Nicola Cavanis vs Tahnee Atkinson

(Revolution Boxing vs Odds & Ends Fight Studio)

Results: Lookout!; Story: OddManOut

Before: Jeri Ryan: Valmore said this was a mismatch but I think Tess is - as she often is - wrong. This is Nicola’s debut, but from the looks of her, she's the bigger, younger, woman in the ring. She isn't coming off a Best of Seven with Ferguson, like Atkinson is, which has to be to her advantage. Tahnee could be overlooking Cavanis and while I don't predict fights, I could imagine an upset happening here.

Jenny O’Dell: Her management says they are planning to campaign her at lightweight, but just how long that is going to last remains to be seen. If she wins or even just does ok, the other welters may promote her regardless of what her management says.

Ryan: And her she comes in a ribbed black one-piece with matching gloves, hair down around her shoulders. She’s got enough beach training to come out barefoot for the sand matches, at least.

O’Dell: Tahnee sporting a red single-strap bikini, red gloves, hair beach-loose

Ryan: Bit more subdued at midring, compared to what we’ve been seeing, but here come the bell.

R1: Nicola establishing her bona-fides - the legs, the loose, rangy hand placement, the smooth punching, the gliding movement punctuated by sudden, slashing attacks. Tahnee comparatively rigid, dukes up, stepping and turning, not cutting the ring off. Cavanis tarting Atkinson up from outside, circling and placing shots - nice sliding right hand midway through gets around Tahnee's left wrist, rattling Aussie legs as she soaks up the shock. Breezy shutout for Nicola - as they pass, she snaps a backhand slap off cheeky brunette buttocks like she owns them.

Ryan: Well, that was unexpected! I thought Atkinson would start a lot faster...this is NOT the fighter I thought I'd see tonight. But, to be honest, I'm totally surprised by the rookie Cavanis; she showed some skill in the way she steered Atkinson around the ring with her offense...never gave Tahnee a chance to do anything.

O’Dell: She’s showing off her technical skills, clearly doing enough homework to know how things were likely to go if she went headlong into Tahnee’s guns.

R2: Tahnee getting a firm right hand to chin, using her jab to stabilize: Nicola leaning. Aussie's here to fight - backing Cavanis up and scoring points this round. Atkinson closing distance, licking wallop to golden-brown waist and ribs, letting glove linger on flesh for a moment to really sink it in. Nicola fighting off the ropes, gloves at temples, supple and relaxed - but Tahnee stroking flanks and breadbasket to good effect. Down the stretch, Atkinson bodying up on Cavanis, making her take weight before propping her up for more punishment. Nicola outraged at the bullying posture taken by the brunette this round - some shoving and glaring after the bell as blonde won't stand for it.

Ryan: THIS is more like the Tahnee Atkinson I expected. She's showing the rookie how it's done at last. Shouldn't last too many more rounds if Tahnee keeps up this pace.

O’Dell: But she did survive it. There’s plenty of women who wouldn’t have made it out of the round, and she’s not intimidated by it either.

R3: Tahnee channeling Nicola, guiding her to the ropes where Aussie can target her for banging right hands. Atkinson marking Cavanis with stiff, strong stick, then leaning in with short, crunching rights - German's getting chin-checked and long legs aren't liking it. Nicola caught time and again, shook, but managing to clinch for breaks - wily blonde hanging off Tahnee's neck, getting breaks, staggering away to regroup as brunette walks her down. Bruising bell to bell punching from Atkinson, but Cavanis survives it on guile - scored 10-8 without a knockdown, but Aussie shaking her head in frustration nonetheless.

Ryan: Atkinson really put a hurt on Cavanis this round; Nicola not making the necessary adjustments, just walking into the hurt. Atkinson looking frustrated at the end, though. I think she figured she should have done more; but German babes are tough and she's gonna have to keep to her plan and not get reckless.

O’Dell: She’s out to prove something, and a lot of people are going to be interested in her.

R4: Nicola’s feet setting the table - she's able to shear in off angles and put tangy one-twos on Tahnee's chin and Aussie's starting to wobble. End of minute one, Cavanis jabbing tummy, stepping right, suddenly puts the left/right sharp on the chin, ducks low under a sailing Atkinson right and TAHNEE'S DOWN! Atkinson clipped, swings herself to all fours and she's badly shaken - barely beating the count and resting numb at the ropes as ref checks her out. Cavanis moves in, and she's squaring up crouched, hands at her hips and slugging to get Tahnee out of there. Atkinson showing heart: she's hurt, but punching back, even tagging Cavanis hard enough to move the blonde around, if not back her off entirely. Nicola's work rate and determination pay dividends down the stretch - Tahnee tiring badly, breaking down as constant punching to her body has her stiff - she's a helpless beauty in final moments that see the blonde tear away at will. Crowd screaming as Atkinson slumps to seat in the ropes, hands low, head lolling from crisp, deadly Cavanis combinations. Bell sounds - Tahnee out on her feet, but refusing to go down - Nicola sent away shaking her head and mumbling as Atkinson chins it out.

Ryan: Not much to say about that round except that Tahnee took a butt whippin'. The after effects of her Best of Seven with Ferguson have definitely taken a toll on her.

O’Dell: We’ve both been there, and a Best of Seven, especially one you lose, is not just a bounceback sort of thing.

R5: Tahnee looking weary, mouth-breathing: Nicola's relentless body punching taking a terrible toll on Aussie beauty. Cavanis dig-dig-digging down there, really tearing up the plush gut, slugging up into the lungs. Nicola taking jug primarily with a short, biting hook clawed across the cleavage - she's resisting the temptation to just wallow in Tahnee's bra, refusing to give Aussie the chance to time her. Atkinson grimacing, but holding her form together - she's not shutout, but she's getting outworked, out hustled by quicker, more athletic beauty.

O’Dell: This is starting to turn into a rout. Cavanis clearly intended to win through attrition, and given what Atkinson went through last year, that was clearly a good call.

Ryan: If I didn't know better, I'd think Nicola's jealous of Tahnee's ta-tas the way she paid so much attention to them that round. Been there, done that...and had it done to me, too. It's not easy to come back after that kind of pancaking.

R6: Nicola's feet continue setting the table, carrying her nimbly in and out - she's getting off first, dressing Tahnee up. Jabs and straight right hands to the body have Atkinson flustered when Cavanis unleashes a gorgeous flurry of lefts and rights, cudgeling ears and jaw, sending Aussie reeling to ropes. Nicola hopping in, committing to lead and POUNDING away to ribs, getting in there right/left, then stepping out, jabbing, constantly keeping something on Tahnee. Atkinson still in trouble: straight punches are pounding in between her guard, body shots working underneath it. Cavanis piling up points, getting delicious jiggle out of Tahnee’s bronzed bum with ripping hooks, but down the stretch - Atkinson with a crashing right off the ropes catches Cavanis pulling straight back. Smashing blow on the left eye - Nicola staggering away to regroup, stumbling and WELCOME BACK BOSSIE AUSSIE! Hammer blows adding up on Nicola’s sturdy jaw, pounding that left eye shut: legs aren't liking it. Cavanis getting hit, knees buckling, staggered back butt-in-ropes hands extending on reflex. Atkinson loading up right hands, stepping Nicola to ropes like an old pro.

Ryan: What a comeback by the Thunder Goddess! Nicola had her on the ropes ready to go and she let her off the hook! I'd say it's anybody's fight from this point, but you gotta like Tahnee's chances based on her experience alone.

O’Dell: Atkinson’s single-shot power has saved more than once, and this is just one more to add to the pile.

R7: Tahnee's finally done it: Nicola's flat footed, trudging at last, but still aggressive as she marches into Aussie's defences. Atkinson right hand at temple, pumping jabs, keeping Cavanis back - blonde rejected as she tries to get into combo-punching range by the tart sting of Tahnee's stick. Minute mark - Nicola once again bogged down on Atkinson's thudding jab – Aussie leans in to buzz chin a clipping right cross and CAVANIS IS HURT! Tahnee shuffling to her right, reloading - Nicola tilted forward, dukes at her temples, paralyzed with a sweeping sidearm right that crashes into the left side of her jaw, buckling blonde legs. Another clobbering right, ANOTHER! Atkinson snarling, swinging away as Cavanis wilts and GOES DOWN! Nicola rolling to her back, eyelashes fluttering, limbs all limp and quivering - she can't get off her back – KO7 in spectacular fashion, Tahnee Atkinson!

Ryan: Well, Tahnee won (as Tess predicted) but it sure didn't look like a "mismatch" from where I sat. I liked what I saw from Cavanis; the kid showed spunk and more than a little promise. Tahnee's lucky to have escaped though.

O’Dell: Nothing to be ashamed of here. Every big girl with ambitions is going to be looking to either take her down a peg or boost themselves at her expense, this kid is looking at a very busy year.

Ryan: Let’s go see what Lindsay has for us…Oh, dear

Lohan: Not much to add here. Tahnee’s straddled Nicola and is giving her a nice no muss, no fuss breast smother. When people are talking like they’ve been talking about Tahnee, you really can’t afford to pass up a chance to show how dominant you are, especially after a scare like this one.
