave—this time.”

Danielle laughed and strolled away twirling the long blue braid as she did.

“Welcome to the FCBA, Mabel, I think I’m going to like it here,” Mabel murmured.

Quite a debut for Mabel. The singer showed a lot of zeal and punching power, but she couldn’t quite pull off the upset of Danielle Campbell. Good win for DC who turned back a very determined young challenger. Looks like a very hopeful year ahead for the PLP bantam.
