Ann-Kathrin Brommel vs Sayuki Matsumoto
(Black Eagle Boxing vs Front Street Japan)
(6-7, 6 KO vs 17-5-1, 15 KO)
Results: BBU; Story: Vassago

BEFORE: This might be the fight that finally puts Ann-Kathrin Brommel on the lightweight contenders map! The shapely German model remains buried below .500 career-wise but the Black Eagles manager Gina Wild is convinced the elite talent must be unlocked sooner rather than later even though BBU TV's Denise van Outen points out it's been five years since Brommel knocked out current FCBA phenom Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and if there's one thing that holds her back, it's actually Wild's questionable matchmaking and subpar coaching performance!

On the other hand we have former lighweight champion Sayuki Matsumoto who isn't as active as during her 2012-2013 heyday anymore but maintains a formidable reputation of a durable power-hitter who is simply too much of a challenge for several aspiring contenders. It's unlikely she ever mounts another title-winning campaign but Front Street Japan manager Ayako Hamada is happy how the things stand; Sayuki swiftly pummelled BBU legend Alesha Dixon on last month's PPV and that's always gonna make front page news in the UK celebrity boxing media!

Ann-Kathrin Brommel wears a white bikini set with golden trim & red gloves. Long dark blonde hair tied in a curled ponytail. Sayuki Matsumoto wears a black bikini set with red trim & white gloves. Long black hair loose & straight. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.

Round 1:
Strategy comes to the fore for the Japanese entourage as they want to see how desperate Ann-Kathrin is tonight... and the swarming charge provides the answer very quickly and bulldozes the former champion onto the ropes against the boldest of odds! Ann-Kathrine tears into Sayuki's jugs and lifts them in roller-coaster ride before blasting the laid-back model across the lips. Before Sayuki can land her first punch, she hugs the ropes already and gets picked off on the fly by the uber-committed blonde. Ann-K is here to blow up the roof and keeps Matsumoto pinned on the ropes and just unable to match the gung-ho delivery. Punishing the Asian's rack does the trick and folds the older girl into loud spasms come the final minute before Sayuki manages to clinch the German and earn herself a much-needed respite.

Round 2:
Ayako Hamada realizes there's no point in waiting for Brommel's mistakes and orders a slugging response which brings Sayuki back on par with the aggressive German. Both women dish out significant punishment in the center of the ring where Ann-K holds the line and matches the former champion's production before she switches low to drill the brunette's midsection. Sayuki responds with a similar drive and both women clash heads which finally stalls the high-octane action. Sayuki relies on her power more than mobility which allows the leggy German to showcase her footwork down the stretch but we lack genuine aggression to light up the scoresheets in the final minute as both hellcats seem happy with what they've got so far.

Round 3:
Sayuki gives the German a taste of the jug muggin' medicine early in the third and commands the phone booth action down the stretch as Ann-Kathrin wobbles to her heels and fails to escape the jam. She swings over the top but misjudges the timing & range which allows Sayuki to blast her onto the ropes instead. The Japanese tourist gets more aggressive and lays it into the blonde's body before Brommel has to clinch her but still shakes her off and powers ahead with more body shots that leave the German crippled into spasms come the bell.

Round 4:
Sayuki carries more juice into the blonde's rack but eats a scything cross on the nose as the younger model tries to respond over the top and manages to neuralize the brunette's early attack. She jumps into a head-hunting rally that Sayuki struggles to embrace once she develops a small cut under the left eye. Meanwhile Brommel bangs more head shots and gradually works the older model onto the ropes where she goes in low and catches the groin to force a similar dirty response from the Japanese woman. Both women clash heads as well and things get messy as the referee has to separate them before it gets out of hand wholesale. Ann-Kathrin still loops a solid combo on each Matsumoto temple in the dying seconds and leaves the Japanese entourage fuming in anger during the interval.

Round 5:
The Asian model channels that anger into another jug muggin' assault before blasting Ann-Kathrin on the liver area to drop her into hectic retreat early in the fifth. However the German fails to escape the trigger-happy pounce and gets spiked on the temple to wobble on the ropes where Matsumoto catches her flush in the solar plexus with a vicious double. Another harpoon nails the blonde on the liver area and SHE HAS TO TAKE A KNEE amid a loud shrieking display which silences coach Gina Wild instead! Uh-oh!!! Sayuki shouts something in her native language and struts back to her corner while Ann-Kathrin squeezes the count all the way until eight before climbing back to her feet. Sayuki is more than ready to blow her off and races clear into a jabbing connection before a booming overhand from the seemingly wounded German stops her in the tracks. Ann-K plugs additional leather on the rack as well and survives a late bomb on the temple as Sayuki gets desperate and misfires with the intended put away shot!

Round 6:
Sayuki keeps hassling the German to the body before trying to land that haymaker bomb again but struggles to make her efforts count and gets dragged into a counter-punching jam instead. Ann-Kathrin works her to the body herself and lifts the jugs before another clash of heads slows the action down. Sayuki suddenly realizes the knockdown didn't exactly hurt the fellow model but the favorable scorecards make her press pause yet Brommel doesn't blow her fuse and circles back to gather her thoughts in mid-distance in the final minute.

Round 7:
Matsumoto waits for Brommel to come after her in slugging fashion and when it doesn't happen, she tries to overwhelm the German in mid-range dispute. This leads into a back & forth exchange in the center of the ring that actually makes the blonde more aggressive as she lands more punches into the Asian's face before looping a nasty hook on the right ear. Sayuki wobbles to her heels and gets duly clobbered to the body as Ann-Kathrin forges ahead in close range and traps the former champ on the turnbuckle. She adds more gut shot to cripple Matsumoto into spasms before a clinching stalemate runs out the clock late.

Round 8:
Both models keep plugging each other to the body as fatigue starts to creep in and affect the shear production. It's all about who lands the better punches now according to Denise van Outen in the booth and it's Ann-Kathrin who holds a slight edge as she drags the Asian vixen onto the ropes and leaves visible marks on her pale abs. Sayuki tries to punch the blonde in the boobs but gets neutralized in the corner as Brommel digs an elbow into her chest and works the harpoon blast to drain more energy out of the older model. Matsumoto has to deal with this troublesome stance all on her own and she just can't shake the German off before tailing off into more yelps during the final stretch.

Round 9:
The fatigue factor has really hit Matsumoto hard and she seeks repeated clinching stalemate in the ninth while Brommel works the harpoon assault to stay alive in the exchanges. She eats a couple of shots to the rack but Sayuki's power supply runs on empty and the German outmuscles her to secure a dominant position along the ropes. Sayuki ducks & weaves on her feet but struggles to connect with a meaningful punch while escaping additional jug muggin' heat from the more aggressive foe. Ann-Kathrin still lifts plenty of Japanese jug to earn her grade but Denise van Outen thinks she needs a proper knockdown in the tenth to steal this one on points...

Round 10:
Sayuki threatens to land some aerial bombs but quickly runs out of gas and gets pummelled from inside as Ann-Kathrin still catches her with a somewhat predictable jug muggin' assault. The former champion simply doesn't have the stamina to escape the German's attacks and gets thumped onto the ropes where Brommel goes all in to blast the brunette's rack into a mush. Sayuki slumps into painful spasms and fails to clinch the fellow model into a stalemate before the blonde drills her solar plexus with more venom... Ann-Kathrin bends the brunette sideways and pins her onto the ropes before chopping her in stride and that's too much even for such a durable vixen like Matsumoto... SHE HAS TO TAKE A LATE KNEE herself as the Eagles camp explodes is joy! They get back even on the knockdown count albeit Brommel is too exhausted to finish the ailing Japanese off before the clock runs out! So we go to the scorecards to settle this gruelling contest!

After ten rounds of boxing judges score the bout 94-93, 95-93 and 95-94 all for your winner through unanimous decision... Ann-Kathrin Brommel!!!

AFTER: This was an ultra-close decision but Ann-Kathrin Brommel has pulled off the upset! She crashes down on her knees and bursts into tears as this is just about the biggest win of her career if you consider Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was a genuine tomato can five years ago. Meanwhile Sayuki keeps the stone cold look on her face and prefers to leave the ring without throwing a proper hissy fit. She simply couldn't hang onto her lead on the cards due to severe fatigue issues in the last three rounds but could have still earned a majority draw if she avoided a knockdown in the last round. That's all water under the bridge and yet another bitter pill to swallow for Ayako Hamada and her crew.

It's too early to say how the Black Eagles cash in on Ann-Kathrin's high-water mark but perhaps there is some elite potential to be unlocked after all and Gina Wild was right in her analysis for a change?

Official Result: Ann-Kathrin Brommel def. Sayuki Matsumoto UD10.
